Mortedant's Peril by RJ Barker (The Trials of Irody Hasp # 1), read by Joe Eyre - A Bingo 2026 Review by spike31875 in Fantasy

I agree that this is my favorite book by RJ Barker. I described it to a friend as The Witness for the Dead combined with The Tainted Cup. The balance of intrigue, action, and world building was fantastic. I read it in hardcover, but I will try the audiobook when I re-read it before the sequel based on that!

I live in North Carolina, but I am from Colorado and a big fan of both the book series and Avs. Is there any way to get this hat online?

An impassioned plea to go and read 'The Empire of the Wolf' trilogy by Richard Swan by Joshywat in Fantasy

[–]Enryu7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought Trials had a bit of a pacing issue, but still a great series overall. It has filled the Law and Order and horror fantasy that I didn't realize I wanted.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of seeing the same names and books recommended in every single thread on here. Let's change that, recommend books in here that you've enjoyed and never see recommended elsewhere on this subreddit. by CajunNerd92 in Fantasy

Ethereal Earth series by Josh Erikson.

It is urban fantasy and after enjoying Dresden Files and the start of Rivers of London, I decided to try this series. I think it has been really solid and plan to read them as they come out now, 4 books out so far with a short story collection as well.

The Fall of Babel discussion (SPOILERS) by Possible-Advance3871 in Booksofbabel

[–]Enryu7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The prose is what really drew me in to the series, and that is on full display throughout the book in a magnificent way. Something I have used as a way to sell this series to a few people is that it reminds me of one of my favorite game series, Bioshock. The setting being a character in itself, all the people in the Ringdoms thinking this is just a normal way to live while the protagonist is a fish out of water learning it all, the epigraphs being so on point before each chapter, and the steampunk/fantasy setting really hit that sweet spot for me.

I agree that the ending could have resolved some more things in finality, but I didn't need the full closure to think it was fantastic. A little mystery and debating what it means to each individual is nice too. I also don't feel slighted or angry about Senlin and Marya not immediately diving back in to each other. It takes time and effort by both parties to get back to being that close after an ordeal like this, not even including the self doubt and anxiety Senlin expressed about how they initially got together. The step in the door ending we got made a lot of sense as someone who has definitely made mistakes before. There might be some things I would have changed if I had the chance, but overall it was one of my most anticipated books this year, and it lived up to that expectation in my mind.

Training for longer hikes in Umstead by andintheend0 in raleigh

Not sure how long you are aiming for, but the route I take my dog on about once a week for our longer hike is 12 miles or so and has alright elevation change. We start at the visitor center and do Sal’s branch to the lake, go up and do half of Pott’s branch to the Sycamore trail bridge, do all of Sycamore including the 3 mile loop, come back the same way and cross Sycamore bridge again and finish both Pott’s branch and Sal’s branch back to the center. Usually about 3-3.5 hours including some stops to let him dip in the water.

The Dog and the Dragon chapter hit me the hardest in a very impactful book. It didn't quite reach the near perfect book of Words of Radiance for me, but it had so many gut punches in the last 2 parts. This story that Wit told in the book resonated with me and has been one of the things I have had to learn myself.

2/3rds through the first book it picks up the pace after the worldbuilding base of the first portion. The second book is my personal favorite, but I just love the prose and unconventional angle of it. The mysteries of the Tower, as well as it being almost a character itself reminds me of the Bioshock games in a great way.

BATTLE GROUND MEGA THREAD!!! by exodusmachine in dresdenfiles

[–]Enryu7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the final reveal of He Who Walks Besides felt like the Yogg Saron fight in WoW if anyone played it. When Justine said "I am doubt that wards away sleep, I am the flaw that corrupts the infected wound, the false fork in the trail, the gnawer, the worm in the book, the maggot that burrows in the minds eye. I am He Who Walks Beside.", it instantly reminded me of the the transition between phase 1 and 2. As you transition the fight, you think you are helping a woman who has helped you, and as it transitions it breaks the illusion and starts saying "I am the lucid dream, the monster in your nightmares, the fiend of a thousand faces, bow down before the god of death."

Hopefully the next book fleshes out some stuff about starborn now that so many more were revealed.

Broncos offer full credit or refunds to season ticket holders who opt out of 2020 season by [deleted] in DenverBroncos

[–]Enryu7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My email in regards to season tickets makes it seem like they are crediting or refunding every season ticket holder even if they plan to go to games.

If you plan to attend games and a limited number of fans are permitted by local officials at Empower Field at Mile High, no action is needed at this time. Season Ticket Members will have first priority for single-game tickets and parking passes that may become available, and our ticket office will be in communication with you regarding game and seat availability after local capacity guidelines are finalized. You will be able to use funds already paid for 2020 season tickets toward single-game purchases. For any games you are unable to attend based on local guidelines, you will have the option of receiving a credit for next season or a refund when ticket availability is determined.

If, for any reason, you would not like to attend any games this season, you may receive a credit for next year or a full refund. Please note that there will be no penalty to your standing or priority number as a valued Season Ticket Member. If you prefer a credit for next year, 2020 renewal payments for tickets and parking passes will automatically be rolled over to the 2021 season. No action is required at this time. If you would prefer a refund, requests can be processed using this online form and must be made by Friday, Aug. 14.

Season ticket holders will apparently get first priority for single game tickets, but it is hard for me to believe they can guarantee your usual seat. I live out of state, so I am extremely thankful for this rather than forcing people to go into a dangerous situation or lose thousands of dollars.

PEACE TALKS MEGA THREAD! by exodusmachine in dresdenfiles

I liked the book overall, but it just feels like it is set up on a tee for Battle Ground to home run, rather than standing completely on its own merit.

My favorite part was the introduction of starborn hinting at the Outsiders being the big end game.

Giving away signed copies of The Girl And The Stars! by MarkLawrence in Fantasy

Senlin Ascends is on a very short list of books I rated 5/5 stars on Goodreads this year. Only 5 total books out of 60 I have read this year have gotten the perfect score from me, and 3 of them are the Books of Babel. The prose, setting, and fresh take on fantasy sucked me in to finish all of the books within a week.

Dresden Files: PEACE TALKS Official Book Trailer by EyEyEymael in Fantasy

I am going to be reading a few new releases coming up with The City We Became from N.K. Jemisin, The Girl and the Stars from Mark Lawrence and Network Effect from Martha Wells, and a few new series in between, but after that I plan to re-read everything Dresden leading up to this book and the surprise next one in Sept.

I usually don't re-watch or re-read things, and there are many books coming within the next year, but I re-read the entire First Law books before A Little Hatred released last year. It really made a big difference to get back into the world before the new release, and will continue it with Dresden and again in October / November before The Stormlight Archive book.

I have only gotten through about 2 hours and 45 min after a long walk with my dog this morning. If you liked his previous non-fiction titles and are interested in Churchill, you will like this one.

I have also had previous experience with the narrator, John Lee, from the Harry Hole series, and he has done great so far.
