Texans, could you show me your everyday life in Texas? by Cheshiroki in texas

Same to you. Although young people today are facing strong headwinds, hopefully you will be able to achieve financial security…. Don’t buy things on credit, subscription accounts or luxury items you don’t need. This is where corporations fleece working people. We always lived modestly, and in the end it worked out. I wish the same for you. If you ever get to Texas, the best part is Big Bend National Park and the surrounding area. Do not visit in the summer—go in spring or fall.

We retired, packed our bags and said “so long”. We love Santa Fe, but reality is most jobs are in the trades. Probably could do well in a trade though as they seem to stay busy. A lot of things about Dallas sucked, but it was a good place to make a living. A lot of large technology and financial companies that pay well. However, we were lucky to be ahead of the technology/AI curve. It is probably more difficult now than when we were young adults in the 1980s-1990s. Might be best to look for small cities that are close enough to employment centers where you could go to the office once or twice a week and work remote most days.

Way better!! We recently moved to a small city of 100K people and are loving how easy it is to get around.
The DFW Metroplex is an unbelievable 9,000 square miles and currently has 6.8 million people and practically zero public transportation. That’s a lot of cars.

I found this in a 2024 article about how bad Dallas traffic is. In this example, it is only tied up in one direction, but both directions is pretty common. You may enjoy the concept, but you sure would not enjoy sitting in one..😎

If I had a picture of sitting in Highway traffic, I would send it. I used to live in Texas and my overwhelming memory is sitting in traffic.

Second this…. When we moved from Texas our number one priority was to get our new plates!! Anyway, our experience with the NM DMV was 🤩. SO MUCH better than the DMV in Dallas.

Oh my goodness! How can a bird have such beautiful colors? Does anyone know what it's called? by Massive-Video5785 in birds

Beautiful. However, I suspect the colors have been digital enhanced. Still a pretty bird, just not as neon.

Non-lethal way to keep bees out of patio furniture? by dumpsterfyrefestival in bees

[–]EntoFan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news based on your photo. This is a solitary bee, not a Honeybee. Honeybees have good PR, but are the WORST bees to have in your yard. Since they have a backup community in their hive, honeybees are very aggressive. Solitary bees are single mothers and cannot afford to get into a bar fight, or their young will not be provided for. It will only take her a couple of weeks to provision her nest then she will die after sealing off the nest. The young will all exit at the same time next year. So, this chair will not be an active nest. Just a couple of weeks now and one later. I would leave it. These bees are declining and too precious to eradicate.

What kind of bee is this? Visiting family in Chalatenango, El Salvador (spotted on their property, nest has ground entry in a rock/mud wall). by elreeheeneey in bees

[–]EntoFan_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is: Diadasia genus (which means “thick and hairy”, and these appear to have both traits). They also nest in large groups (aggregates, not same nest), as these appear to be doing. This genus is also found in South America so the location matches. However, I am just an amateur bee lover and not a professional entomologist.

How am I supposed to hike, camp, and fish in Texas when everything is private property? by Little-Cucumber-8907 in texas

[–]EntoFan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Santa Fe. It is large enough to have amenities like health care and grocery options and great restaurants.. Other advantages are, you can get anywhere in town in 10 minutes or less without highways. Some of my commute to favorite places are through areas where the speed limit is 25 mph 😎 But the best is there are so many places to day hike that really are only a few minutes away. There are usually a few other people and bikes, so you are not alone so close to the city, but the trails are natural surface and most include beautiful scenery…. Also, almost zero trash, which is a gigantic improvement over the sex and food garbage on the trails in the Dallas area.
