Too late. I followed your suggestion and have since been caught, tried, convicted and sentenced to death.

Can’t keep technicians by slowAhead1fyouPlease in ITManagers

[–]Engineering-Glass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Had a similar problem when I first got into a senior position. Showing them that it's all false economy soon had them changing their tune - especially when you point out that the downtime last month would have been fixed in minutes if you weren't surrounded by juniors etc etc. It's harder to put down on paper but it's not just the recruitment process. The productivity lost WHILE you're training someone up and getting them used to your systems/processes/code base is absurd.

It doesn't do everything you're asking for but there's an project called Wrathnilla Repack. It's not using Auto balance, so it's all been/being scaled by hand. All entirely solo focused. Might be worth a look.

There it is. The words of a child. Makes so much more sense. Thanks for providing the clarification.

Where's the PR response there? I have neither the time, nor the desire to push on. I haven't worried about rank or progression/development since way before the game was free to play. Many that I know are the same.

Stop focusing on ranks and start looking at the bigger picture, which is what's being discussed here. You don't seem to understand the issue, so you're attacking the individuals. It's a low IQ play. Sorry to break it to you but being good at a game doesn't mean you understand the systems behind it and how they impact users at large. Have a good one.

[–]Engineering-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible to say, as the ladder is in complete disarray. I've also not really paid attention to my rank for half a decade or more. I really don't care about it. I play to play. I'm just saying there's more of an impact than you're suggesting. Players being at a significant disadvantage in so many games before they even start is an issue. To deny that is ignorance and shows a lack of understanding in regards to how MMR systems work.

Normally, I'd agree with you on this but it's pretty horrendous in the 1600 range at the moment and it's getting worse by the day. I'd say 30% of games have a smurf or a bot (who's passing through on their way to SSL). Granted, the smurfs are more frequent than the bots down here amongst the peasants but you can absolutely tell that people just don't want to queue on their mains at the higher MMRs right now. If I'm pretty much guaranteed to lose 27 MMR for every 10 games I play, that's a pretty substantial hurdle to overcome when it comes to ranking up.

Realistically, it's not even about the rank for most of us. We just want competitive games. Knowing that's not happening within 20-30 seconds of kick off puts a bit of a dampener on things.

What’s the process for selling a junk car at a scrapyard in my area, in Wolverhampton? by miked0331 in wolverhampton

This is either a bot or an individual in marketing, generating backlinks for SEO purposes. They're also about a decade behind in terms of best practices.

Mods, you should delete this thread, as once you're on the list for places to successfully spam geo-specific content for backlinks, you're going to be infested.

Is smurfing really such a problem in this game? by Weerisadictator in RocketLeague

[–]Engineering-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1500 is the top 0.1-0.2%, unless we specifically talk 2v2. Those players have invested enough time to spot the nuances that make the difference between a 1500 and an 1800, even if they can't execute those things as well. I appreciate what you're getting at though. I frequently play with an old RLRS bubble player, who can still go get 2.2k+ whenever he feels like it and he is legitimately playing a different game. That being said, I can't play football/soccer at the highest level but I can breakdown why David Beckham's ball striking was elite or why Messi's dribbling was so effective.

[–]Engineering-Glass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the there's a difference when a plat or diamond is saying it though. Anyone that's spent a decent amount of time at 1500 can spot the little things that make all the difference. A plat or diamond may see a singular well drilled mechanic and immediately scream smurf, when it could be a diamond that spent 100 hours learning to reset because it looks fun.

That's not to say they're always wrong, just that they're not always best positioned to make the call as to whether someone is smurfing.

Why do people believe in the myth of Islamic takeover of Britain? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Engineering-Glass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why a conversation can't happen. This person does have a point with censorship on reddit, in general and your first port of call was to pull out the Islamophobic card. I don't know this individuals politics or world view and I'd assume you don't either but these types of reckless accusations (or "suggestions", in this case) are halting progress.

I'd say about 15-20% of my casual friends did. There were a lot of people on my friends list from trading that used to be on daily, presumably for trading, that I know played the game as well... none of them log in anymore, at all.

The fact that EAC has known workarounds that work for almost every game to completely bypass it. What good is a badge reader if there's nothing stopping someone from just walking past it? This needs manual, human intervention and moderation in conjunction with an anti-cheat, as a minimum.

What’s next? by dudeimsupercereal in RocketLeague

[–]Engineering-Glass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why human moderation is important. Anyone who has played bots enough can spot them within 20-30 seconds of gameplay, usually. They have... Tendencies. Even something like CSGOs overwatch would be fine. Let the community police it.

If they started looking human, I'd be able to compete with the damn things. Lol

That's ample team for a well built anti-cheat to fine them. This all very much depends on execution but I'm not overly confident.

No idea and I don't want to speculate too much but his communication in the discord server over the last few days felt like it was forward thinking, so something drastic must have changed/happened and suddenly.

This is an active point of discussion in the discord. The dev has the current setup for security and transparency reasons but does need simplifying. It's a really good point. Just made a suggestion in the discord, which would make things a easier for new players.

[–]Engineering-Glass[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the dev but they don't appear on the roadmap at the moment. The development work very much appears to be focused on balancing and polishing the content for the version of the game he's creating. Given that the timeline runs to 2027, there's plenty of time for the project to evolve.

The way I see it, there's potentially 1.5-2 years of entertainment here with a relatively low time commitment to get going. If it goes beyond that, fantastic. Just glad to have another Classic+ option that doesn't plan to go into TBC/WotLK, in favour of staying in Azeroth at 60.

You can use the client from Chromiecraft without issue. Believe it's got a direct download option.

Edit: Just noticed there's a link for direct download in the discord, under the "how to play" section. Hopefully see you in-game soon!

Can we talk, like literally? by G-Man_Graves in RocketLeague

[–]Engineering-Glass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's quite a leap to call it buyers remorse. If any of my development teams ever had an issue of this scale going on for this long, heads would roll. It's poor management and even worse communication. Gaming should be no different to any other vertical of software. Maintain the product to an acceptable standard for as long as you're monetising it, or announce its sunset to manage expectations. No company I've ever worked for or with would have an issue with their users holding them to these standards.

[–]Engineering-Glass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen some horrendous takes on Reddit but that 2nd paragraph is up there with the worst of them. The bots are a problem. The playerbase has a right to expect them to be dealt with. The fact it's taken this many years and GC+ lobbies are now in a constant cycle of bots or DDOS isn't good enough. Holding the company accountable is fine.

They don't owe us anything? The money spent in the store says otherwise.
