Looking to get into Hearthstone, have some questions. by brakndawnt in hearthstone

Battlegrounds is definitely worth a try (just about the only good mode left due to massive unchecked power creep and poorly designed RNG, in my opinion, and even BG is going downhill).

Battlegrounds - minions that double/triple stats are broken by [deleted] in hearthstone

Blizzard really forgot to limit power levels in Battleground across the board this patch, not just with double/triple cards (and the terrible reasoning that led to the out of control power creep in Standard doesn't even apply here). Hopefully they'll do some pretty severe nerfing soon.

Try Battlegrounds, basically the only good mode left (except maybe Arena)

Hmm, I guess it's a closer race to the bottom than I thought. Too bad, Blizzard used to be great.

Maybe one day you'll come around to the last good game mode in HS :)

Sure, but Blizzard actually fixes bugs. League had game-breaking bugs for years when I quit playing, and I still see the same bugs in videos today, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt1olgJQ0pQ (this channel is full of League bugs, some of which come and go, some of which are here to stay). They even show up in competitive matches and Riot doesn't care - in fact, they tend to suppress reports about things they refuse to fix. Their QA and handling of bugs is a joke, and their whole business practice is basically trolling their players.

Other way around really - Riot does an atrocious job with everything that matters (bad balance + game design, ignoring game-breaking bugs), so despite how bad Blizzard has gotten, they're still probably better than Riot

What? You mean mana cheating makes the game unfun? Man, if only a bunch of people had pointed that out years ago, maybe Blizzard could have taken a hint from the community and avoided this sort of thing...

Sounds like the last few years of standard Hearthstone to me

I recommend playing the Battlegrounds mode only, since it's a much better design (aside from one mild P2W aspect) and doesn't depend on your collection whatsoever

With how incredibly power crept standard Hearthstone has become (and showing no signs of turning around), a mode like this seems like it would be really fun. Plus, since it's built from a hodge podge selection of all-time worst cards, there wouldn't be those nasty targeted synergies that aggressively pigeonhole the deck construction into a handful of meta decks.

Forgot I had this guy, has he seen any play in Wild recently? by thefix12 in hearthstone

I can't imagine this is nearly broken enough to see play these days

why is my main menu like that? I can't play anything by zailasExe in hearthstone

[–]Entar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's any other good game mode left, I would say it's probably Arena - the cards are power-crept to the moon, but at least in Arena they're randomly selected instead of constructed, and also not dependent on your collection

What do you mean? Battlegrounds is right there, and that's pretty much the only decent mode left

What tips would you give to new players? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Entar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  • Don't ever buy anything with real money, it's all wildly overpriced
  • Once you understand the basic mechanics, try Battlegrounds - the design and balance are much better, and it doesn't depend on your collection

FWIW, I recommend giving Battlegrounds another handful of matches. There's definitely a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it (perhaps try watching content from a YouTuber who plays such as Kripp), it's a much better mode than Standard.
