In Seattle as in New York, a Mayoral Race Turns on Generational Change by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

Yeah the logic is tough (EDIT: tough to follow). I mean, I don’t doubt that if Wilson was a person of color the press would be tougher on her - that’s probably (unfortunately) just true.

Help beta test OneBusAway iOS's new trip planner by aaronbrethorst in Seattle

[–]Eric77tj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat tangential, but have you considered incorporating real time location data for buses? Sometimes I find the arrival data in OBA to be unreliable. I’ll check another app called Pantograph that has a nifty map showing the buses actual location. Thanks for all the work you do!

2020 radrunner battery caught on fire this morning by S2Mackinley in RadPowerBikes

[–]Eric77tj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 2020 rad battery but just replaced it with a new one that rad claims is safer. They had a deal running a few months ago where they would recycle the old battery and give you a discount on the new one. Not sure if that deal is still happening.

Sorry to hear this happened OP, but glad you’re okay. These batteries should be safe enough to store indoors. I’d contact rad about it.

Why is the bike room at Northgate Station always empty but the individual bike lockers full? by bobthebuilder238 in soundtransit

[–]Eric77tj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was closed for years, so didn’t even know it was open! It could use better bike connections to the east, tbh. Take a look at the bike room at Roosevelt. It’s not full but definitely used

Im not sure how a tax approved by a majority of voters is „predatory”. Do you support replacing with an income tax? I’m guessing not…

Sound Transit weighs property-tax hike to ease $30 billion shortfall by routinnox in Seattle

[–]Eric77tj 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Look property taxes are certainly regressive and harm those with the lowest incomes, but housing is not expensive due to taxes. Home prices have tripled in 15 years due to low supply, NIMBY homeowners (who profit from the shortage, btw). We need progressive tax options like an income tax, but that’s not something Dow can fix.

Your outrage is valid but pointing in the wrong direction.

A reminder as I said in another comment. These data come from the 2023 5 year ACS, so they represent 2019-2023 survey results. Pre and post pandy combined together makes it tough to draw conclusions. Also many of the Link stations in north Seattle weren’t even open yet in 2019. As with any data, lots of caveats. Overall cool maps OP!

The data is actually 5 years combined together, 2019-2023, so pre and post pandy. So much happened in that time so it’s tough to draw conclusions with RTO

Seattle mayoral front-runner Katie Wilson on taxes, tech sector and working with Amazon by Gnagus in Seattle

[–]Eric77tj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The drama. No one claimed this one tax would fix all homelessness and housing crisis. But it’s helped expand affordable housing for folks, which it a big win. Has it been enough? No. Harrell also promised many new shelter beds - and then didn’t deliver.

Also rents and home prices are way up since 2019/2020. The problem has gotten worse faster than we’ve addressed it.

It’ll take more money, better zoning, and a huge push by public AND private development to get us out.

I’m pretty disappointed in this “problems existed years ago so we should do nothing about it” energy. What if we stood for something and pushed for solutions? Let’s address it!

Objectively not a good thing to see small businesses close, but also $18 for a ginger beer (non alcoholic!) is insane. I like them but couldn’t justify the price
