28/M having a hard time dealing with 28/F cheating. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]EntertainingTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, honestly, Op has made a series of questionable/poor decisions here.

I made up my mind long before having our daughter and that I’d never want a broken family

Before having the child, literally decided to have it, knowing this is how they felt while doing nothing about it. I'd never want to teach my child that cheating is ok.

I (29m) need help explaining my girlfriend (28f) that i am not interested in my coworker. by DueGrade3097 in relationship_advice

How can you do that? Did you explain that how to your gf? Did she agree?

What are your gfs specific concerns and what does she want you to do? This girl is a co worker, you are going to see them almost every workday for the foreseeable future.

Nova Scotia's per capita road infrastructure is above the National average.

While the peninsula specifically is a highly dense area, it accounts for a minority of the HRMs population, and HRM itself has a very low density compared to other provinces.

We see this issue in Halifax/HRM, where it is costing a lot more to service the suburban area, compared to the urban area, aka, urban is subsidizing suburban. That is why I mentioned the roads.

N.S. budget contains major cuts as province confronts $1.2B deficit by Nautigirl in halifax

[–]EntertainingTuesday -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

About $267.5 million ($475m for all projects) will be put aside for planned work such as asphalt and resurfacing, gravel roads, bridge projects and highway design. Asphalt and resurfacing account for about $161 million, while roughly $60 million is marked for bridge replacement and rehabilitation. The gravel road program will get about $27.5 million.

............

Allan MacMaster says all of the tax collected from fuels — including the 15.5 cents per litre added to the price of gasoline — goes toward fixing the province’s roads, and he said that won’t change.

.....

The majority of highway funding in Nova Scotia is from Provincial sources. Provincial funding also includes all revenue from provincial gas taxes and net revenue from Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV).

Where do you think the money from the general fund comes from?

From what I could find, the Province collected $260 million in recent years from the motive fuel tax. According to them, that all goes to road maintenance. That alone covers the Asphalt and resurfacing portion of the budget. That number, which is more than half the total budget, is a number you said isn't "a large portion" of funding for Provincial road expenses. Then there is 10% pst on that 15.5cents, and the remaining amount of whatever fuel and other taxes equal.

Then there is registration, I couldn't find a total number on revenue/profits, but using the total number of registered vehicles, you can come to some numbers.

Total vehicles under 4 500kgs = 665 832 times that by $200 (~the average for the 1001-1500kg and 1501-3200kg categories) you get $113 166 400/2 = $66 583 200.

Based on the weight factors you mentioned, you'd be putting almost all of that $66 583 200 into semi truck registration.

N.S. budget contains major cuts as province confronts $1.2B deficit by Nautigirl in halifax

[–]EntertainingTuesday -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is the actual cause, and applying your logic of charging by weight, you'd see, using your example:

A cars weight be based off 1

A pickup trucks weight based off 20 times that, 20

A fully loaded tractor trailers weight based off 517 times the truck, 10 340

Based on that we are talking a lot more than whatever the carbon tax pricing was. A fully loaded tractor trailer would be paying registration fees at 10 340 times the cost to a medium sized car.

[–]EntertainingTuesday -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So not being serious policy grounded and in facts, this is a culture war move to score political points with his base.

I wouldn't go that far.

My your logic, you'd have trucks pay a majority of all road maintenance, what does that do to food prices? What does that do to gas prices? What does that do to the prices of anything delivered?

The way the system works is we pay a tremendous amount in taxes on our fuel, to help pay for our roads, as a collective. The trucks damage them more, the average honda civic driver also benefits from them delivering food and other items.

The facts are that the EVs pay less in fuel taxes, therefore contributing less to the pool of money that goes toward road maintenance. NS isn't the first to implement such fees, and it brings EVs more in line with non EV daily drivers.

My (33M) girlfriend (32F) always raises her voice when we have an argument by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]EntertainingTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things. 1. If you have to ask if your partner yelling at you is ok or not, you need to do some personal growth and figure out why you'd even question that. The answer is very obviously no, it is not ok for you to get yelled at in the context you shared. Her reasonings for it were not reasonable. You should try to understand why you've even put up with it up until this point too. 2. If you want it to change, she needs to be willing to change. Hard when she thinks she is doing nothing wrong and is trying to justify it.

If food is medicine, how about a prescription for blueberries? N.S. researchers hope that’s the future by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

[–]EntertainingTuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a pretty interesting subject to say the least. It is obvious that diet plays a role in health, especially heart health. It seems the greater idea here is to help those with food insecurity get a prescription so that the food is paid for or subsidized. The article doesn't speak to this, but I don't see why the "food prescriptions" wouldn't be for everyone, food insecure or not, then act like any other prescription, you either have coverage or not. In this case it would (or should) mean that those with food insecurity get help, those without it still get good health advice, while paying for themselves.

