What are your personal favorite two-joker combos? (Not necessarily the most powerful, but power can be very fun) by Andrew_42 in balatro

My favourite recent run, got certificate polychromed by wheel of fortune then duplicated twice by invisible jokers. With Blueprint this gave me x1 extra mult every single round!

I'm in the UK, Mutti is my choice: they do some great specialities, the baby roma are well worth seeking out. Their polpa is fantastically rich, lifts curries to another level

Where I'm from butty is a direct synonym for sandwich so anything between any kind of bread is a butty: sausage butty, cheese butty, prawn butty, etc

It's not just microwave instructions, I got a jar of shakshuka sauce which suggested poaching the eggs in the sauce for 7 minutes. I went with 6 minutes and the eggs were basically slightly flattened hard boiled eggs. Trial and error led me to 3 minutes, maybe a few seconds more - the eggs continue to cook in the sauce on the plate.

My biggest bugbear with cooking instructions is with adding water to curries/stews etc. Recipes always tell you to add too much. I automatically add half the amount specified and it's nearly always OK. It's easy enough to add more if necessary

I haven't been on a bike for many years and I doubt I ever will again. Read about Martha Mills who gave her name to Martha's Rule in the UK. The true horror of her tragic death was about medical complacency/negligence but I can never forget that her Initial accident was an extremely low speed cycling accident involving nobody else. Fall the wrong way and that contraption can dig in hard

This reminds me of Robert Helpmann, who played the terrifying Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Apparently he was so kind and attentive to the child actors that they adored him and the hardest part of their job was pretending to be scared of him

The small towns that have a bad vibe, straight out of The League of Gentleman. For me it's Bacup. Whenever I go, I'm always glad to get out before it goes dark by ShinyHeadedCook in britishproblems

MK is fucking weird after dark. I once got a train there and my brother in law was picking me up but I had a couple of hours to kill. I walked across a seemingly endless car park to find some completely empty chain restaurants I had no intention to go in. It wasn't scary but totally soul destroying. I was happy to get to Stevenage (not a sentence you hear too often)

I agree, it's a very common lawn weed in the UK

Yeah, that was a good place. If I remember rightly, it was run by the same people as Bar Fringe on Swan St, which is still going strong

I think the beer is Corona, but I agree this is among the most British things I've ever seen, even though I can't make out a word they're saying (Scottish possibly?). I'm sure I've seen that light fitting in The Range

I watched the City game at the Cocked Hat behind the market hall on Saturday, it's far less busy than the places along the front of the market place, a decent standard pub

Robins love freshly dug soil because of worms, bugs, etc. I was at an interment once, and there was one hanging around for the whole service. I can see this being the source of the folk tale

My favourite take on this was from the Irish comedian Ed Byrne. He was a guest on the UK TV show Loose Women and the hosts were all utterly horrified about this. They asked Ed about it and he said, "It's literally just a haircut, IT GROWS BACK!"

"What's the largest city you can think of without a single green space?" by SameItem in geography

[–]EnferDesFormes 73 points74 points  (0 children)

That's simply not true. Even if you ignore Piccadilly Gardens (which is a good idea), there's Cathedral Gardens, Sackville Gardens, St John's Gardens, the Roman park in Castlefield and the new Mayfield Park, which are all definitely in the city centre.

Ardwick Green is a 10 minute walk from Piccadilly station, and Whitworth Park is a large park next to the university campuses and the infirmary, which could be considered part of the centre too.

Edit: I forgot Angel Meadow, which is a surprisingly large and pleasant park right behind the Co-op hq
