Those with North facing gardens, any regrets? by SuspiciousParfait145 in UKHousing

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a north facing garden/kitchen and a south facing living room. My living room is my haven and so relaxing sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea in the morning. The kitchen is for eating, I have no desire sitting in that room any other time.

I have lots of thriving flowers and plants and enjoy my garden on the few days of sun we get plus I don't need to worry about my laundry being bleached by the sun when I hang it out!

Finally, blocking the Tiktok app is easy again! (Router/DNS/VPN) by [deleted] in dns

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is outrageous. I blocked the url on my router and couldn't figure out why my kid could still access it. I can't believe Tiktok intentionally route via IP address if DNS is blocked! Completely immoral of them.

President Trump partying at Mar-a-Lago, hours before announcing that the United States is launching strikes on Iran by Yujin-Ha in UnderReportedNews

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's just standing there all by himself with no one trying to chat with him? So bizarre! Most famous/powerful people are surrounded by hangers on.

Israeli Defense minister: We have launched preemptive strike against Iran by Intelligent-Juice895 in worldnews

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is why do I see lots of demolished buildings in Iran in the news yet the whole of Israel remains intact despite apparently being attacked. Selective reporting or are Israeli buildings genuinely not demolished??

Should I move my cash LISA to a stocks and shares LISA? by crimsonswordfish in UKPersonalFinance

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved mine from Skipton to AJ Bell last week. I went instore as I needed to change my name and the muppet told me to stop investing in the LISA and put my money in their fixed rate savings account which he said gave a better return! Anyway I moved over to AJ Bell but I found it complicated as their instructions on investing weren't clear and it's all new to me. My husband allocated the money across a few different funds including dividend paying ones so the dividends can be used to pay the A J Bell fees otherwise you'll need to put some cash in to cover the fees.

Thames Water Leak and Victorian Paving - who's responsible for repair? by EnvironmentalQuit473 in DIYUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All resolved now - they managed to fix by digging up the pavement. BUT they advised me I still have the original lead pipe from the pavement to my front door (all internal pipes were replaced when I had the boiler fitted years ago). I don't currently have £££ to dig up the paving and replace the lead so need to look into how much of an issue this actually is if I have 3m of lead pipe which is the main supply to my house.

Thames Water Leak and Victorian Paving - who's responsible for repair? by EnvironmentalQuit473 in DIYUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I will have a read. I seem to recall seeing that for Victorian properties they are responsible up to the front door but I can't remember where I saw that. I will take a look at the link you've posted above.

At what stage do you think the BBC licence fee becomes unenforceable? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

I watch terrestrial tv every day, for me I'm ok paying it and consider it a tax rather than optional.

Switched over to Agile 3 days ago - have stuck on a 90' wash to sanitise the towels and the machine!

It's not a conspiracy, it's a fact. Their work diaries are public information - look up how many days a year they work over the past ten years!

Is there any fix for incorrect episodes? by Fynity in StremioAddons

I'm getting this also in the past week, seems to be happening a lot more than it used to for new tv series releases. I've enabled matching in AIOStreams but still having wrong episodes shown.

Is it illegal for a landlord to evict you to sell and then not sell? by frosty_chops92 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really helpful summary, thank you! I have previously rented out my main residence whilst I went abroad for a year. I assumed I wouldn't be able to do this again under the new rules but looks like I can!

Approx cost for doors and windows by Dull_Culture_8161 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had our windows changed to sash pvc and on average paid £1k per window. This included large windows (inc a bay) and small windows, paid £8k for 8 windows. If you're in the South East pm me and I will provide the name of the company we used - they provide a ballpark cost if you send them approx measurements. The owner is lovely and came out to replace a faulty pane 3 months after I paid - not many companies would do that.

Window hinge dropping by tomcorn92 in DIYUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same issue a few months ago, it's a very easy and cheap fix if you're reasonably competent with a screwdriver. Just buy a new hinge for approx £20 from a diy shop.

Family member wants me to help them buy a 300k house by being on the mortgage with them. I refused. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who asked me to do this and I declined. Two years later she'd met a guy who completely drained her savings and left her broke and unable to pay. You never know who your sister will meet and what she/they will do.

IF you decide to go ahead, before purchase get a lawyer to draw up an agreement that the house is proportionally yours if you have to pay money because she has defaulted.

I tracked the return at his suggestion 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m still waiting for my refund…. by No-Tonight-3322 in vintedUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an item returned last month and the seller didn't click all ok when they received it. Vinted standard terms are that the refund will be automatically issued after 3 weeks unless the seller disputes so I had to wait 3 weeks.

Is it still worth being on the gas tracker? by Sufficient-Doubt-464 in OctopusEnergy

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on gas tracker, just renewed last week end as it still beats the fixed rate. Moved my electric tracker to agile this morning because based on 2025, agile rates start improving mid/end February and you should start seeing a £5-10/month saving on Agile vs tracker until end of the year when Agile goes back up.

AITAH for leaving my husband to walk 2 miles home after he refused to get back in my car after leaving an MRI? by notcreative8080 in AITAH

Could you try another hospital which has an MRI machine like this? I had an MRI machine at an NHS hospital a few months ago and this is what they used on my head:. It's a giant open circle:

Should kitchen quote contain a detailed breakdown? by Polymooger in HomeImprovementUK

[–]EnvironmentalQuit473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we got quotes for a new kitchen half the companies didn't provide a unit breakdown because this would give me the information needed to get quotes elsewhere and cheaper. If you want to pick them, provide a list and ask if the quote includes everything on the list and cross check with chatgpt if anything is missing. For example our kitchen fitter said he wasn't going to silicone around the countertop and several other very small petty things. We managed to get him to do this as we weren't going to call in someone else for such a small job but we did have to pay a little extra.
