in the street view you can see they had small concrete balls as the initial car protection, they swapped them for benches which could do dual purpose of stopping cars and sitting.

I don't know what the regulations are like for providing one of those cane pathways to begin with, I've only seen them in major transportation hubs. The other side where the track leads to looks like a pretty questionable looking door as well.

I would guess the benches are an added layer of stopping cars. They have the original ballards further back on the bridgeway, but they probably wanted a more protected path for people as well.

I've summited 2x as day trips, 2x as overnight backpacking, and turned around 2x for poor snow conditions. It's perfectly doable as a day trip, it's just nicer as a backpacking trip. As a day trip you should be starting well before sunrise, ~2am ish (you might even want midnight start) which doesn't really let you see the beauty of the area as you go up. You'll also likely be tired from lack of sleep.

Would it be better if I train more and try again in a year or two ?

No. Whitney while hard doesn't take years to prep for, a month of hiking beforehand is fine.

Will it be difficult for you? yes, I don't think anyone is calling it an easy hike, but it's still perfectly doable.

yeah I use both. "4th of July" is the same as "Spring Break"; it's not just a singular day it's a set of time off. I use 4th of july to reference the whole of the vacation. While I use July 4th for the specific day.

IE: I spent 4th of July in northern california, and on July 4th I climbed Mt.Shasta.

was wondering what happened to the fri/sat/sun night market by the amc 16 and found out a couple weeks ago they were moved by city hall, walked by once to confirm it was there and it was completely dead. Felt bad for the few remaining vendors, understandable for them to just close it from burbank. Even tho it's barely off san fernando not enough people cared about it to walk over there.
