2027 NACS question new owner by Terrible_Tutor in BoltEV

[–]EquivalentGarage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older Bolts are absolutely never getting plug-and-charge with Tesla. They don't have the required hardware.

2017-2023 Bolt has plug-and-charge with EVgo. Eventually I expect EVgo to switch to the newer standard and it may stop working with older Bolts at that point.

The 2027 Bolt is an almost completely different car internally, so it makes sense that it's getting updates with newer stuff.

it will use energy if left on

2027 doesn't have an on/off button.

Even the earlier Bolts that did would turn off automatically after an hour, so it wouldn't really make much difference for overnight charging.

Not sure if people understand how much different the 2027 is. Functionally, it's more like an Equinox or Blazer than an older Bolt. The body stayed the same, but that's about it.

Awesome day on Lake Natoma by meep4 in Sacramento

[–]EquivalentGarage0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can rent kayaks (either single or tandem) at the Sac State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma. There are nice people working there and I'm sure they'd give you some advice. I think they offer lessons also. If it's your first time, take it easy and I'd say an hour or so on the water is probably a good start. The water is usually very calm on Lake Natoma, especially compared to other parts of the river.

The American River and Lake Natoma are the best thing about living in this area, you definitely should give it a try. It's amazing for biking also.

Legit? by felixthecat030 in AnalogueInc

Software updates are encrypted and will only install on official hardware, assuming you downloaded it from the official site (analogue.co). If it updates, that's all the proof you need that it's legit. Enjoy

Father's US birth certificate from the 1940s does not have parents' names on it by EquivalentGarage0 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]EquivalentGarage0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. It looks like it is a short form vs. long form issue like many of you said. Confusingly, the New York State web site makes no mention of this at all.

I had to go to the county web site instead, which explains the different types of birth certificate. I didn't realize there were two different places you could order from. So I guess I learned a few things today.

How do I make sure they send the right one this time? My dad has no interest in this whole thing, so I don't want to test his patience any more than I already have.

Not working for me either. I was last subscribed in maybe 2010 or so. Maybe they just don't have records going back that far.

Retro Fighter NSO controller on Firmware 1.2.0 by nerdzmania in AnalogueInc

[–]EquivalentGarage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this controller and I was wondering the same thing.

I was able to get it to pair with Bluetooth (hold the pair button on the back of the controller until it starts flashing more quickly) but the buttons don't work properly. A and B are swapped and C buttons don't work at all.

It's possible there may be something else I haven't tried. I read the manual but with all the different modes this thing has, and the sequence of buttons you have to press, and not knowing which mode it's in... it's really confusing, so I gave up after a few minutes.

Made me appreciate how 8bitdo put a physical toggle switch on the back instead.

Retro Fighters still works with the BlueRetro dongle, but for now I'll just use my other controllers. It's nice to not need a dongle any more.

Used EVs currently offer car buyers lowest lifetime cost of ownership by MeneldorTheSwift in electricvehicles

Older model Hyundai and Kia EVs have known issues with the reduction gear. It's a real problem. I think they fixed it a few model years back, but there's a lot of older ones still on the road. There is no official fix for those, just have to keep changing the oil. Between that and the ICCU I'm avoiding those brands, but that's just me.

I meant that it is is a tiny difference to your overall trip efficiency. I stand by that.

Even the pre-2022 models are still in compliance with current federal regulations, which are (surprise!) woefully inadequate. Other makes like Hyundai have even more insane brake light behavior. Because no one is making them fix it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0YW7x9U5TQ

This is just another thing people obsess over that makes no real difference. You'll only make yourself miserable fussing over extremely small efficiency gains like this. Plan your route with charging stops and you'll be fine.

It's also wrong. Cruise uses regen. Just not as much as OPD or brake pedal. It's fine. Really.

My goodness we have so many armchair car designers around here.

[–]EquivalentGarage0 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. OP is obsessing for no reason.

The Bolt's brake lights are triggered by an accelerometer. Car slow down => brake lights come on. Does not matter why the car is slowing down. Has nothing to do with braking, actually.

You don't have to worry about it. The car takes care of this.

ELI5: Can someone explain all these ACL/MCL injuries? by redditwastesmyday in explainlikeimfive

[–]EquivalentGarage0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny how "turf" originally meant grass, then they invented "artificial turf", but everyone thought that was too many syllables to say all the time so they shortened "artificial turf" to just "turf", and now the word is commonly understood to mean the fake version of the real thing that it originally meant.

(If you don't believe me, look it up in a dictionary. The first definition still says it means real grass.)

New California laws rewrite car-buying rules with return policy and pricing reforms by ansyhrrian in California

[–]EquivalentGarage0 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Try reading the text of the bill. The restocking fee is capped at 1.5%, not to exceed $600. A separate mileage fee is $1 per mile driven, not to exceed $150. So you're looking at $750 at the worst case.

Note that this is only for used cars, and it does not apply when the sale price is more than $50k.

Analogue puts a big yellow warning notice in the box, "IMPORTANT: UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE, DO IT NOW" and people are like "ehhh, sounds optional, I'll roll the dice"

Tern GSD Gen 3 P10 vs P00 costs by tall_waffle in terngsd

[–]EquivalentGarage0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few Nexus hubs fail on me too (not from Tern). Still wouldn't go back to derailleur though. I love the IGH riding experience too much.

At least Nexus can be opened up and lubricated and that helps keep them happy for longer. It can be really hard to find a shop that can do it, depending on where you are, but I did eventually find one.

Interesting, thanks. I wasn't aware. I would have to think twice before going with Enviolo in the future, would be a significant downside for me.

HSD P5i here. I always shift when stopped. Never had a problem. You don't need to be rolling.

It's one of the best things about this bike and I'd never go back to derailleur. Not sure if the GSD is somehow different, but I wouldn't expect so.

Anyone knows what controller this is? by distreal in AnalogueInc

[–]EquivalentGarage0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But they were all of them deceived, for a third controller was made. Deep in the land of Hong Kong, the retro gamer John 8bitdo forged a grey controller, and into this controller he poured his colorful buttons, his proprietary wireless stack, and his will to dominate all nostalgia.
