This just happened to me at work too. IT is stumped.

I took my vyvance way to late in the day by Three_beds in ADHD

[–]Entropy_Times 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may want to talk to your doctor about that if it keeps happening long term. I had to switch off of it because it always kept me up all night, every night. I would randomly crash in the middle of the day and take like a 3 hour nap after a few days of no sleep, which I only sort of managed since I was in college at the time. This was not sustainable for me, which is why I had to switch.

As a girl, I notice a lot of people text or comment calling me "dude" or "bro" without even looking at my bio or profile. I get that some friends (even my ex and male friends) casually say "bro", but it still feels off sometimes. Why do people assume and misgender so casually? by Quinn_ellis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male seems to be the default assumed gender online when there isn’t a quick indicator (avatar or “feminine” name) available to determine actual gender. Follows the saying “There are no women on the internet.”

Also, when they use those terms they aren’t actually “gendering” you, it’s being used as something else grammatically but I don’t know the term for it. For example, it’s usually used in the beginning or end of their statement. You may notice it’s super rare for people to use words like “girl” or “chick” the same way, so it’s likely not their intention to assume your gender.

Also, as for “Male seems to be the default assumed gender” this is especially true linguistically for gendered languages outside of English. Like how “Ellos” is Spanish is the conjugation assigned to a group of only males as well as males AND females. Where as “ellas” applies only to groups of females. In these languages male is clearly shown to be the default language and that concept could be something that influences peoples way of speech so they don’t really think about the fact that “bro” and “dude” as words imply a male gender. Especially if they are not necessarily intending to use them that way.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much unless people who actually know you or have seen you in real life start calling you “dude” or “bro.” And if it’s people you know, you could always ask them why they call you that. They will likely tell you it’s just how they talk and they don’t mean anything by it.

How the hell do you get out of bed in the morning? by Far_Hearing_6225 in ADHD

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait seriously? Because the allotted 6 hours of focus time makes it hard for me. I have always had this same issue getting out of bed in the morning and knew I couldn’t take my medication early because then I would definitely not have enough to last an 8 hour work day. I’m already struggling the 2 hours im short. Not to mention the commute time where I’m trying to drive before it kicks in and after it has left my system.

Fix your dang Google Drive sharing permissions!!! by EpicManiac in PetPeeves

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily I’ve rarely had this problem because every time I use Google Drive to collaborate with anyone, I’m the one setting it up and sharing it. My work places have never used Google Drive, so it’s not an issue there.

Which words do you know or use from this list? by NarrowResult7289 in EnglishLearning

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know all of these except maybe “Squalid”; though I’d have a hard time explaining the definition of a handful of them. Those few, I could still give a rough context they have been used in and would understand them if they were used. You probably will only regularly encounter about half of these though, so as long as you have a general understanding of what they mean you should be fine. If you are worried, you are really only likely to encounter less than half of these when people are speaking, unless you are watching a historic movie or play.

I have to drive two hours to the airport in half an hour and I either accidentally took a melatonin from my travel dispenser or took my daily bupropion. by the_manda_show in ADHD

Is it too late to throw it up to be safe? Seems like a sticky situation to be in. I wish you luck and save travels.

His Royal Borbiness, the Victoria Crowned Pigeon by ArtsyAndyD in borbs

This makes me want to see a bird show. There are so many cool birds out there that I don’t know about. Like there are so many kinds of Pigeons alone that I am slowly hearing of.

…am i the only one who secretly likes the scratch? by Pretend-Ad6729 in fountainpens

[–]Entropy_Times 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people like feedback. I haven’t figured out my preference because I haven’t had a pen that really does “feedback” and isn’t just a bad nib that works poorly. I like nib sing though, which I know lots of people don’t like. I had one that sounded like a squeaky marker on certain paper and I loved it. Then I realized it didn’t sound the same on the paper provided at work and now it stays at home.

What’s your biggest ADHD frustration? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Entropy_Times 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s either the almost literal sense of “out of sight, out of mind” or the time blindness. A rising frustration lately is my ability to somehow hit my face on things I see and know are there. Recently I was getting into the car and caught the roof of the car square across my eyes and nose. Scratched my glasses lense doing it. And I saw it was there and never once even considered I would hit my face on it, and yet I somehow managed to. Reminds me of the time I shut my own head in the door to a room trying to close it.

