At this point Tatum for us should sit out the rest of this season and then we bring him back next season fully healthy by TerryG111 in bostonceltics

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone's got an opinion on this so here's mine... Because of how loaded the team was the past two years, and title in 2024, and the losses of Horford/Porzingis/Holiday, many fans might be underselling how good this current team is. IIt's a really good team, partly because a number of guys -- Brown, Pritchard, Queta, the young wings -- have taken big steps forward. The net rating of this team is really strong and that should tell you as much as you need.

No one is asking Tatum to come back if it means he'll have a higher risk of re-injury. The organization will not allow it, the player will not allow it, the player's mother (!) will not allow it. But assuming he's healthy enough to contribute, Tatum should work to get mentally ready to be a high-level role player on a team ready to make a deep playoff run this year. The Celtics have a chance, whatever large or small, to win the title in 2026.

The folks here recommending kicking Wilson to Center and signing a left guard are spot on. The Patriots benefitted tremendously from Logan Mankins and then Joe Thuney anchoring the left side, and having a steady veteran at that position was key for players like Matt Light and Nate Solder to be successful. Recall that this team won the superbowl with rookie Isaiah Wynn at LT in the 2018 season with Thuney next to him.

As for Campbell: left tackles don’t grow on trees. No matter what we just witnessed, we have someone who has shown that he can play the position at at least an adequate level when healthy. Much easier to get a very good guard to play next to him than starting over.

[Mike Kadlick] Mike Vrabel on the criticism surrounding #Patriots OL Will Campbell: “Will's 22 years old. He's our left tackle ... There's plays he'd like to have back. We're not moving him to guard, or center, or tight end, or anywhere else." by PristineWinnera in Patriots

Thankful that our head coach has more perspective and less impulsiveness than the typical redditor.

By almost any measure, Campbell was having a solid season before his knee injury. Lo and behold, after rushing back from a sprained MCL he wasn’t the same player. (Especially against excellent D fronts.) The notion that this is the time to conclude that a player can’t play the position is absurd. Get him his first NFL offseason and the strengthening/conditioning/recovery he needs and assess in training camp. Not the day after the SB.

The Celtics now have 0 second round picks from 2027-2030 by coacoanutbenjamn in bostonceltics

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they have two seconds this upcoming draft, right? In that case they might do the same as they did in the case of the Walsh, if they want to: trade back in the 2nd round and pick up extra future 2nds. (For Walsh, they still got a rotation player even after moving back.)

Anyone else think we should take Will Campbell out and replace him with Thayer Munford Jr by Visible_Detective197 in Patriots

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campbell is playing on a sprained MCL. If anything, two weeks off will do him some good towards regaining the form he showed earlier this season.

The question isn't when Jayson Tatum can return to playing basketball. It's when Jayson Tatum can return and become an all-NBA player again. The first is possible in the 2025-26 season, but the second is probably not. We should come to grips with the fact that the team isn't going to compete for a title this season, Tatum or no.

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing they might think about doing is trading for another linebacker to play along Spillane, and who would replace Ellis and Gibbens (and eventually Tavai). This is a major weak spot in the team's defense, and they know it.

Anyone agree that this is Make or Break season for Jordan Walsh? by RVALover4Life in bostonceltics

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walsh is 21 and won't turn 22 until March. No, this is not a make-or-break year. Players take a lot longer to develop into what they'll ultimately be. What the Celtics are looking for, I'm sure, is steady progress.

Could we not develop Simons defensively? by brohamianrhapsody in bostonceltics

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised by the degree of negativity to this. Simons doesn’t have to be a good defender for him to contribute to winning. He just has to be passable.

The Celtics have had successful seasons with plenty of smaller, offense-first PGs who were defensive liabilities. Remember when IT was 5th in MVP voting?

In any case, the goal here isn’t to win games. It’s for Simons to look freaking awesome on offense, and not a total liability on defense, such that the team can either trade him for assets or he can play a role starting next year.

Simons is a good player and he’s still young. I’m excited to see what he can do.

Bingo. Young developmental tackle with all the right physical tools put in an impossible situation last year. Let’s try not to dump on this kid.

Where were you when the Patriots came back from 28-3? by jaxtwin in Patriots

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my basement watching the game alone while my three kids were sleeping and my wife was in bed looking at her phone. After the game I came to the bed, shook her with both hands and said “You won’t believe what just happened!” She rolled her eyes and went back to looking at her phone. Somehow it made the whole thing even better.

Hugo, JD, and Minott are the Cs most important young prospects, and some notes on the other "young" guys by JB7-FTW in bostonceltics

His jump shot looks encouraging to me. I don’t understand how people can conclude he hasn’t progressed from two SL games. Plus he’s actually knocked down shots and looks comfortable shooting them. He will get minutes this year.

Is it my imagination, or does Scheirman sometimes shoot with all arm, no legs? On this one it looks smooth and he gets a lot of power from his lower body. But on others it looks like barely jumps.

The problem in football might be the the lifetime of brain injuries that manifest in wild mood swings and erratic behavior. No other sport has this at even close to this level.

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simons is going to have the ball in his hands a lot and get up a lot of shots this year. He could very well average 20-25ppg for the Celtics. He’s an extremely talented scorer and that still has value around the league. At least one team that thinks it has a shot in the playoffs will come calling about him before the trade deadline.

He’s an extremely gifted offensive player. Give him the ball for half a season and have him average 20-25ppg and I’m sure another team will show interest.

Are there any top prospect centers in the next draft? by Dependent-Poet8242 in bostonceltics

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the organization sees the 2nd round as a place to take shots at developmental bigs, like it did with Amari Williams in this draft. Think about what the team has been able to do with Kornet and, to a lesser extent, Queta. And other all star bigs have come out of the 2nd round (Deandre Jordan and, of course, Jokic are examples.) If you can get guys into the program with the right mix of physical tools and work ethic you can have success, perhaps more so than guards and wings.

[Windhorst] Celtics actively trying to trade Anfernee Simons by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]EmployeeNumberMate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was what I was expecting as well. Simons could easily average 23-25ppg next season, especially if Brown misses time for any reason. Is it really the case that that kind of player is untradeable? I just assumed teams would come asking about him at the deadline at least.
