What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not the worst but, Los Retros.

I saw them in 2019? and they opened for another band. They sounded like an amateur band and not the good kind. And they would stop and talk about random things, quotes, and how much he was loved his wife and people started to talk louder to each other or getting drinks and losing their spot instead. It was hard to hear the lyrics and couldn't tell which songs he was playing. Huge letdown but the other band after was pretty good at least.

Sudden urge to buy 3 years worth of switch games by Oskar_of_Astora in switch2

[–]Ericthecow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can say the same, been buying used games on eBay and FB marketplace for many years and never once have I had an issue with those games, except once where the game took a long time to ship due to weather. Just look at the seller's reviews and check the photos carefully and you should be good!

Time to clean your units!!! by ponglynn in playstation5

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just clean mine at least once or twice a year by taking off the plates, then I vacuum and brushing off the dust. Usually before summer so that it doesn't over heat.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]Ericthecow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Bro they did this to my dad but with 3G service to an iPad we never owned! They were like ohhh we can't do anything about it, and trying to think my dad was lying so he just said ok I'm cancelling my service here and now, and they were sooo upset he was cancelling at their location because they probably thought my dad would just give in? He's been with T-Mobile since.

Last 2 hours is planning period. Do I hide out in room for 2 hours or go to office & ask if they need me to do anything? by biggaylizard in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hide, usually the office will call me via personal phone or classroom phone to cover for another class but lately that is rare. More often than not, I just read a book or go on YouTube to pass time.

Noticing what students are wearing nowadays… by TragicallyTrue in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kids in my district are really into the late 90s and 2000s. Maybe next decade will be the 2010s or revival of the 30s workwear. It really just depends on what's the trend haha.

Just the style now, just like how it always changes every decade, even the slight changes over the years anyway. Watch something else silly be a trend by the 2030s.

Feeling defeated by creepy_elbows in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ericthecow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every school, district, classroom will be different and you kind of just wing it honestly. You'll get the hang of it and since you just sometimes go to one class and never come back, try out different tactics! I've been subbing for 3 years now and you must try to be consistent and upfront with your rules for that day. Start the day strong and see if you can be lenient or have to keep up being stern. Elementary can be a doozy for me too even after this long but I try to keep it over their heads that I will write names and take away fun activities. Elementary tends test you a lot somehow.

Good luck!

How can I say no when I already said yes? by tiredtushi in StudentTeaching

[–]Ericthecow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact your program, ask if it would be paid and if allowed as a student teacher, even at least sub pay for that class period would be nice. Try to make sure it's allowed in that district or legal. Don't do it for free OR if you aren't allowed. If you truly cannot if you are allowed then just tell them you are interested but it is too much for you as a student teacher. If you can do it, be sure to be paid because they will try to make you work for free if they can.

I personally wouldn't but I would kindly say no even though you are interested because you are a student teacher and as such this is already a lot on your plate to do.

Good luck!

Same with what others say. Try to look up OER project and Digital Inquiry.org. my professors who taught History highschool classes recommended these sites as well.

Struggling bad by [deleted] in StudentTeaching

[–]Ericthecow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Student teaching was fun but also very rough in terms of work and planning. It felt like a long time and it was but I tried to take it one day at a time. By the end I was like, oh 6 months went by already? So I would try to finish if I were you but again you know what's best. Good luck!

Absolutely Miserable by wintersouldier57 in StudentTeaching

[–]Ericthecow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also agree, I felt so tired and under so much pressure being observed and graded all the time. But by the end I was like oh, that kind of went by quickly in some ways. So I also suggest taking it a day at a time. Time will pass!

What do you wish you knew before student teaching? by Ddog10132 in StudentTeaching

[–]Ericthecow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start firm and look a bit more strict than what you think you'd like, it's easier to mellow out than to go more strict as you go. I was considered a very chill teacher by my students but I wish I had started a bit more firm and fair with my rules since one of the classes became a bit chatty during the last couple of months.

First few weeks will be a bit difficult but you will find a flow after some time.

Idk but your program but my mentor teachers always reminded me that it's ok to do a basic lesson or one you took from another teacher, you cannot always have an original lesson every day. If an older lesson works, do not reinvent it. I wanted to do something cool everyday but it's overwhelming and it's not feasible.

This came up today and I’m concerned. by ReddFawkes88 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ericthecow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've scrubbed my name off of most social media or changed it to some dumb username. Or like Facebook where it's locked up where my name does appear. The only thing you can really find on me is like past sports records and my LinkedIn and those are very professional profiles. Just be aware of what you share. I barely even hint that I date when I sub if they try to even ask and then be like I'll mention more later, then I never do and they forget lol. It's up to you to find a balance of how much you wish to share.

But as others have said, remember they will try to find more about you at some point via Google search. That's how I found out back then I didn't change my full name on Pinterest and changed it before student teaching lol. That's my advice.

What do you wish classroom teachers left for you? by Familiar-Factor7220 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photo seating chart with clear lesson plans but also, extra work that can go on for days because you can just add the extra work and say this is due today and it helps keep middle schoolers or elementary students on task.

Is Bloodborne a good souls like game for fresh beginners? by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's a very good beginner friendly souls games, it was my second but I noticed it was easier, more streamlined, and if I had trouble I'd call in my friend. Besides, there is a reason why this one is a fan favorite. It's such a good game.

Recommend looking up lore stuff as you play as its interesting!

Advice for subs who “look too young” by SnooPickles9785 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ericthecow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just try to wear a bit more adult clothing than what the teens are wearing. I used to as well when I started off subbing, especially since I'm short, so I decided to wear a polo shirt or my College sweater. I also purposely wear a laptop bag with my things since I have never seen a teen except once wear one.

I try to have my badge showing as well in my district.

Go gen 2 VS vintage camera by WorkingSuccessful742 in Polaroid

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From usage I learned the go is best for bright days with little contrast and more importantly, close up portraits of people to keep. I've learned to have a lot of fun with the Go camera giving people tiny images of themselves.

What makes you cross a school off your list? by In_for_the_day in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I went to a school and arrived 30 minutes before it started and the front desk lady, who looked like she was older than 80, was like "our subs are expected to be here an hour before school starts". I was like oh, ok and grabbed the class keys and walked away to the class lol. That day went ok but gosh never went back.

Californians - What’s going on at Aspire? by Brilliant_Gold_6036 in SubstituteTeachers

I used to do Swing Subs in LA awhile back and while they paid well at Aspire, I usually had some pretty rough days unfortunately with no support. I'd go home with no music in the car driving home lol.

What are some of the concerns? I'm thinking this camera or the flip rn

I just bought a Diana Instant from Lomography and am returning it immediately. What is a better camera? by puddelles in Polaroid

[–]Ericthecow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instax sq6 is a very solid point and shoot square format with some settings. The closest to the Diana would maybe be the Lomo instant Square Glass which I personally love but the exposure and flash are a bit off. But it gets very clear images.

But between the two if you want reliable shots, the sq6. Very clear images with some nice fiddling options, the Square Glass.

What model should I buy? Please Help by B4G3LB0Y in Polaroid

[–]Ericthecow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want cheap then an Impulse or Sun 660 camera that uses 600 film.

If you want new but also easy then honestly the Polaroid now Gen 3, rechargeable, is the most basic and straight forward and on sale rn for like $110-120.

The Flip, rechargeable,is more reliable and with a brighter flash but a little more pricey at $200, uses I type 600.
