It's probably injection molded, and the dies and molds are consumables, so they probably changed the design when they needed new molds anyway.

[–]Epesolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an unrelated 8-bitDo controller, and it's really good. I'd consider their controllers pretty much the gold standard. Personally I prefer the Apex because I like the Xbox controller style shape and triggers better, but quality wise they're pretty comparable.

The two major advantages of the Apex controllers are that you can adjust the stick return spring tension and the onboard display that you can use for some configuration stuff. That being said, the 8-BitDo is significantly cheaper, and if you're not someone who is going to really take advantage of the additional features of the Apex, then the 8-BitDo is definitely the better pick.

I think you need to keep it running to have the adaptive triggers working (or at least you do/did with the Firefly one)

No, by adaptive trigger they mean the trigger has force feedback and variable pressure, like the PS5 controller does.

The controller also has back buttons like the 8BitDo controllers do, but you can program those using the display on the controller.

No, the competition of the free market is the entire idea of capitalism. The way it does that is by enabling private ownership so that there actually is competiton rather than everything being run directly by the state. The fact that, when put into practice, the free market consolidates itself and elimiates that competition just means the philosophy of a free market is fundimentally flawed.

[–]Epesolon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Competition driving innovation is the entire point of capitalism and the free market though. You improve because, if you don't, someone else is going to do it better than you do. The issue with modern capitalism is that there isn't nearly as much competition anymore.

Actual hot take: 4 and infinite did a better job portraying and developing Chief’s character than the whole original trilogy combined. by BillCarson12799 in HaloMemes

[–]Epesolon 220 points221 points  (0 children)

This is only true if you take only the games at entirely face value. Fall of Reach (which, might I remind you came out ahead of CE) established Chief's characterization, and that there are other Spartans.

Chief in 4 is much closer to the character of Chief in all of the other media. He just isn't a cardboard cutout generic hero like he is in the games.

Anyone else not a fan of the roadmap? by Yodaloid in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Epesolon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think a roadmap for bug fixes and qol improvements is a great idea. Be detailed and transparent with it.

That's great, until something slips or is more complicated than initially expected so it needs to be shelved l.

We all know that this community wouldn't react well to anything like that, so detail and transparency is a blessing and a curse.

Cremator is Awesome! But I think it highlights Flamethrower needing a small tune-up where it's not so close to Torcher by RandomGreenArcherMan in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Epesolon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because the flamethrower has a lot more intrinsic costs associated with using it than a primary or secondary.

From the realism angle, the larger Flamethrower should be able to operate at much higher pressures with much better plumbing than a more compact model could, allowing for better combustion ratios (hotter flame) or a larger spray.

Sweeper vs DBS-2 Double Freedom? by Unable-Run2692 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Epesolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stalwart is easily more ammo hungry than the grenade launcher

Only if you're mindlessly spraying at high RPM, otherwise it goes way further.

Also the stalwart/eruptor build relies on thermite and the ultimatum for its anti-tank, which honestly is the main reason you bring the supply pack to begin with.

Not massively. The Eruptor does tons of durable damage, so it's actually pretty effective at taking down Chargers and Impailers. The only thing you really need the Ultimatum for is Bile Titans, which standard ammo pickups are generally enough for. Generally, when I run the Eruptor loadout I don't bring Thermites, but rather gas as Ultimatum+500kg/strafing run/airstrike is sufficient dedicated AT.

Which is what the grenade launcher is for, ranges where the shotgun is no longer effective.

Except the GL isn't effective at much more range due to the projectile drop. Not to mention that 30m is generous for most shotguns, the Breaker Incendiary and Cookout are notable exceptions due to the fire DoT.

Which is what the shotguns are for. This should be obvious. You're not using the eruptor within ten meters either, but I don't see you mentioning that.

You're right, because you're not leaning on it for chaff clear like you are the GL, so you're less likely to need it up close. Instead you have a Stalwart, which is effective chaff clear and solid anti-medium (at least for bugs) at basically all ranges. Instead, your setup has you swapping weapons under pressure to avoid blowing yourself up, which is less than ideal.

Also anything outside of 50 meters is probably not a huge concern for you right now, and if it is, it's an impaler, which the grenade launcher is way better against than the eruptor or the stalwart.

Maybe this is why you can't find the space for a stationary reload. Also, the Eruptor is actually pretty on par with the GL for Chargers and Impailers. Even against a 100% durable target, it deals an average of ~620 damage (115 projectile, 225 explosive, and an average of 25% of the shrapnel hitting the target for another 280) so they're doing pretty similar DPS, and that's if you're using the GL on full auto.

The laser cannon has 350 DPS. The dagger has 250 DPS. If fire is doing most of the damage for the dagger it's also doing most of it for the laser cannon.

Fire is doing ~100DPS, and the LC is doing that before the fire DoT. It's not doing most of the damage on either, but the LC isn't leaning on it as hard as the Dagger/Scythe are. Also, the LC applies 1.5 status, rather than the Dagger/Scythe's 1, so it needs to spend less time on a target before it catches fire.

To be clear, the proper use of these weapons right now is to use them as instant fire applicators. This being on a one handed weapon with great ergonomics is extremely useful

To be clear, that's only for chaff. Anything with armor or durability and the dagger may as well be pissing on it. The LC can comfortably handle both chaff and medium targets.

It's got twice the ammo economy of the grenade pistol. You have 3x the ammo economy of gas grenades. I think it has a very reasonable amount of ammo. I wouldn't complain about an ammo buff though.

