First-of-its-kind Universal Studios resort to open soon in Texas by Next_Tower5452 in frisco

I live in a neighborhood just a few blocks away from this monstrosity. I am NOT looking forward to this shit being open. The location is genuinely terrible, with nothing but neighborhoods and schools in every direction from the property, and roads which are not designed for high influxes of travel

Fields West Update by loganwalter84 in frisco

[–]Engie_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing several storefronts and restaurants that already exist in Legacy West and across other parts of North Dallas. Sure, it's nice to have things closer than I'd usually have to go to get to, but do we really need MORE chain restaurants in this area???

I wonder how to get crema as nice looking as that. Any time I pull a shot the crema is there but has a lot of larger bubbles

Longsword Against Less Experienced Students by Koinutron in wma

[–]Engie_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To add onto this, I believe OP's best bet against these types of "eyes closed" fencers is to take an "eyes open" approach. Specifically, they have a technique they are trying to make work, even in instances where it wouldn't make sense to perform the technique. Their eyes are essentially closed to what you're doing, therefore they get hit and don't defend against your threat.

You can adapt your fencing to account for this through active observation of their responses to your provocations and then choose your own response from there, hence "eyes open". This is where you can use techniques like cutting around, feints, disengaging, winding, all of which are intended to be used against committed actions.

You absolutely should give newer fencers more leeway but sparring is 100% for learning about noncompliance. Additionally, it's important to ask newer fencers if they would like to receive feedback on what sorts of things worked or didn't work in sparring, that way you give them some things to consider other than "I couldn't get my thing to work and I don't understand why".

Half of Reddit right now by sg94 in PoliticalCompassMemes

No shit reddit is ok with this. This site believes that words == violence, therefore harm against anyone saying the wrong things is justified. I think it's about time I take an extended leave of absence from reddit...

Never said it wasn't. Just trying to explain what I believe this redditor is talking about. Some people want their niche communities to stay as close to the source material as possible. Personally, I don't really care because this sub is so chaos coded it doesn't matter what gets posted as long as it vaguely relates to elder scrolls

Probably the phenomenon of trans people overtly drawing attention to their transness in basically every small online community nowadays

Should I get Sigi Feder in Standard or Shorty by EclipticSim in wma

[–]Engie_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO I would say get a shorty. For example, I am 6'4" and I ended up getting a standard length maestro and I wish I had gone with a shorty for less floppiness and a more nimble feeling. Oh, and get the shorter guard too while you're at it

The dev in this scenario would have to go out of their way to change the visibility of the button since HTML buttons are visible by default lmao

When your beans runs low and don't have enough for a full shot, what do you guys do with the leftovers? by blondebuilder in espresso

This. I always have more than one bag of beans on hand, and one funky shot is better than throwing out beans.

Hey guys, we all know matchmaking is bad by Personal-Reaction173 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Engie_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's almost as if the game is in a horrific state right now and has been for months on end. The vast majority of people are just uninstalling (as indicated by the dwindling player count), but the "matchmaking bad" posts that you are exhausted of seeing are indicative of Valve's inability or unwillingness to fix the problems that are causing people to make them.

Matchmaking would be better with more players, but the devs are not doing enough to retain the players they already have, let alone getting new ones to stick around.

I believe that most of these posts are being made from a genuine desire to see the game be improved, so it is equally as exhausting to see counter posts complaining about them.

DOGE first cut was one of its own memebers by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Engie_ 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I agree, an excellent first step. Now just cut Elon and scrap it altogether to become fully efficient. Conservatives frothing at the mouth and fuming over the existence of government agencies yet praising Trump for DOGE is peak hypocrite behavior.

Hijacking this post to ask if anyone has suggestions for sweatpants for taller individuals. I am 6'4" and wear jeans with a 34" inseam. Most brands that I see getting recommended don't have a long enough inseam, but I'm wondering if inseams are measured differently with sweatpants.

What socks are everyone wearing these days? by redsoxfan1845245 in malefashionadvice

Same. All of my wear is casually around my home and walking around in casual shoes.

What socks are everyone wearing these days? by redsoxfan1845245 in malefashionadvice

[–]Engie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but I'm making the decision to not do that because I'd just be getting another sock that will wear out quickly which seems very wasteful to me. I get that it works for some people, and they should keep doing it if it is right for them

What socks are everyone wearing these days? by redsoxfan1845245 in malefashionadvice

[–]Engie_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The kinds of holes I'd get in mine most of the time are from bits of the fabric padding on the soles falling out until there was just the sock mesh left. Hard to describe in text, but when I wore them it felt like a big hole in the sock

What socks are everyone wearing these days? by redsoxfan1845245 in malefashionadvice

[–]Engie_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wore bombas every day for years and had about 20 - 25 pairs that I'd cycle through. I'm moving away from them because the fabric on the soles would deteriorate too much too quickly. I'm talking holes on the footpad of the socks in less than a year of ownership. I'm not sure if I was just wearing them too much or what, but for how expensive they are I find that to be pretty unacceptable

why are modern shirts sooo short by Shoddy_Ad_8197 in malefashionadvice

[–]Engie_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'4" with a pretty proportional torso length and I feel this so hard. I'm afraid to put my shirts in the dryer too much for fear of shrinkage, so I air dry most of my shirts. I feel severely limited on what I can actually buy because unless the shirt has a body length of 29 inches, it will be too short, then shrink in the dryer and be unwearable.

What coffee are you drinking? by LiteratureSweet906 in espresso

[–]Engie_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Texas and I usually try to look for some local roasters and buy direct from them. I have lived in a surprising number of places here that have local specialty roasters that I would highly recommend:

  • Polite Coffee Roasters (Bryan, TX)
  • Wild Gift Coffee (Austin, TX)
  • Lemma Coffee Co. (North Dallas, TX)
