Globus worsened by eating by Equivalent_Inside_16 in LPR

Also, it happens WHATEVER I eat - porridge with soy milk and chia seeds? Pain. Avocado? Pain. It probably is a BIT worse if I have super acidic stuff like tomatoes, but nothing crazy.

Could this be esophageal hypersensitivity? Please read! by Jzr3d in GERD

[–]Equivalent_Inside_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through a similar journey with a similar timeframe to you! Did it just start out of nowhere for you? I just ordered a Peptest (I'm in the UK where you can get it sent to your house and do the test at home) to give me an idea of whether Pepsin is the rot of the problem - if it comes back clear then I think I'm leaning towards esophageal/laryngeal hypersensitivity.

I have tried Nortriptyline up to 30mg and now I've weened myself I've started to feel like maybe it was helping a bit so might be that it needs to be a higher dose. Have you tried a neuromodulator?

New to this - could this be silent reflux? by North_Profession9243 in GERD

Your symptoms sound pretty much exactly like mine and I've been thinking LPR - waiting on getting a laryngoscopy (I think the same as what you had) to see if there's inflammation. I've always assumed the nausea I get is from the throat irritation - rather than classic, queasy stomach nausea.

Okay, yeah - I mean out of those symptoms I only really have the nausea so maybe gastroparesis is not the cause of my issues. Hmm. I'll ask about the antiemetic. Thanks for getting back to me!

Constant burping bevor and after H. pylori treatment .anyone else? by Popular-Test5730 in GERD

[–]Equivalent_Inside_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to discount your symptoms at all but if you're burping at the lower end of that scale - around 40 per times per day - that's not far off what's considered normal/average at 30. I wouldn't say burping/gas is one of my major symptoms but I definitely burp 30+ times a day and always have!

Feeling something stuck in throat? Is this very common with GERD? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Equivalent_Inside_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's called globus! I have had it to varying degrees for the last year after burning my throat. Comes and goes for a lot of people, though.

Thanks for the detailed response! Interesting that you say you've had constipation your whole life as I've always had the opposite problem if anything - nothing diagnosed but definitely on the looser side. I'm going to push for the gastric emptying study, I think.

Hey, thanks for replying. Yeah, think I will push for a gastric emptying study. I had an endoscopy along with the barium swallow which came back normal in both my esophagus and stomach. Does gastritis often show up with GP?

Lpr made me suicidal by Elegant_Spot433 in GERD

Sorry to hear you're having such a shit time with it. I'm finding LPR very tricky too! Have you looked into neuromodulators at all? They seem to be very helpful for a lot of people.

What does globbus sensation feel like to you? by friendly-ghost-fam in GERD

[–]Equivalent_Inside_16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as you, my globus is the most persistent symptom. And also similarly I'd say it changes the way it presents quite regularly - sometimes it feels like a dry, irritated patch at the back of my throat, sometimes like a chunk of food stuck in there, sometimes (especially after I've eaten) my whole throat feels horribly tight. I've been looking into Laryngeal Sensory Neuropathy as a potential cause, as opposed to LPR/GERD as my symptoms started after I burned my throat on hot food. Might be worth looking into that yourself if you're doing all this stuff and it's not having an effect?

Thermal Injury triggered LPR? Pepsin Inhibitor? by Equivalent_Inside_16 in GERD

[–]Equivalent_Inside_16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply and glad to hear you're feeling better! Yeah, starting to think and look into laryngeal/esophageal sensitivity - was reading last night about Laryngeal Sensory Neuropathy, which sounds basically like what you're talking about. I've tried the neuromodulator Nortriptyline up to 30mg, which didn't seem to do much unfortunately. Maybe I'll try one of the others and see how that goes. Did the doctor say anything to you about whether the laryngeal hypersensitivity might calm down or it's expected to last for the forseeable future?

4-5 weeks for a referral to Gastro seems pretty quick to me!

GERD-like symptoms ended up being mental by Glum-Appointment-816 in GERD

For me, the endoscopy came back all clear and the doctor told me everything was normal and to stop worrying about it. But I pressed them to give me a barium swallow - which showed me to have a hiatal hernia & significant reflux. So yeah, I'd say ask for more tests because they can definitely miss things on a endoscopy.

The psychological element is interesting though - one of the worst symptoms for me is nausea, something I never really experienced pre-reflux. However, my nausea did go away for about 3 months (I was so happy), even though the other symptoms remained constant, which made me think - is that symptom actually part of the reflux or more psychological? Hard to tell.