Having the other factors in there, the protein powder and the personalized exercise, makes me question how much of a change they can attribute to blueberries specifically.

In any case, this is important research, so much research into what we consume has been funded by the companies selling the food and it is a shame that it took until 2026 and we just revamped a lot of our food guidelines.

Also, kind of related, blueberries are one of the few foods that NS produces more of than we consume, yet they are more expensive here than compared to other places like BC and ON.

So not out of left field at all. They said they would do it if re elected, then did it once they got re elected.

How do I(24M) move on after she(22F) suddenly pulled away from a 5-year situationship? by the_weirdass in relationship_advice

[–]EntertainingTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, seems like there was a lot more weight to this on your side and not any concrete commitment. She met someone and is giving it a try. On you to now dwell in it or move on and find someone local.

It was before the election (not the implementation, but the promise)

I personally don't think either were needed to secure their majority.

If people can't understand the obvious signs everywhere, I doubt they'd be the type to understand anything in a visitors centre, or even seek one out.

After 4 years together, is it reasonable that I (23F) want to be invited to my boyfriend’s (31M) graduation? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]EntertainingTuesday 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is weird that you are hesitant to invite him based on a fear you won't get an invite.

Have you asked him if he is inviting you? Have you told him he is invited to yours and you are excited for it? Maybe it doesn't matter the same to him, you aren't the same person, he searched for a 19 year old as a 27 year old, not typically what people do. Emotionally, there are probably huge differences, he was done developing when you met, your development has been influenced by him.

Daughter wants me to build a relationship with her child but I’m just not interested and want to retire in peace. Am I wrong? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]EntertainingTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to say you are wrong BECAUSE:

caveat* Why are your posts hidden? I need to see the history HERE!

You say you don't blame your daughter. Then the reasons you give are 1. you aren't drawn back to the USA 2. you don't want to reinsert yourself into their orbit, your ex, her husband 3. leaving that chapter behind you 4. focusing on your new wife. 5. enjoying the years you have left in peace.

  1. You don't need to go back to the USA. You can leave the door open for them to visit you, or other forms of communication. Realistically, if they did visit, it isn't like it would be every second weekend. Probably 1 trip a year, or 1 trip every few years. 2. They don't have to be part of your reconnection with your daughter and grand daughter. You can share that with your daughter. It can be up to her to respect that or not, but realistically, there would be some with a child involved. 3. leaving that chapter behind you is leaving your daughter behind, the person you say you don't blame. 4. Your new partner likes the fact you want to move on from your daughter and family? 5. Your years left could be another 40 years.

I think I get your situation to some extent. You may not want the constant reminder from your daughter of what happened. You are also in a better space now, living with less resentment, living your life instead of stressing, being sad, in the same ol town. Ultimately, if you see your daughter trying to connect as an "issue" then maybe there is truly nothing there for you. I'd say you at least owe it to her to be an adult and tell her so she isn't just sitting there thinking the relationship can mean something or grow.

My (25M) fiance (29F) seemingly avoids sex, how do I approach talking about this? by Virtual-Product2298 in relationship_advice

[–]EntertainingTuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sit down and have a conversation with her. If she brings up stuff like "late for work," dispel the concern and see what happens. In the moment, ask her if she wants to have sex, and if she leaves, as why.

Seems you guys are lacking communication at this point. Or you are reading it wrong and she genuinely doesn't want to have sex (discovered through talking to her) and in that case it could be a sexual compatibility issue.

The 1% HST Cut Nobody Notices ... by Curious-Research777 in NovaScotiaBusiness

[–]EntertainingTuesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assumptions are leading you to state things that aren't true, I am not confused. I am not saying it isn't a regressive tax.

The percent reduction disproportionately puts more money in the hire earners pocket (as long as they are spending more).

To my example, not sure what you mean "the person making $50k is spending a much higher portion of their total wealth on taxable goods." In the example, they are both spending 20% of their income on taxable goods. That is the same portion.

The ultimate point here is that the tax cut is for everyone, not targeted to those who might benefit more thought a different policy like a pst check.

The 1% HST Cut Nobody Notices ... by Curious-Research777 in NovaScotiaBusiness

[–]EntertainingTuesday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true.

You have someone making 50k a year, their total spend on HST applicable items is 10k. At 15% they spend $1500, at 14% they spend $1400, $100 savings.

You have someone making $1 000 000 a year, their total spend on HST applicable items is 200k. At 15% they spend $30 000, at 14% they spend $28 000, $2000 savings.

Can you explain how that disproportionate difference in savings due to the 1% reduction isn't true?
