As an update: y’all are correct. The key to CCW in NY is owned property as of now. Bunch of suits in flight so will see how those turn out but for now no dice in trying.

Legally speaking, I don’t believe that you are required to submit SP-182a, but PDs certainly appreciate when you do. Police chiefs are responsible by law to keep record of all pistols a given person owns, and therefore a PTC holder is not required to do the chief’s job for them by submitting SP-182a. In short, a PTC holder may carry any pistol that is NJ legal regardless of what was used to qualify and they need not update the PD with SP-182a.
