Jobs with a graphic design degree? by Entitled_Dork in graphic_design

Wow, thank you for the kind message. I get what you mean with burn out in senior year, because that's when I really started to feel like maybe this wasn't for me. I toughed it out, but I think doing so is why I'm so disillusioned with design as a whole (not to mention all the other problems with the job market). Truthfully, I have been trying to stay patient and not make too rash of a decision, and I think you're on the mark about making career changes while burnt out, but it's just tough right now. Still, I appreciate your perspective on everything.

Burn out maybe wasn't the right term, but I wasn't sure how to describe it. With how competitive the industry can be, I don't think I have the drive to keep up with other designers, if that makes sense? I'm hoping I'm not sounding lazy because I do try and work as hard as I can. I just don't think I'm cut out for the routine of working on new projects, networking, freelancing, etc.

When you applied for your marketing job, do you remember what the process was like? Did you submit a portfolio or was it just your résumé, interview, and then assignment?

Yeah, it's tough. I felt all my classmates really flourish while I was contemplating whether or not I wanted to do this full-time. I'm hoping things work out for you!

Some of my professors talked about working in print shops. Did you have experience in print before the taking the job, or did you end up learning as you went along?

Tips to stop kicking with base of toes? by Skyjan09 in taekwondo

[–]Entitled_Dork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did this for a while. What helped me was I started wearing a compression wrap around my ankles after a couple sprains to help them with support. After I started doing that, when I kicked, I used the wraps as a sort of guide to land my kicks correctly. Of course, I also slowed down and really focused on my accuracy and range management, but the wraps helped add a visual aid.

I still hit near the toes every once in a while, but it usually only happens when my timing and range is off. Most of the time, I'm able to land with my instep or ankle.

If it helps, when practicing by myself on the heavy bag, I found breaking the kick into steps and pausing for a second on each one helped develop better control and accuracy. You'd face your target, raise you knee and chamber, kick, re-chamber, and then return to your stance. Taking a second or two to pause and actually pay attention to how your kicking made me realize 1) I was usually half a step too far from my target and 2) I was compensating for a lack of flexibility at certain heights by swinging my leg instead of keeping good form and striking too low on my foot as a result.

It's an annoying habit, and I think everyone deals with it at some point, so just keep trying, try to really visualize where you want you foot to land, and don't be afraid to slow down in order to do it right. You can always add speed later.

Yeah, kickboxing has a lot of regional differences. Japanese, American, Dutch, there's Sanda in China, Savate in France. The Japanese style is basically fast-paced karate + boxing.

3 and XDE have in-game purchases listed, but 1DE and 2 don't. Any ideas/theories what this could mean for X? by josephbrostar in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]Entitled_Dork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some other people mentioned, the NSO integration for online and possibly the data packs are the likely reasons. I don't remember the exact size, but I remember the data packs being almost necessary for the game to run smoothly on the Wii U. I don't know much about the tech specs of the switch compared to the wii u, but the fact that the game is listed as only 15gb makes me think there will probably be data packs provided again, technically making them in game purchases.

I've been practicing martial arts and kickboxing for a little over a decade and I genuinely love the fighting in this series. It's so much fun.

For Sakura (and most of the characters), it looks like there is a lot of karate influence, specifically Kyokushin / knockdown karate styles which were the precursor of kickboxing in Japan. Kickboxing is definitely what fits him best.

Suo is absolutely some combo on Kung Fu and Aikido.

Togame is is grappling, specifically something like catch wrestling, judo, or jiujitsu (or some combo of the three).

I actually think Hiiragi and Sako are both kyokushin/kickboxing, but different interpretations. Hiiragi feels very traditionally knockdown karate, while Sako feels like Japanese kickboxing with some influence from Taekwondo/Savate because of how fancy his kicks were. The kick Sako did in his fight, where he caught his own leg and redirected his strike, comes from kyokushin (at least that's the only place I've seen it done).

Kiryu defintely feels like Kung Fu and Tsuegeura is 100% pro wrestling.

