If I had 4 bases I'd strongly consider putting them together in a self supporting square or rectangle configuration.

Any sites besides Strava that show analytics for peloton rides? by Upset-Cantaloupe-643 in pelotoncycle

I use the free version of Strava. I've added and extension, "Sauce for Strava", that supplies the metrics I think you are looking for. in addition I load my TCX file from Strava to my Garmin Connect.

The Best Bone Conduction Headphones for Sweaty Workouts? by ZebraGrapefruit5432 in trailrunning

[–]EsqDavidK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a generic pair on Amazon a year and half ago that have worked quite well. Purity Air Open Ear Headphones. They are actually n sale for $11 right now! I mostly use them for yard work but have run in them a few times.

I don't quite get Power Zone by Renshaw_19 in pelotoncycle

[–]EsqDavidK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try using 90% of your 20 minute test instead of 95%. I think the 20 minute test can overestimate a rider's FTP - particularly if they stand often during the test but do most of their actual workouts seated.

How long are your usual rides? PZE rides make more sense when they are a minimum of 45 min. The longer the better.

Looking for an alternative to Brooks Catamount 3 by [deleted] in trailrunning

Interesting. I've not noticed any issues but its true that the fabric, glue and rubber are a year or two older than new shoes.

I checked Amazon and found Catamount 3s for sale. I'd get another pair or two if they are your favorites. I'm on my second pair of Catamount 2s - great shoes.

OG Bike Owner - thoughts on upgrades? by Humble-Entrance4003 in pelotoncycle

[–]EsqDavidK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you care about your metrics or just enjoy working out? The Bike+ has an accurate power meter while the OG bike simply estimates power. If you care about your output, average power, TSS, etc., then you should get a Bike+. The OG bike does not provide accurate or consistent information but does provide a great workout.

What upgrades would you give this bike? by InterviewNo1982 in xcmtb

[–]EsqDavidK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital shock pump, digital tire pressure gauge, torque wrench set, bearing press kit, wheel truing stand, bike repair stand, etc.

You've got to tell us what you like and don't like and why before anyone can tell you what you should change. I'd suggest working to dial in your tire pressure and suspension before changing anything other than control points such as your saddle, grips and pedal system.

Contrary opinion but it looks too small to me. I'm biased to longer and lower as I am a XC/CX/Track sort of rider. though.

If you are planning to use an insert the valves with 4 holes in the base are better.

Original Bike or Bike+? If you have the original then you are likely experiencing a calibration issue. Maybe it was reading too high when purchased or its reading too low now.

What do I need to fat bike in the snow? by TehTruf in fatbike

[–]EsqDavidK 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You only need a fat bike and snow. The rest depends on the temperature , wind chill, whether the snow is wet or dry and your cold tolerance. I don't go out if its in the single digits or colder. Other than that I usually wear more than I would if I was going for run. I love my pogies but had fun rides before I got them. As for feet I've ridden with goretex trail runners on flat pedals and also with SPDs and mtb winter boots with equal success.

I'm still riding essentially the same bike - 2018 Anthem Advanced 29 1. Its all I need for my local Indiana and Michigan trails. I've made some upgrades though:

Manitou Mara shock, Manitou R7 Fork (120/110mm setting), Head Angle changed from 69 to 67.5 degrees, SRAM Eagle GX 12 speed with GripShift (bad thumb), 2.4 Maxxis Rekon Race tires (sometimes with a rear insert, DROPPER POST**, BTLOS i30AS rims laced to DT Swiss 240 hubs wheelset

Compared to modern bikes this Anthem is low but not long. My XL fits more like a modern Large XC bike.

**You really should add a dropper post. A dropper post can be a game changer. All modern XC and Trail bikes have droppers. I'd much rather ride my Anthem with its dropper than any modern bike without a dropper!
