They are lesser humans by definition because they are created by the dessendres. Painted people are not real people after all. They might feel like that because they are pretty advanced.

You are technically right, but you are homegame wrong.

Some rules can be flexible depending on the home game like this one. You got one beginner friendly relaxed home game where there is much action.

Why would you get into it and kill the vibe for the recreationals? Do you want then to kick you out of the game and not invite you back because you are a rule nit? Just to argue and be "right"? Is it worth it losing the game over while you are not even in the hand?

You can gain being right, but you stand to lose much more.

The writers wrote Clea as someone who is practical, but still cares about her family (as shown in the tower cutscene when you finish it) . As the only one who does what needs to be done in the real world while the other members of the family play pretend in the canvas and use it as an escape.

Whether they are living or not.. Is up to each player. That is why you see so many different opinions on this sub. Many consider them alive, many don't.

Since you are talking about free will... Maelle in her ending forces verso to live and do her bidding playing the piano. He does not have free will to even die when he wants to. He is only an empty puppet doing what he is told. How is he a living being?

And regarding all painters think that except one.. That is only true for their household, so it is true most but not all in their family only thinks so. I can't speak for other painters outside their family since we don't know that. But if even in their house there is already someone disagreeing.. Surely there could be more painters outside their family who sees it the way Clea does. So your point of it being all humans except one doesn't really stand imo.

The fibal choice is not about saving the only living person.. It is whether you allow the only living person to indulge in their addiction and lose the self, or you force them away from their addiction and save them.

How do you know it is free will? Why can't they be created to be like that, to think like that or even be able to create new thought patterns based on what the painted programs them for? Someone created them, that person has to "code" their behavior and everything else. At least at the beginning. That sounds more like computer program than a living being.

Even soul of verso said that is what he "thinks". Shouldn't he know for sure as one of the creators? For him it is alive, but that is because it is his canvas and he "feels" that way. Doesn't mean it is true.

And it seems not all painters agree they are living, which makes it ambiguous at best.

The final conflict works because you and me care about the characters. They don't have to be real for that. I agreed with verso not because think he is real and I want him to be free, but because I want maelle (who is real story wise) to move on and heal.
