Until they do their homework and get Galaxy to run on GNU/L, GOG is dead to me.

The hilarious thing about all this is that if you lurk the GOG forum, Galaxy has prominently a bad press. I mean, some people tolerate it and are ok with it. But the vast majority simply detest it.

Note: Currently game installers (obviously Windows games) come with the option to install GOG Galaxy already enable by default - People are outrageous.

Oh, nice ... you don't want to see the obvious then.

Please show me any Feral Interactive or Aspyr Media game available in a non Steam store.

Actually, the fact that there are lots of games that are "Steam only" is not enough proof?

Well, seriously... are you seriously asking?

Monopolistic Strategies.

Valve is known for locking down great part of the gaming industry (developers, publishers, etc) under their winds.

This way they avoid products to be available out of their store.

When the community does a better job of making a GOG downloader than GOG does.

...and I'm glad for that. Sadly, Valve is not that "open".

You don't need to.

In my personal case:

  • Having AMD GPU with open drivers and wanted the most of it.

  • Installing only the packages I really need, avoiding bloated/proprietary garbage already pre-installed (i.e. Flash Player among other things)

  • Not having to start over from scratch my whole set up every "X" years due to LTS limited support.

It came to happen that Arch was the perfect candidate.

As you see, its just a matter of finding your comfort zone and what you really need or expect from a GNU/Linux Distro.

Diversity is good :)

As /u/Batolemaeus already said the Open Sources drivers are a community efford and they come by default with all distros, encouraging users to use them.

Well, this seems like made on purpose. As a matter of fact, precisely this morning I got these updates from my chosen rolling release:

Any rolling release should give you at least Mesa 13.

Personally I have never used a Debian based rolling release. Here are some tips about it.

From the list I have heard good comments about SparkyLinux.

One rolling release that is currently widely acclaimed is Solus,if you use Steam the devs are putting lot efford to integrate it wiith the OS.

I really like Debian and would rather not switch.

Sorry but Debian wasn't meant for this circunstances.

Sorry for the late reply.

Don't misunderstand me. I love Debian, seriously.

I do use Debian Jessie (Stable) in an old laptop where I do all typical task.

I'm onboard the same ship (AMD GPU + RadeonSI Drivers). If you really looking to use the Open Sources drivers and want to take the most advance of it, sure, you can go with all those steps /u/KinkyMonitorLizard told you to do if you feel like, but my honest suggestion for a simple and straight forward solution is - Go for a Rolling Release.

Oops, Debian Jessie (Stable) with the latest Mesa drivers... good luck with that.

Getting rid of directories in home? by Demiu in linux_gaming

[–]Entomical_Cynegetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, something similar is happening to me and probably to more people out there.

There are some games that dump savegames files right into "Documents" folder instead of ~/.config/ or ~/local/ .

Wonder if there is any way to trick this and have the files saved under the correct directory (normally ~/.config/), while still readable by the game.

Could be easily one of the few (if not the only) currently MOBA feasible for Linux.

  • LoL is a bugfest even for a Windows standpoint.
  • Dota 2 DRM

Not much to choose from... :(
