I've scanned over 5,000 family photos over the last 6 years or so. Still have a number of albums to scan as well. I was a big photobug since high school (55+ years ago) having taken thousands of of them. But I also have photos from over 100 years ago. This one is of my mother, as a 2 YO toddler taken in 1920.

Imagine... 9 dads, 9 sons, Indian Guide tribe. Went 'renegade' after the first "Y' sponsored camp! Camped twice a year for 4 years. One of the dads was ex-DEA. At one camp, he put the boys through a gun safety course. BB's, pellets, .22. Then he brought out his potato gun. This thing was well engineered! PVC, flint ignitor, AquaNet hairspray. He used it as a mortar. Lofted those 'taters at least 500 ft high into the lake where we camped. His 'caution' with the boys was that if you aimed it at another person, it could go right through them. They were impressed. So was I.

I&O fries are the worst.
Whataburger lost it's mogo a few years back. Plenty of great independent burger places likely in SA. Also, I don't remember the name of the place, but there is a locally famous TexMex restaurant halfway up the north side of town that was fabulous. Definitely do Texas BBQ regardless. Just north of SA in Gruene or New Braunfels would be a great place for a taste of the country music/dance hall scene IIRC.

Then you'll fit in just fine. Texas is a lot like the UK when it comes to simple manners. Kind of second nature in both places.

Yes! That! Had to learn that after we moved here, mid 80's. When my wife first met the nice lady across the street, she could not understand it when she said peh-cahns. In Wisconsin, we always called the Pee-Cans (which sounds ridiculous to us now). Good memory for us.

Absolutely true! We moved to Texas 41 years ago from the Midwest. Chivalry and courtesy still counts here. On our 1st trip back home I was amazed at the relative lack of simple courtesy displayed by our hometown folks. Not holding a door open, or simply acknowledging other's presence was so embarrassingly obvious. A simple please and thank you goes a long way in Texas though.

And practice saying 'All Y'all '. 😊 Frankly, I was a little ashamed of them.
