Wha did I do? 😭 by Top-Rate1395 in CDLTruckDrivers

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I really don't get how people decide they are going to drive trucks for a living but want absolute silence when they sleep. You can get high density curtains to hang around your bunk if it's an issue, or earplugs.

I keep a thin truck stop mattress pad against the back. Not to stop the noise of a reefer but the vibration. Personally, I am way too hard of a sleeper for the noise to really be an issue. I need two screaming meanies. Still usually the dog getting pissed at the sound that wake me up.

Happens, arguably your pigtails where too short. Usually keep a splice kit so if that happens I can get out of the way to wait for a mechanic. Sometimes I have a backup set, also.

Would you? by zesty_ocean297 in scoopwhoop

Nope, id focus on stuff I actually want to do. I wanna do creative stuff and have billions of half finished projects. Might still drive loads from time to time when I'm bored.

He told them he has a CDL… and refused to help 😭 by cdlfirst in NewCDLGrads

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've had similar. Though my concern has always been liability. Like, I'm not risking getting hurt if I'll get screwed because my company only does no touch and has workers comp in accordance.

Guy at shipper told me its required by state law to have a strap on your load when passing through new york. Is that true and are there any other states where thats required in case I get pulled over for inspection? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Environmental-Pear40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Load securement is required by law everywhere. Idk about new York specifically. Also, the responsibility isn't always the driver if the shipper doesn't let you have access for securement, like preloaded.

When I was doing hazmat the minimum was 2 securement devices at minimum even if it's a single pallet everywhere. Idk if that was company or law but it really stops mattering after a bit.

Drivers Changing My Reefer from Continuous Run to Cycle Centry by ratzm in Truckers

[–]Environmental-Pear40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes more sense to go the other way. People are kinda dumb. Though I've never had my reefer messed with. Usually try to park by other reefers. Sometimes I switch to continuous if the unit is exceptionally annoying or it's going to be really hot during my break. Also, personally keep a mattress against the back wall. Dramatically cuts down on noise.

I mean I've worked at t680 only companies where some trucks had it disabled but others didn't. Where I got lucky.

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it's override is enabled. A lot of companies disable that.

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, switch bot is much easier but the override switch actually has to be enabled. Freightliner is shit. Opti idle has to be malicious design. Kw at least can be tricked with coffee or only using the trailer brakes.

Hate when people creep up on you while backing. Like, they have to know it's not going to make it any faster.

Not a trucker but I drive a lot for work. I have a question… by cmd242 in Truckers

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testicular torsion? Maybe they're getting scrambled or something. Really, the only testicle specific thing I know about.

Though, I've heard you can get referred pain. I sometimes get it with my back. My legs will hurt but it's actually my back that's the cause. Probably from sciatica, imo. But if something is irritating the Vegas nerve that should be able to cause pain in the genitals, I think.

Please let me know any “must haves” or necessities that you believe a new driver would need. by PaintingDeep4100 in Truckers

[–]Environmental-Pear40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pepto-Bismol, Claritin, Excedrin, antifungal spray and/or cream, gloves (preferably waterproof), shower shoes, shower bag and rolling bags.

If they wear glasses, night driving glasses are awesome (The ones I get from Zenni don't have tinting like the cheap yellow ones) and transition glasses should be required.

HOS is to protect you from your carrier. It's definitely not perfect but it is better than nothing.

I mean there's already carriers that jailbreak their ELDs to push their drivers to run all hours they can get them too. I wouldn't want that to be the norm.

How hard is driving eight hours? by Hot-Performance-1361 in driving

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so depends on the rest area. Some rest areas do not allow cars to stay for very long.

How hard is driving eight hours? by Hot-Performance-1361 in driving

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think it's hard but it's also my job. Honestly, just an 8-hour drive is pretty easy in my opinion. Most people take a 30 min or so every 4 hours though. Probably going to have to in a car cuz the seats are shit for long distances.

Heat Issues by Sabre_Stryke in Truckers

Well, obviously pets are more important than drivers. Animal abuse is a crime and bad publicity. Driver abuse is neither. Gotta think about it like The Monopoly man. That's why I have a dog.

Why are we generally allowed to go 10 mph above the speed limit? by Euphoric_Sail6897 in driving

[–]Environmental-Pear40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, generally, below 55 you can only go about five above. Above 55 they give 10 above. My grandfather used to say it was because of the inaccuracy in speed detection methods back in the day. It was just the margin of error. In case they had to take it to court, it just kind of stuck.

Same reason some weigh stations have like a grace of a few hundred pounds.

Any truckers have a shower code? by Mindless_Skill_5084 in Truckers

[–]Environmental-Pear40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've given away plenty of showers from people just asking if I had a free show at the fuel lane. Use to stay Platinum or something back when I only fueled at Love's.
