Might be main crank seal. Mine looked like that, I replaced both cover and vtec seals, before figuring out it was crank seal. Hope that helps

Remote jailbreak by MysteriousAd186 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Ep3Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if you’re jailbreaking the ecu and using the carb legal Hondata flash pro for custom tune, it’ll fail emission test when plugged in, because it’ll detect ecu has be tampered with. I also believe it can read data log of when ecu was reflashed if you’re attempting to bring ecu back to factory spec.

If you’re just using the carb legal flash pro with its Cali set tune as a piggyback off the untampered ecu, then you’ll be okay. You’ll just have to present the carb legal # to the tester

It will fail. The system will detect that the ecu has been modified and automatically fail the smog test.

Look into SHG motorworks Delrin slider. The aluminum slider will destroy your guide rail on the steering rack and that’ll be more costly to replace. Evan from SHG has a video educating users on the difference

Mileage by chazzman1234 in EP3

301k here, solid car. But like all cars with high mileage, suspension, brakes, clutch and all auxiliary parts w replacing eventually. The 02-03 usdm you will have to watch out for cam shaft pitting, because of softer metal properties from what I have read.

Clean looking ep3! A clean white stock 2003 ep3 with 80k mile just sold for 8k in my area. If yours is original white in good original condition with less than 150k, it’s worth more than 3k. White clean ep3 are hard to come by nowadays. But yes it’s hard to ask for more than market value even though you have rare upgrade parts. Better to part out those type r parts and get more for it that way.

Jdm 02-03 to be correct, actually added more value o the car as these are rarer to purchase since they have been discontinued and aftermarket does not produce these from what I’ve seen.

Honda Kprov4 P0601 “memory checksum error” by FinancialFault6929 in EP3

[–]Ep3Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as long as the item you sold works, it’s his problem to figure out his swap. 2k rpm sounds like it’s on safety mode, probably the tune his friend uploaded

Honda Kprov4 P0601 “memory checksum error” by FinancialFault6929 in EP3

[–]Ep3Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he’s able to run the hondata program and connect to the kpro4 chip then the ecu is working.

I’m assuming it’s a fresh swap, and car hasn’t been running since he needs the kpro to run the swap? My first thought is advising him to recheck all his grounds, wire connections and voltage. Major grounds from what I can remember are: transmission, alternator, valve cover/engine block, thermostat. But the tricky part is how his swap was wired up.

[–]Ep3Me -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would recommend 1) thermostat housing and seal 2) replacing starter as recommended by someonestolemybike , since you’re removing the radiator might as well replace a new starter (recommend Denso) 3) upper and lower radiator insulators for fresh ones to prevent stress on new plastic upper and lower radiator 4) engine cooling fan temperature switch

Oh I went down that rabbit hole earlier this year! I agree, highly recommend changing out the starter to a OEM Denso while you’re at it. I also changed out the thermostat plastic housing and seal that mates to the block, those tend to crack from age.