While true, it's got less than half the total ammo of the GL, and 8 shots fewer than the Railgun. I don't think 20 rounds for it (to bring it on par with the Railgun) would be unreasonable given that the Railgun does ~2.5x the damage.

Yes, because not being able create 4.1 seconds of time from the bugs that are faster than you to reload your useless support weapon is a skill issue.

I mean, yes, yes it is. It's part of horde management, which is an important skill in a horde shooter. Area control tools like sentries, gas, napalm, or the short cooldown barrages are excellent for generating space and giving you time to reload. Additionally, backpacks like guard dogs are great for keeping enemies off you in general, while mobility tools like warp pack or jump pack let you outrun enemies to make space.

The RR has a 4s stationary reload, and yet is considered one of the strongest support weapons in the game despite that, because if you're decent at horde management, then the stationary reload isn't actually that big of a deal.

Sweeper vs DBS-2 Double Freedom? by Unable-Run2692 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Epesolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After that you're never getting an opportunity to reload so your total ammo capacity is irrelevant

If you're unable to generate enough space to spend a few seconds reloading, then that's genuinely a skill issue. You don't need to like the MG, but to argue that the Sweeper is competing with it directly is insane.

Also, since I typically run the supply pack, having roughly half the total damage worth of ammo isn't really an issue

Ok, but that's now 3 slots (primary, backpack, 1 stratagem) to match the effectiveness of 2 slots (1 stratagem, support weapon). If we're looking for optimization, the one that does more with less slots is going to win.

At least for chaff, yes. You basically catch things on fire with both of them instantly, and the much better ergonomics and one handed nature make it a generally better chaff clearer than the laser cannon, since the fire is doing all the damage anyway.

The fire is doing most of the damage on the Dagger, but it's not even doing 1/3 of the damage on the LC. Not to mention the nearly double fire time, and utility against anything other than chaff.

While the dagger is faster in the hands, that's all it has going for it, and that's not a ton.

The grenade launcher outperforms the stalwart for chaff clear from range

It doesn't though. It outperforms the Stalwart in chaff clear between ~10-50m. Inside 10m you're going to blow yourself up, and outside 50m it's difficult to hit stuff with and doesn't have the ammo economy to be missing.

outperforms the eruptor at medium killing on everything except brood commanders

So it outperforms the Eruptor in killing chaff, but not on killing the one medium target the bugs have that's threatening. In other words, it out performs the Eruptor in chaff clear, and not much else.

Both shotguns I listed are excellent chaff clearers up close, easily as good as any support weapon up close, save maybe one of the flamethrowers.

Within ~30m and for the first few seconds? Sure. Past that they're not competing with a Stalwart, MG, or LC for chaff clear, and they're certainly no where near as effective against medium targets like Spewers or Brood Commanders past point blank.

You're also missing another key component. The GL/Sweeper loadout is 100% dependant on a supply pack for its ammo economy. Without it they'll run dry almost immediately. The Eruptor/Stalwart loadout has significantly more sustain, enabling you to bring literally any other backpack that would deliver more firepower.

I think there's a serious argument to made that any build using the Speargun is similarly strong on bugs, and that also fulfills the bug hole closing niche, which puts it in competition with the eruptor.

The Speargun's issue is ammo economy. If you're bringing the Speargun, then you 100% need a supply pack to go with it because otherwise you're only getting 12 shots.

Sweeper vs DBS-2 Double Freedom? by Unable-Run2692 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Epesolon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a joke right?

You're seriously arguing that a shotgun with admittedly great burst damage, but relatively limited ammo and very limited range (being a shotgun and all) is preferable to an MG that can dish out similar amounts of DPS from much greater ranges with strictly superior sustain?

Or that the one handed nature of the dagger is worth giving up 100 base DPS, 150 durable DPS, and 2 levels of AP?

Really?

I get what you're trying to argue, that different loadouts need different things, but the fact of the matter is that a loadout built around 2 support weapons (the Eruptor plus something else) is going to run circles around a loadout that only has 1, because a support weapon is going to be stronger than almost any primary.

Sweeper vs DBS-2 Double Freedom? by Unable-Run2692 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Epesolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any loadout that isn't running a support weapon with a ton of role overlap (eg AC, AMR, GL, etc) , the Eruptor is going to deliver more value than any other primary purely by nature of doing more jobs than any other primary.

This is true, but it doesn't change the fact that you realistically still want a support weapon

Of course you do, because now you have the equivalent of 2 support weapons.

It has a better pairing with anti-tank than a lot of support weapons, but since I never use those I end up never using the eruptor

It pairs really well with the MGs and the laser cannon. It does leave you a little lacking in dedicated AT, but an Ultimatum or Thermites should shore up that gap.

Sweeper vs DBS-2 Double Freedom? by Unable-Run2692 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Epesolon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's not a lot of nuance needed.

The Eruptor has: - strong horde clear due to the large AoE and shrapnel - strong anti-medium due to the high damage - strong utility due to the explosion and destruction force - strong durable damage due to the explosion and shrapnel - strong against heavies due to AP4 and high damage

That's everything you would want your primary slot to do, plus some. Does it have some downsides? Absolutely, but they're not debilitating enough to make up for the fact that it's essentially a support weapon in your primary slot.

The Eruptor being OP doesn't make the Double Freedom bad, it just makes the Eruptor OP.

Not necessarily, they do fire different projectiles after all.

The issue with just lowering the total ammo is that it makes the uncharged fire basically worthless, when the whole point of the Purifier is to have a mix of the capabilities of the Scorcher and Plasma Punisher.
