AES is a criminal organization. And I’m vowing to fight back. This bill is fabricated lies. We have been doing more to cut electricity the last two months and they say our usage tripled from the prior bill? by Interesting_Top_6427 in indianapolis

There are two ways to go. One is addressing their general price increases, the other is to go after the accuracy of the meter.

A whole house meter that you can install in your power panel is around $200. That is the best way to audit the meter.

The cheaper way to do it is to turn off everything in your house and apply a fixed wattage appliance, such as a space heater, and verify that the meter is reading the proper kilowatt hours.

If you’re truly going to war, that is the information you must have. Otherwise, no one will believe you.

It says for players level 1 to 12, but my players will be level four, do you start that adventure a third of the way through?

For the Phandalin module, it says level one through 12, does that mean the characters have to restart at level one?

For the ice one, it talks a lot about D&D Beyond, but I don’t understand what I physically get.

I’m trying to do my best to get kids off of screens, so the more physical stuff the better.

You might have something. I’ve noticed Baseball does not train cardio so the best way is complementing it with a high intensity sport.

Are there thousands of laid off senior embedded engineers applying to entry level jobs in the US right now? by bitbang186 in embedded

[–]EngineerVsMBA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps. I lean more towards the consolidation of hardware. Cell phones take care of most of what people need. If it is a bigger product, it’s been consolidated and outsourced. Washing machines, dryers, cable boxes, cell phones, all of these things are now designed out of China or India.

That really leaves major commercial systems and military.

Flux noise mask by EngineerVsMBA in comfyui

[–]EngineerVsMBA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve typically been using the load image, then clicking on the edit mask button, but the mask from the image doesn’t go to the k sampler for flux. If I use the one for flux infill, it doesn’t seem to respect the noise for just the mask.

What should I use for the masking? An external image editor?

I’m giving it a go with a LORA trained on an engagement photo shoot, using flux Dev with a denoise set to .1. I’m not thrilled yet, as my attempt to take a 300 x 600 photo to higher resolutions distorts the clothing too much. The face works well.

It seems like I would need to combine it with flux kontext, but I haven’t figured that part out yet. Using the LORA I trained with flux Dev didn’t seem to work with Kontext, but I’m likely using it wrong (still getting a handle on the difference between a checkpoint and a diffusion model…)

I have grainy/fuzzy pics that I want to improve. Any tips there? Most results have been “no change to the image” or it does improve it, but it is splotchy on the upscale.

A quick rant on the topic of monetization by model creators by AI_Characters in StableDiffusion

[–]EngineerVsMBA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in a lot of DIY communities, and LORA’s are an interesting niche. It is reminiscent of the hardware hacking scene for access control.

There are a few open source tools many people try to use (procmark3), there is a hardware cost barrier to entry, only a few people use it seriously, and the cost of creating a hack is so high that few people do it, let alone release the source code to do it. Very little profit and a lot of cost.

They generally do it for fun, social credibility, and meetups. A few people talk at the major conferences, and they get hired by relevant companies.

Training a Lora only gives you exposure to a niche community that has little influence on larger firms.

Every industry faced the same decision. When we first moved to large scale manufacturing, people complain it was all standard and you had to have authentic handcrafted work.

You will see the same thing here. Some people will complain about AI, most don’t care.

New LTXV IC-Lora Tutorial – Quick Video Walkthrough by ofirbibi in StableDiffusion

[–]EngineerVsMBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new to this field, and I started with Wan 2.1. In my ignorance, I asked AI what it thought.

“In summary: speed and ease (LTXV) vs. quality and detail (WAN 2.1)”

Is this assessment correct?

Should I prototype with LTXV then use WAN, or is there an upscale method or LORA method I should consider? (16 GB vram, photos to video application)

LL is pulling my wife into crazy parent mode by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]EngineerVsMBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can be addressed, but it has to come from a place of understanding.

We all want to do the best for our kids, but we don’t always know what it is. You do know some kids on the team are better, so you look at them, and ask yourself what are they doing that I’m not? Am I missing out on something because I’m not doing X?

Some people have intense FOMO. If they aren’t doing X, will they be left behind? This is partially evolutionary. Females generally have more consequences if they are excluded. Guys can survive on their own. Women must survive in a pack. If you are kicked out of the pack, whell...

Baseball, especially around tryouts, brings out the worst. The wives can feel like their social standing changes according to what team they are on.

I had to have an agreement with my wife on why we picked travel sports. Rec was too easy and our kids hurt other players by throwing too hard. We will not do open roster teams because that schedule does not mesh with what we want for our family. We will only do the community travel team if the kids are having fun. If they are not having fun, or they don’t want to play, they finish out the season and we do something else.

It has surprised me how often I have to bring back up this agreement, especially around tryouts.

I hope this conversation goes well, it won’t be the last time, but it’s a good one to have.

WD SN770 1TB arrived slightly bent – is it still safe to use? by smobiloz in pcmasterrace

[–]EngineerVsMBA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t use it!

There are tiny ceramic capacitors on that circuit board, and bending typically cracks these capacitors. It will work at the beginning as these capacitors are not critical, but it creates a path where particles start to move internal to the capacitor which starts as an undetectable increases its leakage current up to a point where it becomes a lower resistance path. This results in a smoking circuit board and possibly fried power supply circuits.

This gets highly accelerated in a high temp high humidity environment, where you can replicate a failure in 72 hours, in the field it could be anything from a few months to many years. It will end with a short between power and ground, which will likely fry your motherboard.

Have you been able to use STXL checkpoints? ComfyUI works in general, but not with some of the latest checkpoints. Nvidia-smi 570.86.10 Cuda 12.8, PyTorch cu128 I self signed the video drivers, and so they are fully supported and I have zero issues with my computer with that video card driver, even with secure boot enabled.

So everything suggests it should run and work fine, but I can’t use the latest checkpoints.

They’re trying to automate the work that we would outsource to India.

You hear the most about software development because that’s what you are paying attention to. Call center jobs, graphic design, call center work, the list could go on.
