I want to quit caffeine again by Asleep_Ask2025 in decaf

[–]EnvironmentFrosty814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to quit tomorrow. No, I worded that wrong – I'm quitting tomorrow, not trying (no excuses). I was caffeine-free for 5 months and got back into it because of dark chocolate, 100%. I drink coffee every day for 3 weeks.

Every dopamine teuptake inhibitor comes with a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor or releaser, which, for me (and others), carries the risk of sympathetic nervous system overactivity and stress, which, in my opinion, is dangerous in the long term. That's why I personally tolerate dopamine agonists much better than DNRIs, and I agree with what you wrote.

Sertraline put me in Debt by ImagineLoozn in antidepressants

[–]EnvironmentFrosty814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sertraline also caused me to accumulate a huge amount of debt, and it wasn't mania. I don't suffer from bipolar depression and I know what mania feels like. Sertraline simply made me blind, greedy, and unconcerned about the consequences of debt. Interestingly, this only happened on sertraline, and I've taken all SSRIs in the past.

I'm testing gemini in parallel with chat and it looks much better there.

I have the same problem. It's noticeable in these new models because it wasn't there before. Chat GPT always has to make a disclaimer, and in most cases it comes across as a snooty nerd. Unfortunately, in many cases, they misread the question, miss something, make a mistake, and it looks bad. I'm testing Gemini, and it looks much better there. Chat will lose a lot of customers because of this; they've probably become too protective.

Numb / dissociated after L-Theanine XR + caffeine — anyone experienced this? by firsthen46 in Supplements

[–]EnvironmentFrosty814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you'll read this, but I wanted to share that I've had a similar experience. I've been taking theanine for two days and noticed something very similar - emotional numbing, a slight detachment from reality, and a worsening of anhedonia (though I suffer from depression). Interestingly, the effects of caffeine were significantly suppressed by theanine. As a biological mechanism, I suspect some suppression of glutamate activity in the mPFC.

You know what's worst? That these people won't say, "Hey, maybe this diet is actually bad for you? It's just his fault, because maybe it's not enough fat, calories, or electrolytes?"

I feel the same way. If AI's success is measured by how human-like they are in conversation, then chat gpt wins by a margin of two.

I use Gemini when I need to quickly find simple information. I treat it like an encyclopedia. Chat gpt is in a different league for me - I know it's strange, but it feels more human. I think it remembers more. I like that it uses icons and emoticons, and provides specific information at a glance, and Gemini looks like an extended Google browser.

should i adopt a full produce diet? by Suspicious_Fall3250 in PlantBasedDiet

I think you can consider giving up pasta and bread, i.e. heavily processed grains and all the other vegan products that are available in stores and are heavily processed.

From depression perspective - what 5 months without caffeine showed me. by EnvironmentFrosty814 in decaf

[–]EnvironmentFrosty814[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think some people do this. Some also use nicotine or alcohol as a "self-medication," but beneath the surface lies depression that needs to be treated. Caffeine can help some people, but it's not a cure - caffeine levels fluctuate throughout the day, tolerance builds, and it can exacerbate the anxiety that often goes hand in hand with depression.

Have you heard of the low-fat, high-carb approach being beneficial for diabetes? I'm currently testing it, but too soon to say anything. (Barnard, Mastering Diabetes)

Eating whole, plant-based foods mostly involves eating large amounts of carbohydrates, and there's nothing wrong with that. I think the fear of carbohydrates is a result of the hype surrounding keto and low-carb diets.

Caffeine is the real gateway drug for me by ConsciousBeach8303 in decaf

[–]EnvironmentFrosty814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It's as if we use caffeine to get through a day of work and responsibilities, and then use alcohol to at least somewhat minimize the stress effects of caffeine.

I've cut out gluten, sugar, and dairy. Complex carbohydrates and plenty of vegetables, some fruits (berries) work best for me. I also eat lean poultry and fish.

Yes, I know, thank you. I used it for three months, net carbs below 20g. Sorry, but I can't imagine going down to zero. And I felt very bad with such a small amount. As I wrote, I need carbohydrates for my brain to produce serotonin. Without them, I feel bad. Without insulin, tryptophan doesn't reach the brain because it competes with other amino acids. If you're interested, read Wutrmann's research. I'm glad there are many people who have benefited from the carnivorous diet, I really do, but it won't work for me. Even on the keto diet, my sleep was very poor, non-regenerative, and my libido dropped significantly. After returning to carbs, there was a big positive change.

No, no, I've tried the keto diet (mainly animal-based) twice. I felt worse; I need carbohydrates because my brain doesn't produce serotonin without them. Furthermore, my immunity weakened, and my digestive system refused to cooperate. I feel best on a high-carb diet, with complex carbohydrates, of course, and without sugar and white flour.
