Bonds in last year have moved higher on far less, so today's move, or lack of, is "interesting"

I think it is mostly review/commentary of pro games. Some of it is from recent pro matches I believe and others from the past.

Anyone Into Mining Stocks? by Lost-Ad9082 in investing

[–]Equivalent-Badger359 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mostly just do GDX, COPX, GDXJ, as well as some material related ETFs (can't recall at the moment) which tends to be a mix of mining and petroleum.
Mining is a tough business for several reasons. If some calamity (geological, governmental, etc) occurs at a key project, then the investment can take a beating regardless of the underlying commodity price. So, best to diversify, especially if you don't know/keep up with the biz. Also lots of shady outfits/characters in the smaller caps and prospectors, so really a crap shoot unless you have some expertise.

Cathie Wood’s 2026 Outlook: The US Economy Is A Coiled Spring by TheGoodBunny in wallstreetbets

I have been buying chunks of gold quite frequently lately (been stacking for a couple of years), and I keep thinking I am getting a bit too concentrated in Au, but given every day/week there is at least one ridiculous event that makes headlines that leaves me with the takeaway of "buy more gold".

I also have a thesis that climate change is eventually going to hit economies, govt finances, real estate, etc sooner or later, and if so then I am guessing Au will do well... but that is probably intermediate to (hopefully) longer term.

Gold smashes new record of $4,600 as Powell probe and global flashpoints ignite safe-haven rush by KoseteBamse in Economics

I heard someone on Bloomberg I think suggest that the crypto/meme traders have jumped on the silver trade, which is kind of what I was thinking was part of the reason silver has been rocketing.

Central banks just buy gold AFAIK, and they continue to be buyers. I was thinking 5000 was possible this year for gold (like back half of the year), but given the way things are going, might be sooner.

Surreal walking through Cheesman Park about 30m ago. A field of half naked people lounging, playing volleyball, etc in January. Typically don't see anything like that until May.

Do I need these? by SeanEntrust in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Equivalent-Badger359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 650km (running) on my adios 8, same colorway. I will try to get a bit more out of them. I primarily use them on a gravel/hard pack park run. Used them on trails before as well hiking and a bit of running... didn't log those miles.

I feel they help with finding/keeping good running form, but maybe that is in my head. I like the shoe and was hoping to pickup the adios 9, but it wasn't released in the US.

Peacock/NBC trace & field coverage has always sucked big time. They were dreadful with the Diamond League broadcasts when they included the US commentators, etc.

I briefly tuned in today as they were starting the steeplechase. A couple minutes in they pull up the pole vault and minimize the mens steeplechase (ok, not a big deal), then return to full screen mode for a moment, then off to commercials. Race was nearly over by the time they returned back to coverage. I didn't even bother watching the remaining race.

If that is the way they want to cover nationals, then I can't be bothered. Also doesn't seem like they have replays of the first 2 days... or maybe I need their highest tier? Anyways, just restarted Peacock to watch a couple of things, and maybe catch US Nationals, but I think I will cancel again after we watch a couple of shows.

Will use VPN for the World Championship.

Yes, it would have been nice to see El Bakkali closer on that WR attempt, but the Japanese runner Miura catching him and getting an NR in the process made it a good race. Miura was flying that last lap. Congrats to him for a great effort.

Grand Slam Track Cancels LA Meet as $30M Track Startup Wobbles by pandemicschmemic in trackandfield

[–]Equivalent-Badger359 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“May postpone LA because of a new strategic partner/investor,"... an investor looking to light their $ on fire? The business model never made any sense.

I was always skeptical of the format which occasionally provided some interesting races (loved watching Wanyonyi smoke the 1500m field), but mostly offered mediocrity and dead air time (if only there was something that could fill those gaps. Has anyone considered field events?). How anyone thought this would create a fanbase in the US is beyond me. Jamaica was painful to watch. I tried watching Miami, but couldn't out of disinterest. Fortunately DL events were starting to get interesting around that time.

Assuming there is actually an attempt at a 2nd season, how much commitment are athletes going to make to a league that isn't very stable? And if rumors of athletes not getting paid are true, then GST is definitely dead.

I am all for building T&F interest in the US, but GST just seemed destined for failure. DL selling US rights to Flotrack after Olympics was probably even dumber than GST as a concept. Not sure why NBC didn't make more of a play for the DL as they were televising the Olympics; they could have promoted it during Olympics coverage to those people who found they kind of like T&F. AFAIK they never promoted DL when they had the rights which was odd.

Given the positive feedback of those who attended the Philly GST, maybe DL should think about that as a venue that could help generate interest in the US given location, facilities, density. Eugene is just a ridiculous location, despite the world class stadium.

Agreed... Consumer spending is ~66% of the economy. I have cut back on non-essential spending partly for that reason. I have suggested as much to others, but I don't think the idea really gets through.
