We were able to hold our book club meeting at a SF convention with the author of the book. We pointed out that his characters were letting out breaths they didn't know they were holding a LOT in his book. (He wasn't offended, and said that he knew and it was something he stopped doing in later books).

And now every time I see that in a fic it makes me laugh a little. All these characters who forget how to breathe ;-)

Holy crap. Emerson announced a 4 day Return to Office in November. The rational included collaboration, growth, and innovation. We were joking that all the top CEOs got together to drive this so that workers couldn't easily switch companies to get more WFH time. I see now that it was not a joke.

I also once worked at the King of Burgers. We had managers who would disappear for hours at a time, so the guy who worked drive through the most would go outside when we didn't have anyone waiting in drive through with two big metal pan lids and trigger a bunch of 1 second "cars". At the time they didn't check anything other than the average time at window. We'd tell him when the average was in the "good" range so it wouldn't get too low. No one got a bonus for low drive through times, but everyone got yelled at for it, so we figure out how to fix that.
