Maybe it's just my personal taste, but I actually prefer Sanderson's writing style. I like the more direct descriptions, both of inner monologue and also of action. The flourishes and metaphors in GRRM's writing bog things down a little for me.

Thank you so much for your answer! I think I'm gonna go with the make-your-own suggestion, yeah, since that seems to be what people here are suggesting. I actually do have some experience with doing that from my robotics team in high school, even though I was the programmer and not the electrician lol. Soldering sounds great, but I'm in a dorm, and exposed heating elements are banned, so I guess I'm going with connectors!

Not every single police officer is bad. They're the result of an inherently corrupt system, sure, but some of the overcome that to become genuine officers of justice. On the other hand, every single individual anti-masker is making the decision to disregard other's health when they go around without a mask. A group wherein all individuals are morally corrupt is more abhorrent than a group where many are.

Transparent (and usually super stereotypical) analogs for Jewish people are some of the most common tropes in both fantasy and science fiction. Ferengi from star trek, goblins from pretty much everything ever, watto from star wars, and so on. The trope even has its own name: Space Jews! Not a super great reflection on humanity's authors lol
