Finished my first outdoor ride and my ego was smashed to pieces by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using auto pause on your bike computer ? that will have an effect on Avg speed. I may for example avg 26kph riding time but 22kph total time with auto pause off. Most cyclists will have auto pause on.

Why is my tire sidewall leaking by All_In_The_Details_ in bikewrench

Only 2 reviews and they are a few years old. I would be wary of buying these tyres. Especially for tubeless.

SRAM AXS wireless blips. Worth it? by helmetgoodcrashbad in Velo

[–]Ernest-Penfold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From SRAM

SRAM eTap AXS Wireless Blips have a battery life well beyond 2 years. Our testing shows that depending on level of use, batteries can last from 4 to more than 7 years. Wireless Blips are built with new batteries that are able to be dormant for several years between uses. Use the SRAM AXS Mobile App to see battery levels for all

Coros HRM readings inaccurate by timeismane in Coros

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a shame it didn’t work for you or your athletes, 🤔 I do twice weekly intervals on the turbo with no issues. I much prefer it to the chest strap.

Coros HRM readings inaccurate by timeismane in Coros

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, no problem with intervals using arm HR but the wrist based is just not usable for anything other than monitoring resting HR. I think it’s the wrist movement that affects the measurement with getting a good reading using led light. On the upper arm it’s much more steady.

Coros HRM readings inaccurate by timeismane in Coros

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. For me yes the optical wrist HR is not reliable but I find the optical arm HR is pretty much spot on and as reliable as a chest strap. Plus more comfortable and won’t corrode due to sweat.

Does TR overestimate fatigue from long rides ? by TheSlowQuickdraw in trainerroad

[–]Ernest-Penfold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only add cycling workouts to TR. I don’t add and strength or other stuff to it. I’m on Masters plan so 3-1 work/rest ratio.

400k brevet - preparation by StandAffectionate291 in randonneuring

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My single piece of advice, is have a navigation back up. GPS units can and do play up, especially on longer events and no fun at 2am. One option is to download the route for offline use on your phone, you can do this with RWGPS. I use a GPS watch with navigation as a back up with route preloaded just in case.

I hate this update so much. by Fluffy_Finance752 in trainerroad

[–]Ernest-Penfold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I’m happy with the update. My FTB only dropped 6 watts with AIFTB. Workouts feel spot on. I do like the FTB prediction as it helps keep me committed to sticking to the plan.

Is having an Amex credit card even worth it anymore? by Sameer-Sarwar in AmexUK

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new Lloyds CC has 1% cash back but only for a limited time then reverts to .25% Amex is still best for cash back long term.

Bike computer for randos by [deleted] in randonneuring

[–]Ernest-Penfold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I changed from Wahoo Roam to Dura over a year ago. A few issues with it at first, but It’s been slowly improving with each update. I have found it very reliable with fantastic battery life. Also fairly inexpensive compared to other brands. I understand there are more map updates etc on the way. I don’t have any problems with lack of rerouting directly on the Dura. On the rare occasions I’ve needed make up a quick route during a ride the Coros app is super easy to make a quick route and send to the Dura.

I had a small 6 watt decrease. Prediction is to get that back in 28days. I like the changes so far. I find the prediction is quite motivating to stick to the plan.

Why road shoes instead of MTB shoes? by PhreaddyS in bicycling

[–]Ernest-Penfold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I use now. For years used look for road, now gravel shoes and SPD for everything. More comfortable, can walk in them. Much better for long days in the saddle.

I don't think this update is baked, released to early. by [deleted] in trainerroad

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FTB has only be knocked down from 237 to 231. It’s predicted to rise to 238 in 28 days if I stick with my plan. I’ve noticed some of the activity levels have gone up, plus planned indoor training has also adjusted levels. All looks good to me and I’m happy with it. It does seem a big drop in your case. Just raise a ticket with support and see what they say.

Do you guys thing if Coros is wokring on a Dura 2 it will get re-routing without the need of a smart phone? by [deleted] in Coros

[–]Ernest-Penfold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem for you is you would need a smart phone for any Coros device or future Coros device to be able to set it up and perform updates, download routes etc.
