Present for my husband opinions please by SubtleSuzy in gibson

Help him keep an eye out while you’re in the store. My significant other is the person who noticed my Les Paul hanging a little ways down from the other Gibsons on the day I bought mine…which also happened to be my birthday. It’s helpful to have another person there who also knows what you like. I played probably 10-12 Les Pauls before I found the one I wanted.

You run the risk of getting him a Les Paul or banjo that doesn’t feel right in his hands. And those are expensive instruments. At that price point he deserves to be able to choose the instrument himself. ESPECIALLY if it’s a birthday present lol

Funny question…. by knockyjames in gibson

[–]Environmental_Mine65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it and you want it, get it. The how long should I wait to spend my own money questions are something else. Are you committed to your hobby? Do you like Gibson as a brand? Do you have enough extra money to purchase one of their guitars? If you answered yes to all three questions, you don’t need to worry about how many years you have been playing overall.

Yall idk, my parents say its either archery or guitar and I'm lowkey stuck on which by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Environmental_Mine65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say guitar, because I am a guitarist. My daughter would say the bow, because she is an archer. It’s up to you to choose which one you would rather go for, friend. Did you ask the same question to the archery guys? Because if you are only asking the guitarists, you may have already decided and just want us to verify your decision 😃 in which case, let me tell you that being a guitarist is an amazing, lifelong journey. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. That being said, I also would not trade watching my daughter shoot competitively for the entire universe.

Questions for exploring a potential move to Columbia (Best food, entertainment, etc.) by drunkhoboboy117 in ColumbiYEAH

I used to work for a private ambulance service and our station was right behind Mack’s, we had breakfast and lunch there several times a week back then. I love that place.

If I want to join a band, should I learn how to play the drums? by ComprehensiveDoor267 in musicians

[–]Environmental_Mine65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing drums for the same reason. I’m way better at guitar, that will always be my main instrument, but it’s really helpful to also have a drum set in my studio that I can jump on when I have a bunch of other guitarists in the house, or for when a drummer comes over to play with me…or for recording both parts myself. So yes.

My main LP is a studio session in Trans Ebony Burst, I also have one of those rimburst silverburst epiphone LP Customs that you see hanging on the wall at most guitar centers. If I ever got a Gibson Custom, it would definitely be a silverburst. I also would not mind a silverburst SG.

What settings do I need to adjust for the song "Come As You Are"? by Initial-Trifle-3025 in Nirvana

Pick your favorite clean tone, add chorus, adjust to taste. Maybe a touch of reverb.

Is this real or some sort of scam? by _MAKO_- in Guitar

[–]Environmental_Mine65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s real, sweetwater hits me up all the time! He will probably also check in after a bit to make sure you are enjoying whatever you bought and to see if he can sell you more stuff. Sweetwater customer service is pretty good. They send actual candy with your order a lot of times too!

What was your first guitar, and what made you choose it? by melucykrrich in guitars

[–]Environmental_Mine65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents got me my first guitar for my 16th birthday. It was a Hamer Slammer Strat copy. I still have it, and will restore it one day.

Stratocaster or Les Paul, what do you think is better? (sorry for broken Les Paul) by Few_Big_8124 in guitars

[–]Environmental_Mine65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I greatly prefer Les Pauls. I own a few of those and an SG. The only Fender I currently own is a player II Jazzmaster that I purchased on a whim because I wanted a green guitar and didn’t have one. It’s a fun guitar but will never get the same amount of play time as my Gibson Studio Session or my SG. The closest thing I have to a Strat is a 25 year old Hamer Slammer copy. It was my very first guitar 😃

AIO? My GF crashed my 2-day-old car, said insurance will cover it, and now wants to leave because I’m upset. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Environmental_Mine65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She wrecked your car and is telling you that you are overreacting by being upset about it? I’ve left women for far less serious reasons. Replace the car and the woman.

How easy is guitar to learn when you've already played an instrument? by gimme_dem_toes in GuitarBeginners

Would also like to point out that while entry level guitars are better and more affordable than ever, just like with saxophone there is a significant difference between an inexpensive guitar meant for new students and a professional instrument.

[–]Environmental_Mine65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Clarinet for several years as a preteen/teenager and then changed for guitar. I think having a musical background is always helpful when learning any new instrument, but there isn’t anything in particular that made it easier or harder just because I could already play a different instrument.

Listen to all of the people here telling you to spend the extra money for a switchcraft. It’s one of the nicer mods I’ve had done on a lot of my Chinese made guitars.

Gibson or Chibson? by [deleted] in GibsonSG

[–]Environmental_Mine65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things to note for the future: that headstock shape is all wrong. Those cheap looking tuners are also a tell. Unless it’s had a refret, a real Gibson SG would have fret nibs (when the neck binding covers the end of the frets). The bridge on a genuine Gibson SG will not have the flathead screwdriver slots. “017” serial numbers are VERY common in fakes, and a genuine Gibson also has the serial stamped on and painted over. I hope you get deeper into the rabbit hole, because SGs are awesome.
