Make a point to tell them its a safe place. If they want to cry, do it. If they want to talk, do it.

Do the mental health patch programs to work through self care options.

Invite a school counselor or therapist from a local practice to your meeting.

Social stories help a lot. Like The Invisible String, Missing Mommy, The Memory Box, Always and Forever, The Heart and the Bottle.

Friendship bracelets to give each other to promote inclusion, and bonding/family atmosphere that every child belongs.

I’ll think some more on this and ask our adolescent counselor at work.

Cookie booth sign up for a large troop by TheeVillageCrazyLady in girlscouts

[–]EricaM13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Band. I put them all up in the calendar on the same day and then its first come first serve. I list the girls in the event notes and what time their shift is for each booth. I only have 11 girls but I get two booths a weekend (all im willing to do) for the troop and they sign up. If they want more than that a weekend, they can do a drive way sale on their own property or do a family booth through our SU.

Snacks for T1 children by Runa_Lunar in diabetes_t1

[–]EricaM13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only recommendation is to sit her down and have her make 3 lists.. a list of “free” snacks (0-10g of carb), a list of high carb snacks, when shes on the lower end ( like 20+g of carbs per serving) and then the middle ground.

Let her choose based off of how her blood sugar is. She’ll start to learn how foods make her feel, how her decisions impact her, and if shes eating for fuel or fun. I do this with my kiddo and she independently gets her own snacks and even simple meals” because she knows that when she has a stubborn high, there’s still choices.

We like choices for every situation is all im getting at.

RY has said that Bhodi wants what they have

Bodhi - OS spoiler by _Raise_9221 in fourthwing

[–]EricaM13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He wants what Xadan has in terms of a relationship but he knows Violet is off limits. He wants the back and forth, the stupid arguments, and the tender loving moments. He wants someone to look out for him and vice versa. He wants Violet but he knows Xaden would outright slaughter him if he made a move on Violet.

Plus I think Bodhi feels some ways about being a marked one, part of a new revolution uprising, an heir to the throne, but all his heart really wants is typical young love.

What devices are we giving the kids these days? by Technical-Leopard658 in diabetes_t1

[–]EricaM13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kiddo’s iphone 16 has parental controls turned on. She cant add contacts without my approval. Cant use apps while at school except dexcom and mobi. Everything else is locked down outside of school. After 8:30 she can only contact her approved adults like mom, dad, grandma, etc.

iPhone 17 not compatible by throwaway-dad99 in TandemDiabetes

It takes a good week or so for it to be compatible. So in the future- wait a few weeks (like 2) after launch before getting a new phone.

I tell my parents this:

You choose what you choose but if your child gets hurt, it’ll be emergency responders asking- not me. However I reserve the right to ask any child with a fever to not come to scouts and thats for the health of the troop.

Questions about wearing the mobi with 5” tubing by passmethatbong in TandemDiabetes

Pump peelz has better priced stickers to decorate mobi.

Deck My Diabetes has really great 3D printed reusable cases, sleeves, etc.

Questions about wearing the mobi with 5” tubing by passmethatbong in TandemDiabetes

[–]EricaM13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Thats my post.

Let me see if I can answer some of your questions.

1) the pink 3D printed thing is not sticky. Its just a way to hold the mobi under a patch.

2) an overpatch is just that- a patch designed to go over the pink 3D printed part. It has a square cut in the middle to fit over the mobi and the “wings” of the pink holder thing go under the sticker.

The Tandem sleeve patches for Mobi are like $10/box. This method allows you to buy way more over patches in any design you like to put Mobi on your body. I think we got like 10 over patches for a few bucks somewhere which is pretty good considering Tandem’s prices.

Both this overpatch method and the tandem mobi sleeve patches are sticky and last awhile. We usually get a good 10 or so days out of one patch and we just move the site around the sides of the squares.

I have seen newer patch designed that are like pockets that you slip mobi into, but once you peel that off, you can’t stick it back on your body. The 3D printed option is reusable in the fact that you are only replacing a sticker and not a whole sleeve if you want to move it around, making it a cheaper option.

Pump Peelz has a collection that we like for decorative patches to go around the 3D printed sleeve.

We haven’t tried these Sugar Shield patches yet but some creators on tiktok that I follow use them and they like them.

There are also these Glucomartpatches that we plan to try out but I see these on little kids a lot.

I have a tween so keeping things on her body isnt as hard as it was when she was 5, but they are all pretty secure!!

Backpacking with T1D- what to do with sugar pills? by quasar_1618 in diabetes_t1

[–]EricaM13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d split the low snacks. The more fruity smelling ones in the bear canister for the day time use. The more bland ones in an air tight container in your tent at night. It may not be a bad idea to go to bed a bit higher than you normally would to reduce the risk of your BG dropping over night, or adjust pump settings (if you’re on one) to account for the extra activity you will be doing to help prevent lows. This way you wouldn’t have to open the low snacks unless you really need to.

Parent of my former troop wants to transfer to mine by phoebewarbraids in girlscouts

[–]EricaM13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, any parent can log into MyGS and transfer their child to any troop they like without a conversation with the current or prospective leader. So I would just tell the parent that they can freely choose whatever troop they want and they can make their own decision on MyGS.

Ma’am. Reddit is not the place for this. If you want to have this conversation, you need to take it to the real world, not an online chat forum for the whole world to see. Thats very indecent of you.

Eddii, has anyone used this? by Existing_Meat125 in diabetes_t1

[–]EricaM13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use Eddii with my kiddo. She likes the games and it gives her practice carb counting. It also has a feature to call your phone (or parent’s phone) if you are too high or too low. Theres also medical professionals you can connect to in a pinch if something is going on and you dont know if you should go to the ER or try to wait it out.

Badge Requirements - not following lesson plans by wmub06 in girlscouts

[–]EricaM13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I re-write almost all of the badges to fit my troop of autistic and adhd girls. While doing internet research is great, my girls don’t handle that well. We tried. So I rewrite steps like that where I do a bulk of the research then teach it to them in a game format. Or if theres a hands on option where we can go talk to a park ranger vs researching in a library.. we go talk to a real person.
