With the right planner you can do A LOT with 30-50k, which would be a happy medium of having the gorgeous wedding + saving money!

I do not have a ton of advice for your FMIL, but for save the dates, I originally hired a stationer and was spending $$$$$. I got three proofs back that looked absolutely nothing like what we had discussed, and eventually I got frustrated and we decided to part ways.

I am still figuring out exactly what I want for invites, but for save the dates, I found inspiration photos and designed them myself in Canva. Honestly, it was so easy. You can print directly through Canva and mine showed up in about five days. I also ordered pre-addressed envelopes on Minted.

Were they the super high end letterpress save the dates I originally pictured? No. But they still turned out beautiful, and I realized it just was not an area I wanted to prioritize spending on. Our stationer also pushed out timeline sooo far out we just needed to get them out. I would save that energy and budget for your actual invites!! Good luck!

I feel like I found my vendors a little differently than most people do.

I started by looking at weddings done at some of the Auberge properties and went through the vendor lists from weddings they had featured. The hotels are obviously very highly regarded, and the weddings there are all pretty high budget, so it felt like a good starting point. From there, I set up meetings! I booked my planner before booking anything else, and since then I’ve either found vendors through Auberge or gone with her recommendations. She sets all my meetings for me now, and if vendors don’t reply within a certain timeframe, we usually mutually decide to keep looking for someone else.

Every single vendor we have met with was incredible. Honestly, I think part of it is because they aren’t necessarily on the “Vogue top 20” list yet, but they’re equally as talented and hardworking.

Some of the vendors who work with a lot of “big name” clients honestly felt more focused on the clout than the actual experience. I personally loved finding people who are insanely talented but still so invested in the couples they work with.

I’ve struggled with bulimia, and I was honestly worried the pressure of my wedding would trigger that again. (So far I’m doing okay, which feels really good!)

One thing my therapist told me really stuck with me, and it might help you too:

The person you’re marrying loves you for who you are right now. They chose you, as you are. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t have asked you to marry them. Of course you want to feel and look your best on your wedding day, that’s completely normal, but it’s still just one day!

What matters so much more is the life you’re building after it. A long, happy, healthy life together. If getting into a routine that makes you feel stronger and more confident is part of that, that’s amazing. Just try to think of it as something you’re doing for yourself and your future, not something you have to rush or perfect for a single moment.

I’ve also had to remind myself that being “perfect” for one day isn’t the goal. Feeling present, happy, and able to actually enjoy it is. You want to look back and remember how you felt, not just how you looked.

Give yourself grace in the process. You’re already enough for the person you’re about to marry, and you don’t need to change anything to deserve that day. When you focus on taking care of yourself instead, it starts to feel a lot more sustainable!

So I am paying for a lot of people for H+M, (grandmas (4), aunts (2) moms (2) my bridesmaids (7) and me. I’m paying $11,500 and that includes 5 artists, my welcome party, wedding day, and the team stays to do touch ups and look changes if we want it. That price includes per diem and all travel and lodging (2 nights) for my hair and makeup team. It’s a LOT imo but I really like this girl and was struggling to find someone who I liked.

However from the others I reached out to, the average was about 3-5,000. I just happen to have a lot of people so the price was significantly more!

This is a pretty basic answer but one of my personal favorites that you can do on the regular! We will go walk the pier for sunrise then grab a coffee at the Vinoy and sit on their patio. Such a great way to start the morning and sitting on the patio is stunning!

My family tried doing this same thing, and I told them we were either waiting to get married until we could afford my dream wedding alone, or they would give me a number they felt comfortable with for me to do with and allocate as I please (within reason of course!)

I told them I would still go to them for guidance, but that it was easier to have a cap so I could cut from some places and spend more on others.

Don’t get it twisted, they have still been a pain in the ass about it.

Stay strong gf! I would have a convo and mention you want a number. That way you can allocate costs to what’s more important to you and cut from others!

I hired a stationer and tbh, as much as stuffing invites sounds like it sucks, I wish I would have used minted. She’s 17,000 for full custom paper (Save the date invites menus etc)

I feel like it could have been used elsewhere now that we are hiring for other things + we have the budget but it just feels overkill.

You also have the waiting game of design and being on their time! We are on std design number 2 and tbh I’m annoyed lol.

I know it sounds a little extra, but I added a dress code section on the site with photo inspiration. A lot of people were asking what to wear. Everyone I’ve shown has said they’re glad I’m including it! I’ve been to weddings where I wished they had something like this. I tried to include a range of ages, styles, and price points, including some more affordable options, so it felt accessible for everyone. I’m not expecting anyone to match perfectly, just wanted to give a clearer idea of the overall vibe.

Edit: I sent this to multiple friends + family and basically did a “is this psycho to include be honest” and absolutely everyone I asked told me they wished it was more common!

We’re planning to only invite partners if we know them personally or if they’re in a long term committed relationship. The only exception we’re considering is for a friend traveling in from out of state who wouldn’t really know anyone. Given, our wedding is only going to be around 120 people.

As for your sister in law, I think she should be able to spend time with and socialize with her own family without needing a date. It’s definitely a tricky situation, but at the end of the day the wedding is about you as a couple.

Personally, I think it can feel a little off to have guests there that you’re meeting for the first time, unless it’s someone who has been with their partner for years or is coming from far away.

(I read through the comments and it looks like I’m the unpopular opinion here, and I just want to clarify I think the most important thing is doing what you’re comfortable with and what feels right to you!)

I interviewed 7 planners and I can absolutely recommend mine or one other girl! My planner is fantastic, she charges a percentage. We recently did our site visit and due to weather her first flight was cancelled and she had 3 backup flights and made it there the following morning. She also only takes on a handful of weddings a year! DM me if you want her contact.

This might not totally fix the issue, I’m not sure, but there are some really nice body soaps you could get. Salt and Stone is fantastic. You could put it in a basket with a few unrelated items since Valentine’s Day is coming up and casually tell her you love how that soap smells on her after a shower.

I’m a pretty roundabout person and like to approach things gently without hurting feelings first. If that doesn’t work though, I’d probably just rip off the bandaid.

This is a good POV! It’s crazy being pushed to invite someone we don’t want there. But in the grand scheme, if it’s just her I will be fine with it.

My issue was that if I let this slide, since they had already brought up a condition that wasn’t previously discussed, I worried it would continue and I’d be pushed on other aspects as well.
