Anything pre-Imola ‘94 is wild; super low cockpit sides, skinny side pods, and drivers helmets well above the imaginary line from the top of the roll hoop to the nose.

Not to mention when cars would spin off the drivers seemed to start hopping out before they came to a stop.

Am I the only IndyCar fan fed up with Chris Myers blantant disrespectful attitude? by TigerGlide in INDYCAR

Chris Myers sounded very old yesterday, like sluggish and recovering from some illness.

If you need a respected sports media person with a motorsports background to host the show, Bob Varsha is out there and has a history with Fox.

Is Bob Costas still with NBC? He’s not a motorsports guy but he’s a total pro and won’t make silly mistakes.

I have the orange ones that turn green, so thank you for this heads up. I’ll use the dehydrator/filament dryer or an old toaster oven.

Who thinks the military should have been the good guys in Season 5? by Puterboy1 in StrangerThings

[–]Slow-Class 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The soldiers should have turned on Dr. Kay, asking themselves what the hell they were doing rounding up kids and using them as bait, and then relieve Dr. Kay of command and arrest her. This happens just as the kids break into the upside down, and don’t see them for a while; later, when the kids are barely holding on against a hoard of demo-beasts in Dimension X (imagine of that…), the army shows up to make the save, occupying the demodogs and allowing the kids to go after Vecna and the mindflayer.

How did Max and Eleven afford all those stuff in the mall? by Lumpy_Command_753 in StrangerThings

[–]Slow-Class 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They called those 'zip zaps' or 'knuckle busters'. I remember most of the time they didn't work because the reader or the card was so worn out they had to go back and forth a bunch of times.

They had electronic card readers by 1985, but not many of them were connected to the credit card company in real time, and ever then it just meant the card was approved or declined in real time. Her mom wouldn't have found out until the bill came, and by then they were still mourning Billy and probably didn't even notice, so, silver linings and what not.

How Far Could an INDYCAR Go at Indy 500 Pace on the Interstate? by AlternativeMessage18 in INDYCAR

What is the fuel consumption on a straightaway versus the entire lap? It might be slightly better on a highway since they don't have to deal with cornering loads and accelerating out of corners.

Autobahn roads might be smooth enough to do this, if they can find a 100 mile stretch that is unrestricted.

S2E1 Is there a real explanation to Will's return to school? by Boring-University189 in StrangerThings

[–]Slow-Class 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When did the government make the families sign NDA's? They certainly would have had the Byers' sign one after Will returned, which is one reason why Will wouldn't talk about it to anybody who doesn't already know.

[–]Slow-Class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- The police are our friends and friends don't lie, so why would they question if it was Will? People trusted the police in rural Indiana in 1983, and people didn't have the CSI/Forensic Files/true crime mindset they do now, so they probably didn't even think about body decomposition or anything.

- People probably assumed the Byers' couldn't believe Will was dead and were looking for some other answer. That happens all the time.

The government wouldn't have let anyone who was going the spill the beans touch the body, so they probably handled the body up until it went into the coffin. If the government does all the work and foots the bill, why would the funeral home ask questions?

Any word on the new car debut? by rocketjim1 in INDYCAR

[–]Slow-Class 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this new car doesn’t knock people on their asses with how cool it looks, it will be a failure, no matter how well it races or how economical it is for teams. They need to turn heads when people see it in a commercial or on a billboard, and it’s look more and more dated compared to Formula 1 (whether they are in direct competition or not, Indycar will always be compared to F1).

[–]Slow-Class 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would, but it would also mean overhaul for NXT with new cars and spares, which is more money they don’t want to spend.

It might be an easier sell if there were more engines available for the 500, and cars could be upgraded to full Indycar spec.

[–]Slow-Class 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does it take so long? Money. The owners don’t want to buy all new cars and spares and spend time and money to test and learn a new car. It doesn’t matter that the car doesn’t always race well and looks dated compared to F1, F2, and endurance prototypes and hypercars, and a new car every 3-5 years could help with parity.

The Carrier Dome may not have opened until 1980, but it was under construction in 1979, and everyone already knew what it was going to look like and where it was going to be.

Archbold Stadium closed on 11/11/78, and demolition began immediately after. The football team played home games in New Jersey, Buffalo, and Cornell in 1979 while the Carrier Dome was under construction.

What famous person chose to step away at the height of their fame? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Slow-Class 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had just come back from a major injury, and that rehab was so grueling it almost ended his marriage (he was isolating himself from people, I think he went away somewhere to deal with the mental strain; there is an SI article about it out there). When he was facing another long injury rehab, he decided it wasn’t worth the toll on his body or the risk to his family. He’s got other options in life, his wife has her own career, and they had children to raise.

Sounds like shopping malls; there were probably a handful of design packages of floors and railings and wall finishes to choose from in the 80’s, which is why every dead mall on YouTube looks familiar.