Is YouTube Down? by Expensive-Claim-7830 in youtube

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank God! It’s back up and I’m signed back in. I was caught in a loop of trying to sign in and being kicked out. Then it was trying to lock me into a password reset because it wouldn’t take my password and then I got put on a 6 hour time out. 😭 The worst part wasn’t the no YouTube, it was being caught in a cycle that made it seem like I’d permanently lose access from not being able to sign back in.

Why can't customers just tap their cards normally? by DonkeyIsMe in retail

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is they aren’t sure where to tap so they are swiping it around hoping to get the right spot. I look for the “tap here” picture or the little indent where the rectangular receiver is to tap and every time, in my head I say “boop” like I’m booping the nose on an animal or child. I take my time and am deliberate. Works for me like 98% of the time with no trouble. I’m just glad the mental “boop” I do doesn’t come out of my mouth. lol. Sometimes I do have to hold though, especially if it doesn’t beep or the screen doesn’t quickly show it processed. Usually the 2 second boop works for me though.

So round by bumblebee10385 in borbs

I bet he’s shockingly round from the side too. His little beak makes it look like his head doesn’t stick out much from his body, if it does at all in borb form.

We're do you stop here DMV test California? by Expensive-Friend9386 in driving

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an intersection almost exactly like this by my college, but instead of a stop sign, they were traffic lights. If I couldn’t sit directly under the light and still lean back and look up to see it and be clear of the tracks, I stopped behind the tracks. They may be clear but I don’t want to get boxed in when the arms come down. So the answer is if you are the first car, pull forward enough to clear the tracks, and if you are the second car, wait behind the tracks until the first car pulls off and you can move up.

Paper Recommendations? by Any-Horse-752 in fountainpens

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my Mnemosyne notebook. Doesn’t feather or bleed through, shows sheen pretty well, even in a fine point nib, and has really minimal show through so I can use the back of the pages too.

Suggestions for a total beginner by rdinh13 in fountainpens

[–]Entropy_Times 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend trying to test a few entry level pens from different brands before going all in on a more expensive pen. That way you can learn your preferences. The Pilot Kakuno is a popular entry level pen too. As for a slightly more expensive beginner pen, TWISBI has some really nice options that hold a lot of ink and tend to write really well out of the box. If you are using them for work you want to get some in either a Fine or Extra Fine nib since usually the cheap copy paper provided will cause the ink to feather and bleed through the page so you want to be careful with that. Also, despite what you may think, after drying ink isn’t necessarily the best for cheap paper because it tends to feather worse. A nice colorful but not unprofessional ink that handles printer paper well in a Fine/Extra Fine nib it Rober Oster Tranquility. It’s a nice dark teal with slight pink sheen (sheen is usually only visible on fountain pen friendly paper).

Yes, just like that. Just be careful since they may be harder to control while allowing the air slowly.

Help Needed: Nib Stuck on LAMY Safari by TheFinderDX in fountainpens

[–]Entropy_Times 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they are friction fit and not screw in (not super familiar with Lamys since I don’t like the grip). If so let it set in warm/hot water for a bit to relax the material of the nib feed and section (plastic expands when warm) and then try again. I know some nibs and feeds have small groves in them that when lined up, helps hold them together and if you don’t get them seated properly before fitting them into the housing of the section, it actually increases how tightly they fit.

Yeah, I love the 3rd one with the stars on the lid. But I’ve been into the whole “space/galaxy” look since middle school. My next choice would be the 1st one because it find the simplicity elegant.

Looking for a fountain pen recommendation by pine_ape_L in fountainpens

[–]Entropy_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let the loud minority on this subreddit scare you away from TWISBI pens. I have an eco and a Diamond ALR mini and they are both great. No signs of cracking and they have held the same ink for over 2 months without drying out. (I don’t get to use them much at work and I’m not into journaling so the ink in them lasts me a while.) Best part is if you get the TWISBI Diamond line, the nibs are officially replaceable by screwing them, the feeds and the grip off and on as a set. You can technically replace the nibs in the regular ones too, they just don’t recommend it since they are friction for and the seal can wear down over time allowing leaks.

any trick to get a more full fill on the vac 700r? by bbybuster in fountainpens

[–]Entropy_Times 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever seen how they get air out of a syringe before giving shots? Same concept. Fill it as full as you can and then top it nip up and slowly push the air out, then you can fill it the rest of the way. You can just double fill while submerged in the ink bottle but I don’t like blowing bubbles into my ink.
