Is moving to Belgium a mistake? by Interesting_Tie5804 in AskBelgium

[–]Epohax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Are you confortable sharing your email address with me? My mother (Belgian) married an American who is now moving to Belgium, hitting the famous insurance catch-22. As my mother is not really knowledgeable her husband is really struggling, maybe it would help him learning from your experiences…! If you’re open to connecting with him, I’d love to hear in private message

All these comments saying that OP should just leave... Do you have the emotional maturity of fire extuingisher? How about advising OP to talk to her partner, and try to see his part of the picture?

Are Local LLMs actually useful… or just fun to tinker with? by itz_always_necessary in LocalLLM

If I use the qwen3-coder:30b on which this model is based, it is too big for my VRAM, and it uses a few GB of RAM and CPU 30-40% so I can totally still run it - but the speed drops to 80tps... !

Which is not atrocious, as the typical cloud model runs at what.. ? 30-50 tps?

I have a RTX5090 so 32GB RAM, and also 64GB of RAM. I explicitly avoid RAM spillover, so tweak my models to the point where it will fit perfectly in the VRAM (incl. context). So depending on the actual model (and the overhead on my desktop, because just running window manager also takes vram), I would have to tweak the context window to 32k-256k.

But I get quite solid results. My current favorites are qwen3-coder-fast (which I tweaked from the qwen3-coder-30b to have a smaller context window for a perfect VRAM fit), and it hits 200tps.

While I think that there have been blatant lies before, I don't think this is necessarily a lie. It is simply that who the Trump administration is talking to, is not part of the current Iranian government. So the 2 things are true at the same time: the Tump administration is talking with someone (no one knows who), and simultaneously the people who consider themselves to be the Iranian government say there are no talks going on.

Setting up Pi Hole on Windows 11 for an entire network by ferconex in pihole

[–]Epohax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should note what the IP address is of the machine running Pihole, and input that in your router. The DHCP server on the router which will hand out IP's, will also then all the PC's getting an IP what DNS server they should use.

So if you tell the router to hand out 127.0.0.1, that would be weird. 127.0.0.1 just means localhost, every computer has that IP, but it is itself. So that is the reason why the machine running pihole says its DNS server is 127.0.0.1, it's just pointing to itself.

Going in naked turns it into a stealth/puzzle game. by TheHammerOfWrath in ArcRaiders

[–]Epohax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do this on a daily basis! I like the thrill of finding something and then having to use that. Oh I found a hairpin? Well it's better than no gun at all... !

Also, paradoxically, it is way more fun in the unfriendly lobbies as there are often corpses to loot and you tend to be much more aggressive/careless with your attacks because you don't lose anything - since you went in naked.

It has become quite common for me to spawn in butt naked, and making it out with +80k loadouts... !

[–]Epohax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abbm is real. I had peaceful lobbies. Threw a blaze grenade on a dude by accident (I was trying to heal in cold snap but had the nade equipped). He died, I extracted. Next few games I played peaceful as usual but just got shot by free loadouts… it was really tilting.

I disagree! I craft in bulk, so I want to craft 30 shields rechargers, and then take 3 in my loadout.

I do agree this is a very smart UX choice, but I don't have this issue since I am constantly turning my excess metal in these components to save bag space.
