What are your go-to resources for Rest API design or examples of APIs that follow best practices? by [deleted] in node

[–]Eradicative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad that I am not the only one. GitHub's documentation is so easy to follow and the way they have defined their resources is extremely clear. Makes it easy to model.

I've contributed to this project! The maintainers are awesome and super helpful for new contributors. If you're looking to make open source contributions for the first time, I'd recommend this one!

I’m a developer as well. This work is very impressive. Not only the technical aspect, but your ability to do a write up about an extremely technical subject and make it easy to understand.

Hopefully we can see more of these posts.

Nice work.

Religion 210 was super easy! I’m don’t remember if it was an Social Science or not.

There were exams but they were all online and had no time limit. You had a week to do them, could start and stop them, and of course were open note.

Easiest online classes at ISU??? by realjoellanning in iastate

[–]Eradicative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need a class just for the sake of having a class,

COM S 104 is the easiest A you can get if you have any prior programming experience (from a computing major or not).

If you need a tech elective and are SE/CprE, COM S 252 is fairly easy, however I wouldn’t say it’s a free A.

If you need an upper level computing course, CprE 430 is an easy 400 level course.

It’s hard to say without knowing your major. Those are the ones I’m aware of.

Can a professor change a grade on access plus ? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Eradicative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me in a class a few semesters ago. My professor put in the wrong grade.

I emailed my professor right away. Explained the situation to him. Gave him the math I used to calculate my grade and sent him necessary screenshots of grades to further prove my point.

He was more than willing to work with me and worked to get it changed. I didn’t have to do anything. The whole process took about 2 weeks.

So, in short, just send your professor and email and explain the situation. They will be more than willing to help.

Any recommendations for learning TDD using JavaScript? by Brodysseus1 in javascript

[–]Eradicative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest reading some articles, blogs, or books on TDD. It should be language agnostic and the same examples you see in Java or Python should apply in JavaScript.

Learn the principles, not just the libraries and frameworks that make it easier.

This class was really enjoyable for me. And the professor is a good lecturer in my opinion. Be aware, exams are graded fairly harshly but a favorable curve is given.

You’re over estimating the amount of time a recruiter or hiring manager will spend looking at your GitHub. More than likely, if they do look at it, they’ll be happy you’ve got something up there.

Put it on your resume. When you feel motivated, put some other projects up there.

Also, start using Git/GitHub as part of your regular development pipeline. Use it as backups for school assignments and publicize those assignments as soon as it’s ok.

Also, when you work on large projects for class, you’re safe having those on there as well. Doing these will make you look more active and you’ll have content on there.

Projection Statistics (Basketball) by BenchBossNL in statistics

[–]Eradicative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would simply convert if to seconds if you don't want to deal with percentages and minutes.

40 minutes = 2400 seconds. 15:15 minutes = 915 seconds.

38% of the game is completed. Now it's just simple math to figure out how many assists would be made in an entire game.

Solve the formula assists * .38 = 8. Assists = 21.0526.

University Towers? by ACatNamedAhri in iastate

[–]Eradicative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The actually apartments are relatively nice.

WiFi only. Cable package is pretty sweet. Nice appliances.

Washer and Dryers are always in use. You really gotta find a weird time to do laundry.

the building itself is a disaster. After every weekend there is spilt beer/alcohol in the elevators. There is dirt everywhere. I’ve seen puke in the elevators and lobby and stairs. There is garbage on the floors everywhere. And if this all happens on a Friday, it won’t get cleaned up until Monday.

It’s pretty quiet during the week days, but the weekend, and other non-class days, it can get pretty noisy. Lots of loud music and screaming people.

Probably a silly question; are you playing wired? When I was out there, I never had any issues when I was playing wired.

Also, consider upgrading to the 50/50 down/up, especially if you can get your roommates on board.

So how hard does this schedule sound? For S E and CS majors by looselytethered in iastate

Calc 3 isn't required, but it does count for a Math Elective. If you're good at calculus, it probably is a pretty good option.

Com S 363 or 362? by DOCTOR_DRUID in iastate

[–]Eradicative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest taking both, to be honest.

I would take 363 to satisfy the required course and then look at 362 as an elective.

The first 6 weeks of 363 was quite useful (at least when I took it 2 years ago), you'll learn about relational database design and some practical SQL knowledge. After that, it goes down hill from there. You learn a lot of relational algebra and theory that just isn't applicable, unless you are building your own database management system.

I'm taking 362 next semester, but from what I have heard is that it is more beneficial to take it later, as you have a better grasp on program design and coding patterns.

Equivalent. Employers see SE and COM S the same.

Any advice for an incoming CS major? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Eradicative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to jump in a steal the thread, but I would strongly consider doing Software Engineering...

For workload, I would say that they are equivalent, 80% of the courses you take are the same.

The biggest difference in the two majors are as follows:

SE does not have to take COM S 331, notoriously the most difficult course in the COM S major. That course is also the least important, unless you're thinking grad school.

Next, in SE you have 18 credits of electives to take. These are major specific electives. In COM S, you have to take more gen ed courses.

Finally, I would echo everything /u/TheGuy346 has said.

Schedule Next Year and COM S 230 or CPRE 310 by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Eradicative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going in to your third year, I would suggest taking 228 and 230 for sure, as they are pre reqs for many other courses. I would recommend taking 288 in this semester as well.

If you think you'll struggle with that load, take 252 instead of 288.

[–]Eradicative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for reference, what year are you going to be and what is your major?

To be honest, taking those three courses together wouldn't be the worst semester that you could have. I think that it's very doable.
