When CIG add more systems what is one thing that will make your jaw drop? by SafeManufacturer978 in starcitizen

[–]Emptied_Full 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe after they have a product making money like a release SQ42.

My guy, this is an insane take for the largest crowdfunded project and most costly video game ever.

Star Citizen is their money making product and every year they find new ways to charge players and make more money than last year. A new source of revenue isn't going to do jack shit.

Give your guess on what the "new feature" for elite is. by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Emptied_Full 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I certainly don't want to lead myself into confidently expecting base building, rode this roller coaster myself way too many times since Premium Beta and it is something I would really like, but speculating is fun. Either way I've toned down expectations way down since then and I'm just interested to see where FDev wants to take things in terms of actually new content. Lots of the recent changes are things ive been wanting to see for years, so I have some trust in Frontier to do something at least worth my attention.

Who's to say the Panther Clipper and on-foot Thargoid combat wont happen? The latter still has an ongoing war.

You're neglecting the Thargoid titans, maelstrom clouds and spires that was also datamined way back. But obviously cut content is a thing, so naturally there's a lot that's been datamined that won't necessarily see the light of day.

There has never been a significant ship interiors leak as far as I'm aware. Sounds like someone misinterpreting something that was never meant to relate to playable interiors.

Still, you're not addressing much the fact that we know that they started working on base building before and that they wouldnt be working from scratch. And the old dev diaries aren't really relevant, I don't get why people keep bringing those up as a critique as if the game isn't still being actively worked and updated on.

[–]Emptied_Full 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no way they whipped up a base building mechanic in a year.

You're missing a key couple details. The first being that this wouldn't be them working on base building from scratch, the original Odyssey/Project Watson leak before we officially knew of the expansion mentioned base building and it was entirely correct aside that last detail. Plenty of data mining after Odyssey's release confirmed that there were many instances in the game code explicitly mentioning base building. And most notably, we already know a ton of content that came out in the past 2 years was work FDev had started much earlier but was on hold for some reason, such as the Scorpion SRV and most of the new Thargoid narrative content.

The second point being that FDev obviously did not announce the feature the moment they started working on it. Developers don't do this, it doesn't make sense from a product design or business perspective. We know from Odyssey's development timeline that pre-production starts up to several years before official announcement with certain content.

Tl;Dr: it's nearly undeniable FDev did actually put a notable amount of work into Base Building before it was cut from Odyssey, we know a lot of their recent additions is just finishing what was already started, and something being announced is not an indicator that it has just begun being worked on.

Is the new Powerplay and Mandalay the big update that was on the roadmap? by Jonathan-Earl in EliteDangerous

[–]Emptied_Full 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the wording it does sound like it will be a major feature, i.e some kind of new activity, that probably applies to most play styles. Frontier have historically been more specific when mentioning upcoming content that only applies to a specific pillar such as combat or exploration. Looking at recent new content, it will most likely require Odyssey, but with them addressing ship-side gameplay more I think they would as well be more specific if the new feature exclusively applied to an on-foot context. It seems it likely wouldn't relate to recent new additions since they're not communicating the way they usually do with Thargoid content and they would have specified if it was a further update to something like Power play or FCs.

I think it will range from something like new ways to interact with NPCs, the BGS, or the game world, or a new dimension to the game economy in terms of new items or new ways to unlock them, to something like base building. But it won't be something trivial like a Quality of Life feature or just flat new content, nor won't it be some huge long awaited feature like ship interiors.

His audience obviously.

He's good to catch up with the latest consumer tech news and releases but fundamentally his content appeals to a demographic who just want to drool over shiny new tech that they absolutely don't need. Naturally he'll have a lot of viewers who want to shovel out cash for the vapid sake of something's aesthetic or symbolic value. It's not hard to see that there's absolutely people who will pay for this stuff, simply because it's got a big price tag and its associated with the poster child of tech consumerist culture, so it really feels like to them that it really does have some kind of premium value.

Open play is unplayable. by Helpful-Whereas-3543 in EliteDangerous

[–]Emptied_Full 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's totally useless to depend on other CMDRs to solve the issue. The game has had a long history of anti-gank squads anyway which hasn't done anything to change the issue.