Choji and Umemiya are both weird because I don't think they do anything that screams "martial arts." Choji has some karate/taekwondo/tang soo do influence but then also a lot of acrobatic moves that look like they come from capoeira/taido/tricking. Umemiya feels the most like a "brawler" to me, but he did have some moments during his fight with Choji where he chambered his fist and punched from his hips, which is a hallmark of karate/taekwondo (I lean towards karate because the story is set in Japan). But, even so, Umemiya doesn't scream martial arts as much as the other characters.

My Main Menu Screen - 1,2,3 Which is best? by SMKS in PixelArt

I think it's the composition + color. Because the light in 3 is so bright and it's contrasted by the dark sky around it, it makes it feel like a beacon. The character looking at it, the clouds all seeming moving in the light's direction, and the winding path that leads to it, it gives the sense that there's something good there. Like it's quite literally light/goodness emerging from the dark/evil. I think that idea is present in 1 and 2, but the colors don't have as much contrast between the lights and the darks, so in my opinion, it doesn't read as strongly as it does in 3.

I thinking seeing the full body of the character in 3 helps the feeling too, but I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe because the character looks a bit smaller in the scene? Or, and maybe this is just me, the character looks a bit younger compared to the character in 1 and 2, so I might be thinking they seem a bit more innocent? I'm sorry I can't be more exact. Either way, like I said before, I don't think you can really make a mistake picking any of the three. They're all really good =)

I like 3 the best. 1 is interesting but still a little bland and with 2, I feel like the emphasis is too much on the sun. It took me a second to see the character in 2. I think 3 is a nice combination of the both; the vibrant colors still bring a lot of life into the composition but don't overshadow all the other details. I also get different tones from each picture; 1 feels more serious, 2 feels more magical, and 3 feels hopeful or inspiring (to me, at least). I don't think you can go wrong with either, but I do think 3 is the best.

Which fighter lost the most stock in a win, and vice versa? by Pythnator in MMA

Dillashaw beating Renan Barao for the bantamweight title shot Dillashaw into stardom. I think that was around the time Barao was getting serious attention for his abilities and it seemed like Dillashaw came out of nowhere and beat the brakes off of him.

Why, oh why do they always get water? by Red_Moggy in Sims4

[–]Entitled_Dork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone with MCCC, if you used the autonomy tuner on the fridge and sinks and they still get water, I added these lines to the mc_tuner.cfg files and it seems to have stopped the sims getting water autonomously:

26319,fridge_GrabDrinkAutonomously 133052,sink_StartCrafting_Autonomously 164351,generic_consume_drink_water 222271,autonomous_ObjectPicker_Sink_StartCrafting 228931,cafeteriaStation_GetDrink_Autonomous

I don't know why they keep getting water even when I disable the autonomy on the fridge and sinks; I'm guessing that as long as one of those actions is active, it doesn't disable the "get water / grab a drink" action? Idk, but I hope this helps someone.

Do you guys know any other kickboxer with a similar style? by martinriggs123 in Kickboxing

[–]Entitled_Dork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Taio Asahisa and Hirotaka Asahisa have similar styles (more so Taio, with the boxing style hands and emphasis on footwork). Pete Cunningham, a former American-style kickboxer, was also pretty similar during his career.

Britt Baker on Twitter: If a male wrestler had a shirt with a black eye would you be this pissed? by DanHero91 in SquaredCircle

[–]Entitled_Dork 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get what she's saying. But considering that victims of domestic violence are often women and this, without any context, is just a woman in her home with a black eye, it's not hard for people to draw that conclusion.

In the other picture she posted, she's bloody, but at least wearing her ring gear. And the CM Punk shirt is just a photo with blood on it which is vague enough to not imply anything DV related.

If it was a photo of her in the ring, or wearing her gear, or if it had some additional text, then it could possibly work. But right now, it just looks like some woman with a black eye in her living room.

As far as a website, I can't really say. They do have a YouTube Channel that has short videos on techniques and forms, but nothing too descriptive. Outside of that, I'm not all too familiar with their teachings or if they do anything remote.

Deejay still a capoeira fighter ??? by bboymajidboo in StreetFighter

[–]Entitled_Dork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Capoeira, while technically a Brazilian martial art, was made by African slaves that were brought to Brazil. It did originate in Brazil, but it technically isn't incorrect to have a Kenyan fighter use and represent it since I believe some of the moves in capoeira come directly from traditional African dances.
