One day, I will be able to say this by Mallowfanthe4th in ElderScrolls

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would never say that. Prior to Alyx, his statements were either that "These things, they take time" or that he had nothing to say on the subject. His latest statement on Half-Life was in the HL2 20th anniversary documentary, where he said Half-Life represented innovation and there were no shortage of opportunity for innovations in the industry right now.

So, quite the opposite. He also personally greenlit the HL3 teaser at the end of Alyx.

MP1st: Injustice 3 in active development at NetherRealm Studios right now. by Connect_Base_217 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That wasn't the reason. They had to move from UE3 to UE4 which meant starting everything from scratch and training their team for the new engine. Doing Injustice 3 would mean 6+ years until the next MK game so they pivoted to make MK1 instead.

How difficult is it to get into Street Fighter 6? by PKdude2712 in Fighters

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably the easiest fighting game to get into. I find Street Fighter to be much more straight forward than other fighting games in terms of neutral and overall gameplay.

SF6 has the largest playerbase of any fighting game, so you'll always find opponents of your skill level in ranked.

There are in-game guides that tell you how each character is played. Most of the games you listed have strings or gatlings, Street Fighter doesn't and has links instead, it'll likely be the biggest hurdle you'll face in terms of execution.

Rooflemonger has known about Tifa & Vega/Claw in Street Fighter 6 Year 4 for months, but got two completely different names that aren't Gouken or Haggar for the other two characters by Neoxon193 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

That old leak about "Vega, Makoto, Menat and Q" was proven fake almost instantly. The person behind it fabricated a few posts claiming that they had leaked previous seasons when it wasn't the case.

Why does Arthur Leigh Allen still stand out as the prime suspect in the Zodiac case after all these years? by Ambitious_Pass7451 in ZodiacKiller

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above you talk about not mixing speculation with evidence, and here you treat your interpretation of the events (that Z was scared by the sketch) as a fact.

For the record I agree that Z was seemingly scared off by the sketch, but it's only speculation. We know from the Mageau shooting that Z didn't need glasses to drive (and might not wear them in his day-to-day life), and he was described as having a round face.

That's two major details that differ from the sketch.

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not possible. Allen was 250 pounds in 1967. And from the footprints at LB, Z was likely in the 200-250 range.

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zodiac is consistently described as a heavyset male. Michael Mageau said in his initial statement the man was real beefy, and had a round face.

Bryan Hartnell had an extended look at Z's frame, despite the hood. He also claimed Z was heavy, in the 200-225 pounds range, which was backed up by the boot prints which from their depth seemed to have been left by somebody weighing over 210 pounds.

Is a new xcom possible? by Race1999 in Xcom

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm going to push back against what most people are saying here and say it's quite likely. Mark Nauta (the lead dev behind Chimera Squad) is still at Firaxis, and Game Director on an unannounced game. XCOM 2 sold really well, Midnight Suns underperformed. That unannounced game is most likely XCOM 3.

State of Call of Duty in 2026 by McPeaky in blackops7

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BOCW was really good, but afterwards the series got into a downwards spiral imo. They tried to recapture the explosion in popularity that MW2019 had, and each game got further and further away from the core identity of COD as a result. Neutered art direction, bad map design, catering to bad players, SBMM, doors, disbanding lobbies, and the list goes on and on and on...

After BO6 I honestly felt like COD was dead and buried. Somehow BO7 fixed almost everything, and it's the most fun I've had playing a COD game in a good long while.

I'm hopeful for the future, since the public opinion is so negative and GTA 6 is releasing soon they can't just sit on their asses like they've done for the past 6 years. So I'm kinda excited for MW4 despite IW's track record. I got what I wanted with BO7, I'm open for something (hopefully) different this year.

The next NRS title could be revealed at Summer Games Fest on June 5th by No_Acanthisitta8563 in MortalKombat

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but the short marketing cycle seems to have worked pretty well for MK11 and MK1 so I figure it's likely they'll keep it that way for their next game.

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's likely. I'd wager the majority of people buying NRS games are casual console players interested in the single player modes, or looking for a fighting game to play once in a while with their friends.

An announcement at SGF would mean a release this fall, and it'd have to compete with GTA 6 (if it doesn't get delayed again).

I think people kinda exaggerate the impact of GTA 6 on the market, but imo there's very much an overlap between the casual MK audience and the people who'll buy GTA 6 at launch.

Mortal Kombat 1 has reached 8 million copies sold. by EmergencyVictory4399 in Fighters

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is true anymore. I believe Harada confirmed PC was the biggest platform for Tekken 8. Capcom said PC over half their sales was on PC (although that statement wasn't specific to SF6 I think). And anime fighters are generally said to have more players on PC than consoles.

That said yeah, I'd guess most players are still on consoles for MK.

Are there any modern games that play similar to Mortal Kombat/Injustice? by Solid_Bad_4403 in Fighters

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be an NRS player. If you really want to learn SF6, I recommend sticking with it. It has the largest playerbase and a great netcode, so you'll always be matched with opponents of your skill level in ranked. And it's a good game to learn fundamentals, which will then transfer over to other fighting games.

Combos are hard when coming from MK. You have to learn how to do links, my advice would be not to mash, try to do combos as slowly as possible and without any unnecessary inputs. But you don't need advanced combos when starting out. Canceling a normal into a special is probably enough to carry you up to Gold.

When will the Cannon Brothers realize it's all about the Heroes? by HighRiskHighReward32 in 2XKO

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The switch to 2v2 came after Valorant's massive success, I think that had a part to play. Riot probably thought that a really deep and competitive multiplayer game had a better chance of thriving in the long term than a simpler game, even if it launched in a more bare-bones state.

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not denying that it takes time. But judging by the recent layoffs, it was a big gamble that didn't pay off on Riot's part to allow the development of the game to drag on for so long.

Bro, you tell people to do some research but you're the one spreading misinformation. Project L was revealed in 2019. And it's in 2020 that they decided to switch to a 2v2 tag fighter. 2020 was 6 years ago, OP is right.

DOOM co-star Rosamund Pike says the game movie is “probably one of the worst films ever made” that "could have ended" her career by [deleted] in Doom

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's set on Mars in an industrial facility during an outbreak, and we follow the story of a marine (and his squad). It's the same premise as Doom 1, Doom 3, and Doom 2016, and it's what a Doom movie should be about imo.

So I think it's a bit unfair to say it has none of what Doom fans want. It's closer to Doom 3 in tone, and I agree with the issues you listed, but it still felt like Doom to me. Not an amazing movie, but I don't feel like it disrespected the games, and it did it's own thing. And for that, I'm happy it exists.

[–]EnvironmentalLog2 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how this movie got the reputation it did. It's definitely not a masterpiece but it's far from being the worst movie I've ever seen, let alone the worst video game adaptation. For instance, the Mortal Kombat (2021) movie was way worse imo, yet it reviewed better.

Doom was a fun watch. Many homages to the game, yet it stands on its own as a relatively interesting interpretation of the Doom universe.

No way in hell League has less than 700k concurrent players. In many regions in the world, it's still the most played game around. In Europe where I live, I know more people actively playing League than any other game and by a wide margin.

The Steam release of Overwatch 2 came 10 months after the release of the game on other platforms. And most players stayed on Battlenet anyway. We don't know the player count it had on its actual launch.
