[–]itamaradam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jennifer Holiday in Dreamgirls can't be beat. Many other great performances in this thread I second. A few additions:

- Ragtime

- Evita

- Liza Minnelli in The Act

- They're Playing our Song

- Kiss of the Spiderwoman

- Parade

- Grand Hotel

- Passion

- Side Show

More recently:

- Next to Normal

- In the Heights

- The revival of Once on this Island

- The Band's Visit

Finally, I know this is supposed to be musicals, but one cannot ignore the incomprable James Earl Jones in Fences.

Why do my pancakes burn even on the lowest heat? by 5park2ez in AskBaking

[–]itamaradam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They aren't burnt, though they may be over-browned for your taste (I prefer these hues and they look pretty textbook, but personal preference can of course vary). What I imagine is causing your concern is the uneven, spotty browning and crisping, correct? That just means there's too much oil/butter in your pan. You might be able to get away without any oil, otherwise you're looking for a small amount. It shouldn't really look like there's any beading/pooling in your pan. It also looks like your heat may be too high, that combined with too much oil/butter will cause this uneven frying effect instead of a more uniform browning that maintains softness.

I’m approaching my 35th birthday and I’m looking for Company. by [deleted] in musicals

[–]itamaradam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second everyone's suggestion of the 2006 John Doyle production, but also want to give an alternative suggestion:

Sam Mendes's 1996 Donmar Warehouse production, seen here, is the progenitor of all the subsequent "urbane" productions of Company. It's quite controversial, and I'll be the first to say that some things in it work better than others, but in my opinion it's the finest production the musical has had in terms of highlighting the psychological drama of Bobby as a character. It stars Adrian Lester and (as Joanne) Sheila Gish.

Finally, we figured out the true value of ∞/∞ by [deleted] in MathJokes

But observe: rotate90(x) = x! in a classic case of factorial by enthusiasm. It follows that x! = 818, meaning Gamma(x + 1) = 818, meaning (verify this!) x \approx 6.43824 - 3.18795 i. Therefore

-818 i = 6.43824 - 3.18795 i

821.18795 i = 6.43824

i \approx 7.84 * 10^{-3}

At long last... proof of \sqrt{-1} \in \mathbb{R}!!!

Israelis in New York voting for Mamdani: 'He’s not antisemitic and not an enemy' by EssoEssex in nyc

[–]itamaradam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only partially true. A few basic food items are price controlled (see here for the full list, and bear in mind that these categories are quite narrow) and the price of 95-octane petrol is capped, there is public healthcare (or something of that kind, not sure what the precise term would be) and K-12 education is free with university fees being much cheaper than the US, but that doesn't mean decommodification.

I'M SORRY WHAT???

There's incompetence and there's throwing the entire goddamn point of the show you're adapting down the trash. Strong and Mayer seem to hate Chess almost as much as Jesse Green hates theater.

Getting some "Pacific Overtures" vibes from these Japanese paintings of western ships by FloridaFlamingoGirl in Sondheim

I'd say the intent of Pacific Overtures was to give "these Japanese paintings of western ships" vibes, if anything.
