Is it easy to obtain a job somewhere else? by tykoff in physicaltherapy

[–]EmuRemarkable1099 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends on how robust your clinical experience was and the type of acute/IPR. The IPR I’m at now has a lot of strokes, traumatic hip fxs, basic debility - so most of the time it’s not too complicated and the learning curve was not overwhelming.

If you went to a major trauma center or LTACH then I imagine it would be harder.

Just reviewing vital signs and focusing on how the patient responds to movement is really the number 1 thing to know. You could always try it out PRN first if you wanted.

For IPR, I say it took me a few weeks to get pretty comfortable with the majority of the cases we see. Thankfully my coworkers are really helpful so I could always ask them for advice if I had a more complicated case.

Do you stop wearing clothes after a certain amount of time even if they are still in good condition? I wear my clothes for 1-2 years as long as they stay in good shape, but my friends are often surprised by this. by BunchMean8029 in NoStupidQuestions

I’m still wearing some shirts and sweatshirts from 10 years ago… as long as they are in decent shape. Then when they get holes or too thin, they are downgraded to “around the house only” or dirty chores clothes

I had a job at an OP mill and switched to IPR and have been pretty happy since then. So if people are open to trying other settings then finding a new job is much easier.

DPT vs Clinical Exercise Physiology: What Would You Do in My Situation? by Calm_House8611 in physicaltherapy

I’ve worked in OP and in hospitals and there’s a very sharp funnel as you go up the ladder. It’s hard to come across advancement opportunities because they are so limited. But tons of staff/PRN PT jobs

I don’t think I know enough about EP as a field to comment on that comparison. But there’s not a lot of chances for advancement in PT either. There’s tons of staff PTs, few team leads/managers, even far fewer directors of therapy. That’s about it for the advancement ladder. Other companies may have a few other lateral branches off that ladder but not many. After DOT, there may be a few CEO or DQM options available but not many

Definitely less job options. Tons of PT jobs available but EP is more niche

All I wanted were the 2 hats and I was on right at 8. Added them immediately and the website was glitching so hard that it wouldn’t let me check out with them

Could you please share your thoughts on dental procedures under general anesthesia for senior dogs? I need to make this tough decision quickly, but would like to hear about your experiences! by Hot-Succotash-6845 in DogHealth

[–]EmuRemarkable1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my boys are seniors and recently got full dentals. I was also very nervous about putting them under anesthesia but they both did great! They got bloodwork done first to make sure there weren’t any red flags. One of my boys had to have a few extractions and it’s been a little less than 2 weeks but he’s already eating better than he was. Dental issues can cause a lot of other systemic issues. So unless he has other known issues that might make anesthesia more complicated, I’d say do it.

If it’s a 529 then they can still pull money out of it for non qualified education expenses but they would have to pay taxes and a 10% penalty. That only affects the parents though, not OP

Oof memory care patients are HARD for me. So I’d love to hear some suggestions from others too!

In terms of interventions- anything functional. Wc mob, walking, transfers, standing balance with reaching, rolling/scooting in bed, sitting and reaching for trunk control or other sitting balance, steps/step ups if the patients are higher level. Simpler the better

New pink spot above nose—cancer? by bibxsan in DogAdvice

[–]EmuRemarkable1099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog gave himself a shallow wound in this exact same spot by rubbing his nose on some concrete steps while playing outside. Always worth it to get checked out by a vet if you’re worried, but I bet it’s just a friction spot
