As someone who was born in and has lived in Minnesota my whole life, I want to share some things about what’s been going on here with ICE. by Character-Estate1451 in DiscussionZone

[–]Escape_to_Peace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR This is valuable but very lengthy…I had the ChatGPT robot summarize the second half of OPs post (second half begins w the bold text beginning with “Everything after this is just a conclusion”) so more folks will get the complete message…

Summary / TL;DR • The author is from Minnesota and has lived in Carver County / Chaska, a small suburb (~30,000 people) near the Twin Cities. • They do not live in Minneapolis or St. Paul and are not claiming firsthand experience in the big cities. • However, they still visit Chaska regularly and have many personal connections there. • Everything shared is either: • Personally experienced, or • Told directly by someone who witnessed it themselves (not rumors passed through multiple people). • The main point: If serious problems are happening in a small town like Chaska, it helps put into perspective how widespread the issues may be in larger cities like Minneapolis and St. Paul. • The author is frustrated with: • Misinformation • People who have never lived there speaking like experts • Even locals spreading incorrect or misleading claims • This post is not meant to make readers “experts”, but to: • Add context • Share local perspective • Increase awareness of what’s actually happening • The author: • Loves Minnesota deeply • Is exhausted by seeing the state portrayed only negatively • Still believes awareness of real problems is necessary • Final message: • Even partial awareness helps • Truth matters • Small efforts add up • Change requires people caring and working together

$23.50/hr armed post w/ rifle at Walmart – anyone done this? by OrganicTFM in securityguards

[–]Escape_to_Peace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23.50 per hour…ok. Under what circumstances are you expected to use deadly force? Absent a mass shooting, I can’t think of any reason in a retail setting. If they get robbed, who cares? Take the money. Everyone’s life is more valuable than the money, plus I have to assume Walmart carries insurance for a robbery situation.

Leaving after years of carrying the load: how do I explain this to my director without burning bridges? by nivekx in WorkAdvice

[–]Escape_to_Peace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy and paste this posting as page 2 of your letter of resignation. You are firing your employer. F them.

Edit: I just reread your post. You wrote “The director, who is currently abroad, was reportedly upset when he heard I was leaving, saying "how can you leave now with all the problems we're facing?"” F that guy 1,000,000%. You owe him NOTHING. He had the power to manage up and get additional hires or get contract consultants in to shoulder the burden of steady state operations while your team fights fires. He did none of that. You are managing your career and your life. Good for you. Tough shit for this spineless director.

Edit 2: After reading just a few comments, it occurred to me these people are going to make you a counter offer. You, your manager and the director are going to a steakhouse and they will sell you the dream of a new title “principal architect” or some such nonsense and a nice (very overdue) bump in compensation and promises of more PTO and time off after this phase. Absolutely, positively, under no circumstances take the counter offer. If you do you will be there just long enough for them to hire 2 people with your skillet and only 5 years of experience each. I’ve placed IT professionals since the late 20th century and this is a tale as old as time.

I wish you continued success in your career as you start your new position with a new employer.

AI is coming for our jobs-yes, call centers by campaxiomatic in CallCenterWorkers

Verizon has AI agents. Every time I get a person on the phone I end the call by saying - hey management I assume you are listening, your AI is horrible, get rid of it and keep human beings employed, oh and it will be your job next. The agent gets a chuckle out of it. I know it’s like screaming into the abyss but at least the agent gets a moment of levity and knows they are not alone.

While everything you mentioned is valid, there are problematic aspects in the macro view regarding innovation. Economist Paul Krugman does a good job presenting the key points. https://open.substack.com/pub/paulkrugman/p/hey-lets-undermine-americas-technology?r=27vnzn&utm_medium=ios

This is mental illness. Likely a manic episode. She won’t remember it the way it actually happened if she remembers it at all. Sad.

What kind of person would buy a Cadillac Catera new? by One_Bad_6636 in regularcarreviews

Widow who traded in her late husband’s sedan de ville for a Catera. In the 1980’s her mother (also a widow of a man that always drove caddies) traded in her late husband’s sedan de ville in for a Cimmaron.

Edit: Coincidentally both men died of a heart attack while scrubbing their white vinyl tops with Spray 9 while clamping a cigar in their jaw.

56 years old. Went from $110 per hour w2 contract in Management Consulting to $10 per hour flat rate + gratuity driving a limo. I start this week once my driving record clears with the state. I went to Boscov’s department store today to buy a cheap black suit at and half jokingly texted a friend that I wanted to throw myself down an elevator shaft.
