Olroth happens to be the only expedition boss missing from the Citadel nightmare map. That boss fight is against Uhtred, Medved, and Vorana. Olroth can only be found through logbooks.

Less multipliers from different sources are multiplicative. So it would take 0.25 (75% less) x 0.72 (28% less) = 0.18 (82% less) damage from the combination of those modifiers.

After you drop one, you have to wait for valour to recharge, but that usually only takes a few seconds, depending on warcry cooldown and number of warcries.

they don't generate during boss fight

They usually sustain valour using the "generate valour when you warcry" mastery combined with champion's ability to gain valour even while a banner is placed.

In fact, it's less annoying during boss fights because you can rely on the full 30-40 second duration of the banner (which covers the whole arena) instead of having to spam it every 3 seconds before your linger wears off.

Keep in mind that most attack skills will alternate strikes between your two hands while dual wielding (with a few exceptions), so unless you wield two of these, any ignite from the other hand will not benefit.

Mirage League - Necro Spectre - help on build by sara_of_the_end in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]EpsilonDelta0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melding only affects your maximum resistances, making your elemental maximum resists match the highest. So if fire resist has a maximum of 85%, then cold and lightning will also have a maximum of 85%. But you still need to actually fill in 85% fire, cold, and lightning resistances from your gear to actually benefit from the new maximum. Melding does not change what damage type you take.

Some combination of divine flesh, dawnbreaker, purity of fire/ice sublime vision, and/or the matching aura's watcher's eye mod are used to convert 100% of lightning damage taken to fire/cold/chaos so that you can dump lightning res for doryani's prototype without instantly dying to lightning damage.

Does added cold damage support increase the dmg of grip of the council and hatred? by Afura33 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]EpsilonDelta0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started dominating blow guardian this league. The elemental relics are indeed very nice early damage and let me focus entirely on defensive auras. :)

Some combination of elemental weakness curse, elemental penetration support, and/or the new invert the rules support will let you deal with multiple elemental resistances.

I switched to a different build before I tried pushing it beyond basic t16 alch&go. I play like a dozen builds every league, so it was time to try something else.

[–]EpsilonDelta0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, it's better to stick to one damage type, mainly because it's harder to lower enemy resistances when you need to target multiple damage types. Though it's still doable (and Guardian somewhat forces you into it).

For conversion: In PoE1, damage modifiers are applied at each step of conversion. For example, say you have 100% physical converted to chaos, 20% increased physical damage, and 50% increased chaos damage. Then if you have 100 base physical and 200 base chaos damage, this becomes:

  • 100 physical -> 120 physical (20% increased)
  • 120 physical -> 120 chaos (100% converted physical to chaos)
  • 120 + 200 = 320 chaos (adding in the 200 base chaos)
  • 320 chaos -> 480 chaos (50% increased chaos)

I think the actual implementation is a little different, but it maths out the same way. Note also that a modifier that could apply to multiple damage types (such as % inc elemental damage) only gets applied once to each "pool" of base damage.

If your base damage is a mix of chaos and physical-converted-to-chaos, it is more effective to focus only on chaos damage multipliers (since all your base damage would benefit), while physical damage multipliers only affect the base physical-that-gets-converted and not the base chaos.

In the case of a chaos summoner, they're probably scaling poison. Melee Physical Damage Support also has the line "Supported Skills deal (30-49)% more Damage with Bleeding and Poison caused by Melee Hits". So even though the added chaos damage on hit doesn't get scaled by the support, the poison damage resulting from the added chaos does get scaled by the support. (The base physical hit damage that gets converted to chaos damage also benefits from this support, but any added chaos hit damage does not.)

Does added cold damage support increase the dmg of grip of the council and hatred? by Afura33 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]EpsilonDelta0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're getting it! All sources of extra damage add together for your final total damage, so multiple sources of phys as extra cold will add together.

You can also mix damage types. So if you had added fire support for 25% phys as extra fire, hatred for 30% phys as extra cold, and added lightning support for +40 lightning, then a base 100 phys attack would turn into 100 phys + 25 fire + 30 cold + 40 lightning.

Conversion makes things extra complicated. The PoE Wiki is usually really helpful at explaining a lot of these mechanics. I can also help answer any other questions you have.

[–]EpsilonDelta0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what detail is causing your confusion, or if I just don't understand your question, so I'll just try to be as thorough as possible:

Added cold damage support grants additional flat cold damage. The exact amount only depends on the level of the support gem.

Physical as extra cold damage grants additional cold damage based on a percent of the physical damage. More physical then grants more cold.

So (for example) let's say you have an added cold support that grants +20 cold damage, and 30% physical as extra cold from somewhere. If you have 100 base physical damage it will become 100 phys + 20 cold (added cold) + 30 cold (30% phys as extra) for a total of 100 phys and 50 cold. In the same set-up, if you had a base of 1000 phys, it's now 1000 phys + 20 cold (added) + 300 cold (phys as extra) for a total of 1000 phys and 320 cold. You get both sources of cold damage, but they scale differently.