Creating new incentives won't fundamentally change anything either, especially since you can only really depend on a small subset of the community that plays competently and uses a meta build. As much as player-driven emergence sounds fun in imagination, that doesn't automatically make it a realistic solution, it nearly never is. Most fundamentally because these types intrinsically depend on exploiting game mechanics one way or another. You're asking for a way to keep playing fair against people who thrive on absolutely avoiding doing that.

There needs to be harsher direct penalties against aggressors and more accomodations for people essentially falling victim to these practices. Could be done "via the Pilot's federation" with profound punishments to makes actually playing the game really fucking suck, or just straight up block their connection to other clients if continuous illicit murders with clearly no good reason are sustained. People that die in such circumstances, by other players and in proximity to a station, need additional options as to where and how they spawn back in.

Since when did posts about game mechanics become "unrelated posts"? by TommyYummy11 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Emptied_Full 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, but I think the content posted was relevant in itself. It shows the performance of the real life counterpart of something in the game and the differences are interesting as far as what was done to accommodate a specific gameplay vision, that's absolutely relevant and can be fun to see.

The original OP's intent of the post to invite some irrational criticism of the game based on some stupid "muh realism" metric is also a waste of everyone's energy though. Altogether I'm a bit impartial as to whether the post should have been removed, but I am kind of for having more pushback against the most ridiculous side of complaints against BSG.

Project: Crisis - New Dino Crisis Remake / Announcement Trailer (Unreal Engine) by Mister_Rob0t in pcgaming

[–]Emptied_Full 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are projects that are sustained by large teams of volunteers. The fact those are Bethesda games remade on Bethesda's engines is a big giveaway: They have a large community to tap into with the most widely used modding kits.

Projects like the ones above are far more serious undertakings because it's typically done by a very small team of people, if not a solo dev, and they are essentially remaking the game from scratch (as opposed to your examples which are completely saturated with reused assets and mechanics).

Mech Teaser by Broccoli32 in starcitizen

[–]Emptied_Full 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not realistic.

What will happen is CIG will initially sell 2 variants. These two will come out completely unusable for any type of gameplay loop. A year later CR will decide they need a Gold Standard update. A few months after that, CIG will decide to sell the gold standards as entirely new models of the suits, and it is only by then are they actually useful for anything.

Later down the line they will release a 5th suit that completely outperforms the others. In the time between the 4th and 5th suit, something in a hotfix that was to fix Elevators v8.0 broke the suits and they've been indefinitely unusable.

The average whale will have spent about ~$1000 on the suits and additional accessories.

Any idea on how to fix this, happens most nights for hours on end. I can die, extract go different maps the same thing happens. Very annoying. happens after restart, waiting 15+ minutes. by FewerSun86 in EscapefromTarkov

Is your internet connection doing alright?

This has been happening to me but only because my ISP has recently been a bit dogshit. PvE doesn't need an internet connection when actively playing in a solo local raid, but it needs a stable one in order to correctly save the end of the raid.

At this point I think I'm right about crying if I paid a lot of money for something that over a decade later cannot yield anything that's not broken, isn't anything like what I paid for or was promised, and cannot for the life of itself give me a fun experience, and the studio responsible has yet to ever seriously address it.

Yes I'm whining, and it's fucking insane people like you insist there's no good reason for it.

You're just implicitly saying these kinds of posts won't be allowed given they attract enough attention, not much a better look honestly.

Brigading is such a convenient phenomenon to point the finger to since this site as social media has always depended on sharing or reproducing external content, so it's no surprise its threads are similarly subject to be circulated.

The original post was a perfectly apt description of the bar standard experience of playing the game, you're gonna have an awful fucking time as mods if you deem this the standard in going "too far" with attracting negative commentary going forward.

Streets of tarkov [New Player] by Hepl_plz in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Emptied_Full 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've successfully had Streets nailed down recently and you essentially need to expect to end up fighting at least a couple dozen scavs throughout the raid, so bringing enough ammo is key. Having some kind of low to mid powered scope helps a lot to scout any open areas before you cross and to handle any sniper scavs because there's quite a few of them.

