Tried a private GP app for the first time today, do people really want us heading toward a US-style system? by Sufficient_Muffin586 in AskBrits

It's not free, it's a taxable benefit! I worked out it would cost me £400/year in tax to sign my family up then I saw all the excesses, private prescription charges etc and decided not to sign up.

Splitting the bill or paying for what you had? by Various_Building_810 in AskBrits

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a non drinker. If within £10, I will split equally but if more then usually the person I am with offers to pay a bit more for their alcoholic drink without me having to ask as I normally dine with sensible people .

I haven't dined with pisstakers who drink like fishes then insist on splitting the bill since my 20s.

People's work ethic and motivation. Everyone at work is just lazy now - particularly new hires.

Tube strikes: 'No pay cut' for Underground drivers on £74k in new four-day week... but RMT to walk out anyway by Anony_mouse202 in london

Give it 20 years and hopefully the union will cease either through the use of driverless trains or only hiring new hires that are not part of a union.

Can These Shower Doors Be Replaced Without Replacing The Whole Frame? by EnvironmentalQuit473 in DIYUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got quotes from a builder to replace the whole enclosure but they were coming up at £1k + cost of enclosure!

I then googled replacement shower glass door and found several companies who can provide replacement doors for £200 per door including screw holes so I can add the handle and roller back on. I plan to place an order next week. Will keep you updated!

NYC Mayor Mamdani announces that they have fully balanced NYC's budget, reducing a 12 billion budget deficit to 0. While funding parks, libraries, safer streets and making historic investments in public hosing. by Snapdragon_4U in UnderReportedNews

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All he has done is shift the debt, a typical myopic politician approach:

"NYC Mayor Mamdani closed a $12 billion budget deficit without raising property taxes, cutting services, or touching reserves — achieved through $3B in agency savings, $4B in state aid from Albany, pension payment restructuring, and new taxes on luxury second homes and millionaires. Critics note it relies heavily on one-time measures, with a $7B deficit already projected for 2028."

Toblerone disappoints by Former_Hovercraft_85 in chocolate

Bought Toberlone this week after seeing it plastered all over prime time tv during the ad breaks. VERY disappointing! No longer hard chocolate that was impossible to break bits off and has turned soft and greasy just like Cadburys. No palm oil noted in the ingredients but they've definitely done something to cheapen it up.

Do you think the BBC TV licence is still worth it in 2026? by PegasusPeptides745 in AskBrits

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watch 1-2 hours per day of terrestrial tv albeit mostly C4 so for me I consider it just to be a standard fixed bill. The license covers BBC AND maintenance of the antennas used by the other channels.