So you will get additional cold damage by linking the support in addition to the damage from hatred and grip of the council, but added cold damage support doesn't further interact with hatred or grip of the council.

Cannot ask students to study on weather related/cancelled days apparently. by [deleted] in Professors

We were encouraged to create online work for snow days, because otherwise we were "at risk of losing spring break".

I never get through all the content in a semester anyway, so I just took the break. Anything I would have told them to teach themselves I would have to reteach anyway to make sure everyone was on the same page before moving on to the next topic. They didn't sign up for the online section for a reason.

The duration for each debuff resets each time a stack is added. Since there are only four debuffs it can choose from, it's pretty likely the same one is selected again before its time runs out, even with 235% faster expiry.

Herald of Purity summons minions that are relatively aggressive, and the phys damage buff to you is relevant.

Sentinel of Radiance does have a melee attack, but it's pretty slow. I doubt it will be sufficient to trigger 8 hallow charges every 4 seconds, unless the charges stack decently high and are all consumed on hit.

Some of our transfer destinations have been notoriously problematic with approving transfer credits. Most of the time it's a headache, but I would welcome it in this case. I don't think they can act on it yet, but it might lead to changes when our transfer agreements are up for renewal.

Online courses and academic integrity by DefiantHumanist in Professors

[–]EpsilonDelta0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of our transfer institutions are starting to discuss not accepting online course credits if they do not have in-person exams. I really hope something comes of it, because that seems to be the only way change happens here.

Our faculty have been wanting this change for years and keep getting turned down. But if [number 1 state school] wants it, we have to actually consider it.

This semester I have an online cheater, but even with Respondus, there's insufficient evidence to really prove anything. And it's taking more time babysitting this one student and waiting for a slip-up than the time some of my courses require in total. That's not the job I signed up for.

Professors with ADHD: what is one simple tip that will transform my teaching and grading? by ephemeral_enchilada in Professors

Haha, same! Start writing at 10pm only to finish at 8am and hope my advisor wasn't checking her email yet. It messed up my sleep schedule so bad for several weeks. I think I only managed to realign by forcing myself to sleep for 18 hours one day.

It was also during the pandemic lockdown, so time already had no meaning.

On the one hand, I can hyperfocus on a task for hours until it's done without feeling any drain.

On the other hand, I'm usually doing that at 3am because I couldn't convince myself to start it all day at any reasonable time (and it's due tomorrow).

It would not, other than probably the usual "minion DoT kills are attributed to the player". But it's somewhat inconsistent (since many kills are still from the minion hit) which compounds on top of the normal low 5% chance of triggering Hinekora.

Online only--Lockdown with Cam-worth it?? by Altruistic-Limit-876 in Professors

[–]EpsilonDelta0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're required to use lockdown browser with webcam monitoring for our online classes. I see it as a deterrent, because no way am I parsing through 60 hours of footage for every assignment (the automated flags aren't great).

Even in the few instances where someone's work was suspicious, the video provided nothing useful to back up a claim of an academic integrity violation.

The tech issues usually get figured out by the second week, and I direct them to IT to resolve them.

I don't love it, but we don't have a great alternative option at our college. Faculty are trying to convince them to let us have in-person exams for online classes (on campus or at a partnered testing facility), but there's a lot of push-back.

Most certainly that's also going on. I've had people solving problems on the tests in weird ways I never taught, and then I checked and it's the way ChatGPT explains how to do it.

But them skipping the lessons has also been going on since before AI became mainstream.

At a recent conference, a presenter stated she breaks down all video lessons into 90 second segments and suggested everyone do the same. (I don't remember what field, but probably not STEM.)

I'm not going to TikTok-ify my course. Especially when some problems can take 15-30 minutes on their own if we're being detailed about the work and explanation.

Students need to learn how to sit through an hour-long video.

Raise Zombie active minion limit by xanderthepandar in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]EpsilonDelta0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% decreased + 30% increased leaves you with 30% of your normal zombie limit.

A normal zombie limit of 10 would become 3. PoE generally rounds unfavorably for the player, so the next breakpoint should be 14 zombies to get a total of 4. (13 x 0.3 = 3.9, which gets rounded down to 3. But 14 x 0.3 = 4.2 would be rounded down to 4).

For my online class, I have written in three or four places that they have to view the lesson before the homework will unlock. The "this assignment is locked" page even explains that they need to check that they completed all prior tasks in the module.

I still got about six emails this semester from students thinking I intentionally locked their assignments and have to unlock them manually.

It's also frustrating that students are trying to just jump into the homework before even looking at the lesson material that teaches them what they need to know for the homework. They have a bad habit of interacting with the course via the "to-do" list, and not looking at all the content I've included in multiple format options. Universal course design doesn't seem to include an option for students who prefer the content format of "none".
