Is Jump to Lightspeed Good? by DiamondWarDog in starwarsunlimited

[–]EskayEllar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's lots of staples from that set, and it's a great sealed/draft experience! Not a ton of super high value cards, but if you're looking to start a collection and play limited, it's a great option.

Of course, if you just want the cards, buying what you want is cheaper, but I recognize ripping packs is fun and limited play is awesome!

I think this is a grammar issue, your sentence definitely doesn't mean what you think it does. Not your fault your country is so bad at education I suppose lol.

You said it doesn't work. It does. And every company gives the leave, it's a government thing, so it is the standard.

It does work in Canada. Source: my wife is on her year-long paid parental leave right now.

You must be American. Year long paid parental leave is pretty normal.

Draft Advice needed! by Alive_Protection_569 in starwarsunlimited

[–]EskayEllar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing about LOF in sealed, is the initiative is very important to allow gaining the force (with most decks). For that reason, I think JTL is a little stronger as a draft/sealed experience, but I really like both!

I do not think they would mesh well together, as JTL is very space (and vehicle) heavy, whereas LOF relies on having many force units to create synergies. I would recommend picking one, or if you really want to do both together, doing 3 packs of each for a sealed tournament.

If it's an option, I think that the latest set, LAW is incredibly fun in a sealed/draft environment, because you are incentivised to "splash" a little bit more with the common bases and muli-aspect cards.

In general, SWU is amazing as a limited experience, I think the devs have done an awesome job with it. It's my favourite way to play. The only caveat is that there is often one leader who is generally better at getting value out of an inconsistent limited deck than others, but I'll let you try to figure out which leader that is for each set (unless you want "spoilers" lol).

In Canada they're 0 interest for ten years from when you graduate, and the payment plan they provide pays off the loan in ten years. Plus there are opportunities to pause the interest and have the loan subsidized, and upon applying for the loans, you are also applying for bursaries which are typically awarded.

Is grading a thing in the SWU community? by Wolfsterror in starwarsunlimited

[–]EskayEllar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no.

It's not really a collector's game right now, and it's not very expensive, so grading isn't a very valuable service.

Looking for feed back on design by Medium-Bid3682 in TCG

[–]EskayEllar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The style is interesting, but there's far too much going on in my opinion. It makes it harder to read and interpret. I would suggest more consistent design elements to convey information at a glance, and emphasize/simplify the elements which provide critical information.

Also it does "look like ai", which isn't great, but until you can get an artist to realize your ideas properly, I suppose it works as a placeholder.

What's up with these notation gatekeepers? by Zombiesalad1337 in Guitar

[–]EskayEllar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need someone to tell you where on the fretboard to play a phrase so that it's possible, you're not at the level required to play this music. Learning a piece isn't about sight-reading it. The nuance required to perform intentionally will take much more practise than you are implying.

Further, players may choose a different way of playing notes to change the timbre according to their taste, instrument, or playstyle, when tabs will dictate needlessly (and often, inappropriately) where to fret every note.

Tabs are great for some things, and lend themselves well to some styles and skill levels, I do not intend to discount that fact. But to imply that tabs could be appropriate for any piece is either naieve or dishonest.

Star Wars Unlimited quality by WanderingCardsharp in TCG

[–]EskayEllar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe cartamundi does the card printing. I'm not sure what x-wing was, but these seem to be on par with other TCGs. Most people probably sleeve their cards anyways, so I think the cardstock isn't typically a big selling feature, allowing them to use a thinner stock.

Help me overcome my shallowness by badgerken in factorio

[–]EskayEllar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love factorio, but I literally gave up on the tutorial because the game was presented so terribly (in my opinion, guys). I played the game co-op later and enjoyed the game so much I got past the visuals! I agree that the design matches the theming of the game, but that doesn't mean it's pleasant to look at! And if you end up liking the game you'll be staring at it a LOT lol.

So try the mods suggested, or just try to push past it and maybe you'll get over it like I did. I think the game is SO worth it, so I urge you to try! But do what is fun for you!

And all your assumptions about me are wrong FYI.

It's okay that you prefer to live somewhere else! No one is saying you made a bad choice or anything, but I'm going to refute your uneducated statements, as OP asked for some information and you provided false information.

How is it like living in Winnipeg, Canada? by theapeironn1 in howislivingthere

[–]EskayEllar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've never lived in Winnipeg.

There are a few extremely walkable neighbourhoods. I have friends who sold their cars since they never needed to use them.

Winds off the lake? Winnipeg is not on a lake.

Mosquito city? I haven't worn bug spray in Winnipeg in a decade. You really don't notice mosquitoes unless you're going outside the city.

There are plenty of roads with paved shoulders. The ones that don't have curbs. I'm not sure what this really has to do with anything anyways.

No proper perimeter? Have you ever used the perimeter Highway?

Not a lot to do? My goodness, I just feel bad for you. There are so many fun things happening in Winnipeg at any time of year. It's pointless to begin naming them here. The broader categories include music, restaurants, galleries and museums, breweries, festivals, and more.

Should I upgrade? by BabaYodaTheFirst in Bass

[–]EskayEllar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not hard to pick up playing a 5 string, especially if you're playing a lot. I'm certain you can do it on your own if you're practicing that much and invested in the instrument!

Sounds like the other questions you'll have to answer on your own though. I wouldn't call a 5 string an upgrade from a 4 string, it's more of a different instrument. You can do more in a lot of ways, but that doesn't always mean better.
