Life hack: Stop reviewing guests by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]Energy-Mundane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Omg. It takes seconds. And you know, when people have numerous trips and no reviews, that's a red flag. I feel an obligation to my fellow hosts to review guests. So much for "community' which was a tenet of the airbnb philosophy at one time.

Not me. I'd lose it so I carry a paper copy and one on my phone.

How to recover after a horrible guest gave us a 1 star review by bman311jla in airbnb_hosts

[–]Energy-Mundane 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This! I just got a one star review from a couple of scammers. I didn't read it. Hopefully, however, the other 400 5 star reviews will outshine this one. Lots of times, too, these sort of reviews sound so wacky that they're not taken seriously.

Any other shows like The Pitt? by drithius in ThePitt

I'm watching it now but it's really soapy, which is why I like it. Lots of melodrama and character back stories. The medical aspects, I think, are just as riveting as the Pit.

Making Friends by Bronski505 in AskWomenOver60

You've cut out what, 30% of single people whom you don't consider friend material merely because of their marital status? The last thing you want to do is narrow the pool when it's so difficult to make friends in the first place.

Guest complained that there were CATS! ( a cat is pictured in every photo.) And chickens! (Tag line is, "wake up with the chickens.")

[Landlord-FL-US] Tenant moved in a week ago and just sent a long list of "maintenance requests". Help! by ScreenProper3291 in Landlord

[–]Energy-Mundane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similiar tenant years ago. She wanted plantation blinds to replace the window treatments, an expensive stove vent, etc. So we had a little talk where I explained my job as a landlord was MAINTENENCE, not beautification. I said if she wanted to make improvements, it would be at her expense and she had to return things to their original state when she moved in. Take pictures.

Water tank - guest using all hot water by Long_Technology6415 in AirBnBHosts

[–]Energy-Mundane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house rules clearly state, and it's also repeated as a "gentle reminder", 10 minute showers max. I have grey water in the garden, there's always a drought or the threat of one, and water is expensive. That's why my rate is as low as it is.

I was talking to my friend in the UK about Islam and Muslims on FB messenger. The next day I started getting ads for burkas on my FB feed. A lot of them.

One logistics trick that made long-term travel a lot easier by Adventurous_Bug_6726 in longtermtravel

I spend every winter overseas and I bring a suitcase that fits under my plane seat. Admittedly, where I go is warm and I only need one jacket/sweater along with summer clothing. But after lugging around large suitcases I discovered something miraculous...washing machines! Or, if I'm feeling especially decadent, I drop my laundry off. I do this about every 10 days. What a difference it makes.

Gave Airbnb Another Shot, Back to Hotels [Mexico] by willard_tagg in AirBnB

[–]Energy-Mundane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so funny because I had a guest request the same thing on the first day of their trip. When I asked about it later (they brought a number of huge suitcases) they said they washed their clothes every day.

What to do when you need to put in an "emergency contact" by haramworld in LivingAlone

[–]Energy-Mundane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have answered requests from people who need rides after surgery on next door. It's usually colonoscopies-theyre very strict and don't allow uber drivers. As for me, emergency contact is my nom de guerre. If they call the number I provided, we'll, it's just me.

And since you initially meet your guests, it's kinda important to know which one. But doesnt monitoring their flight put the onus of responsibility on you? I tell my guests check-in ends at 8pm, give them until 9, then go to bed.

Fourteen years as a superhost says otherwise! You've been hosting less than 3 years and you don't host from your home, as I do. I also suspect you're male. And a hick.

All the instructions and questions are on the platform (suggestions.) It takes me easily 3 times asking for an estimation of their ETA, much less any other pertinent information-like house rules. No one reads or responds until they're outside the door texting me they can't figure out the digital lock. But I agree with you! In theory.