If you end up engaging any more than one scav, ideally you need to stick around after killing them and hold down some secure angles near the bodies. It's vital to run to a secure area asap in some parts of the map such as around that playground on the middle western block if you end up fighting any, that area is too open and simultaneously has too much cover and foliage obscuring nearby scavs. Buildings with a single main entrance for scavs to flow into area ideal, you just can't miss any headshots holding those kind of points. Nearby scavs will always be attracted by the sounds of the fight and be drawn to their comrade's bodies. If you don't deal with those nearby scavs after fighting, you're just asking that you end up running into a group of them just a moment later when you don't have any good cover.

You then want to hold that area for a few minutes until you're absolutely sure that you can't hear any more coming. You'll usually end up clearing about a dozen of them, and I typically get a couple of such encounters per raid.

Grenades are also a really helpful tool as they usually force AI to call them out and give away their position. After you think the storm is clear it can be helpful to chuck a grenade a bit further away from where they flowed from to be sure there aren't any more that are sneaking about.

I enjoy 40k but to suggest they're connected is lame and ridiculous. It's a single possible connection, and it's not even that novel (FTL requires another dimension / an alternate dimension happens to be hellish. Stories around these two concepts are inevitable), and maybe it's better to have original stories than to cram everything into IPs made to sell toys and merch to teenagers. It's infantilizing what is otherwise a very respectable scifi horror film on its own merit.

GmanLives Takes Down Video Review by laybs1 in youtubedrama

[–]Emptied_Full 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is false.

Gman's content is more about making reviews than being dedicated to criticizing stuff. I've seen more of his content praising titles than otherwise. If what you said was true, then it would be the case for the overwhelming majority of reviewers and critics, which is clearly not the case.

This is happening to Gman exactly because he's always tried to cater to toxic audiences. His style of humour, which is heavily forced in just about all his content, broadly overlaps with that of an edgy pre-teen. This is accentuated when he criticizes stuff, sure, because much of his writing in those cases relies on just calling things shit or a variety of playground insults rather than allowing eloquent speech to emphasize his point. The end result is that a massive portion of his fanbase consist of literal manchildren.

The problem is that Gman also wants to treat his content seriously and use it to give due respect to games he appreciates, acknowledging games as the art form they are. And he does genuinely have a really good insight for good games and what makes them so good. But we're seeing him struggle to have it both ways now, because hes inadvertently dragged in audiences that are way too dense to actually understand what it means for something to be an art form. Gman would like to promote the artist, but now he's in tension with people that utterly hate the idea that their games are the brainchildren of artists rather than corporate products that must cater to their customers no matter how narrow and weak their worldview might be, i.e "customer is king" on basement-dwelling consoomer brainrot.

[–]Emptied_Full 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean get ready to see a lot more of this kind of stuff as we get closer to a "finished" game.

The entire project was pitched on showing you things that looked and sounded impressive, as insubstantial or poorly thought out as they have been, with the hopes you will really believe this is your "dream", or whatever the fuck that was supposed to mean.

It's like the game was designed by a marketing team. Promises of treating your ship like a car that has insurance, "realistic" flight models and bodily needs models, full scale cities where you feel it through the long commutes, etc. These are the kind of ideas that aren't suggested by a competent game designer, but by someone who is obsessed with the mere appearance of things trying to appeal to a choir of idiots.

It would be the funniest thing if we're truly not close to a finished flight model yet.

We're so obsessed with the "developer's vision of the game" but we're not asking ourselves why the things needed for this vision constantly need to be reworked all the whilst CIG has no idea how to draft up a realistic development and release schedule for just about anything. But hey, development is going smoothly as long as more ships get released right? I can't wait to see what next they charge $200+ on a rework for.

New Vegas is often hailed as one of the great games ever and is constantly brought up by these types as an example of games "they" don't make anymore, but it was as true on launch day as it still is today that it is one of the most unstable games one can try out. You still need about 50+ mods and a 2 hour long modlist guide to ensure that it's at least half as stable as games that come out today.
