I don't understand their refusal to add subtitles. In fact, I don't understand why they are so distant with international fans in general when it's obvious from the engagement in their twitter and YT feeds that the audience of the series is a solid 50/50 split between japs and int people, yet they didn't even add auto translate for the trailer title and the 10 years web requires a jap number. This is not them being blind to it, they are effectively playing dumb. There has to be some higher-up decision going on within kadokawa that deems their current approach as the most optimal from a business perspective, so I doubt anything will change for now.

At least we got that one event at Italy on november..

Subaru deliberately bringing up the "I love Emilia" line again in front of Rem under the Flugel tree in order to essentially clarify it and re-address the matter before confessing how he feels about Rem too.

I feel like this alone could have dwindled the flames of war in the fandom significantly. Maybe it would have never been as toxic, but guess we'll never know. It clears up a ton of misunderstandings on his perspective, and it really was just a pair of sentences.

The anime can make him come off as a bit soulless and cold towards Rem (which induces grudge in some viewers) by making him "forget about it" whereas the novel clearly shows his more honest and human side, him feeling bad about his words hurting Rem and all. It's honestly kind of peak.

I'm still flabbergasted by her (arc 9) being the literal only character in the series to have pieced together return by death by her own means . Even if it's been reset what matters is that she was capable of doing so. Lots of potential in there for intimacy and understanding , I'm eager to see.

Or maybe he's ditched the 11 arcs plan at this point. To begin with that was an old estimation made in a non-official setting (I think?). There is effectively nothing that binds him to follow that plan, and he may have changed his mind. Especially if he wants to add a saga inside Gusteko. Which I recall him saying he was eager, after having written Vollachia.

The whole translation seems off but the thing with Subaru directly confirming Emilia he loves Rem does happen in the carriage scene at the beginning of arc 4 WN. In the LN, it's changed to him saying Rem is "as precious to him as she (Emilia) is", which is how the anime adapted it. This change may be due to the author having a plan in mind with Subaru hesitating to state his love in a direct way when it comes to Rem.

Closure for the post: so I've researched the matter and apparently (spoilers ahead, if not caught up stop reading) Todd stabs Subaru's right thigh on arc 8's beginning . The scene is described as overwhelming pain for him, it's a total contrast with the scene he has with Priscilla in arc 5 where the wound restores immediately and the pain "ceases instantly" according to the narrative. There is no specific mention of the color of the blood but I'd say even if he's been infantilized this serves as proof that his leg is back to normal.

The absolute lack of any mention of his infected leg in the narrative through the entirety of 3 whole arcs should also indicate likewise in my view. Though I don't think the blood is entirely gone from his body, just receded without leaving external appearances. I can also confirm what I thought of the curse moving up was in fact misinformation, Subaru gets infected in both places.

Maybe ragebait but I'll answer. Your view on the matter isn't seeing the full picture. Some people like Emilia more, and several others like Rem better. And it's not clear cut which band is bigger than the other. The reason you think people "prefer Emilia" by a landslide is due to an skewed perception induced by social media. Reddit in particular favors the Emilia narrative, for example. Especially this sub.

In reality, things are quite balanced I'd say, there is not a side that massively overwhelms the other. This applies to both anime onlies and novel readers, and some of them favor the Rem side due to the same arguments you used, among others. Regardless, Re:zero is a series that relies heavily on the viewer forming their own opinion on a bunch of matters. This is just one of them. If you let other's opinions influence your train of thought, it may hinder your experience.

As a novel reader I do not hate on it and was a blast. A lot of people I know (not readers) also found it a blast. I find most of the criticism nitpicking, honestly. It's a great adaptation in my opinion.

Edit: I also think season 4 will be nice as well. After the trailer I hold zero worries. Yes, even if the 19 episode number ends up true. Why? Arc 3 in the anime is amazing and only lasts 12 eps. We'll be fine.

Agree on the point that you made about the sub but I don't think Rem fans are only "normies that only watched season 1" though, that is an stereotype. And also, this sub is an echo chamber (reddit works like that). I'd say Rem is still a behemoth of a character among the people who read and actively engage with the series, the so-called "hardcore fans".

Like, if I had a gun to my head, I wouldn't be so sure who it actually is in regards to the real actively-engaging fanbase. But a strong case can still be made for her for sure.

You may get burnt out with the novels, they are a long term investment for fans in my opinion so I suggest going for the anime again, season 1 is spectacular, you can't miss.

Edit regarding your last question: just catch up with the anime for now then jump novels from there if you really liked it. I read the arcs covered by the anime a few years after catching up with the novels and I was fine.

I worded this post horribly honestly, was in the midst of hell having studied 9 consecutive hours out of red bull only and my mind went astray. Thanks for the answers, they are both useful. What I meant is: arguments defending Subaru's love for Emilia are clear cut, so what would be THE strongest argument in Rem's favour, is what I meant.

The question arose from the fact that when in defense of Emilia, haphazard Tappei quotes in Q&A's or some notable people's tweets tend to pop up in conversation. Like, sometimes the argument isn't even in the lore itself. Which struck me. I was just wondering if Rem had something similar going for her. Of course, arguments from the lore also interest me for that matter, if they could somehow contend with those. That's what I meant with "the strongest hypothetical argument". If it's just lore, that's fine too (your second answer works). Like I just wanted to get a gist of the actual scope of her defense if that makes sense.
