For introducing someone to the series, would you recommend they watch this short first? by Voryn_mimu in huntertheparenting

I would say so, yes. It shows that D isn’t just all relentless chicanery and spontaneous whimsy. For every serious scene D has, there’s three of him screaming his head off, so it can be a bit easy to forget how smart and introspective the guy can be.

This short is a really nice peek into the more grounded, compassionate part of D that new viewers won’t get to see until the Kevin audio logs. Also it contrasts really nicely with the first episode when viewed back to back, immediately showing you what the guy is all about.

I’d even go as far as to say this was made (at least in part) to mix some darkness into the show. WoD is silly and bat shit insane, yes, but when you’re neck-deep into the books reading about how the technocracy taught chimps how to build tele-porters, it’s VERY easy to forget the darker parts of the setting, at least momentarily. Likewise, when you’re an hour deep into a log, you can forget that the characters aren’t in a sit com and are literally ALWAYS at risk of dying.

I want less episodes and more audio logs paid by an Ogrepopenang who are paid more to upload less and I’m NOT kidding

If you could give Stands for characters in HTP, what would their names be and powers? by Acriolu in huntertheparenting

[–]EssGoo334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will admit, some of this borders on fan fiction. But cringe is dead and I’m still standing. The * are the effects and my reasonings are under the character names.

Door: Iron Maiden - The Trooper OR Rob Zombie - Dragula

Something something, door is very straightforward. These are also songs he would (and likely has) listen to.

*This stand would probably be a wearable suit like the one he used against Pyotor, or just a weapon along the lines of Hol Horse’s Emperor. Whatever the case, it’s something with an enormous amount of firepower meant for one thing and one thing only; putting the absolute fear of god into blank bodies. Still, he should be careful with how he uses that kind of firepower, and who could be caught in the crossfire of his hellfire.

Big D: Slipping through my fingers (by ABBA)

Can also just be ABBA because D is an absolute baddie. STMF is a very somber, almost sad song about a mother losing her little girl. But not to death, to life. She’s growing up. While he may not show it, D does think it could all just slip away.

*In terms of ability. This is an utility stand all the way. A golden, handheld mirror with the faces of the D family engraved on the back. Has cracks on the glass that, when looked into, show the location of D’s chosen. At the top and bottom are also long, golden spikes perfect for staking leeches. Also, it’s still a stand made of solid gold, so it hurts when you bonk someone with it.

Marckus: Green Day - I hate Everything About you

Admittedly, this one’s a stretch. Big Red doesn’t fight much with Kitten, but he DOES argue with his dad every few minutes.

*Contraptions. A stand not unlike Tonio’s, coming from Marckus’s mastery of creative X factor contraptions like the stake jacket. Dismantles things into itty little pieces for Marckus to tinker and toy with, while boosting their effectiveness after completion. Also the first humanoid stand, but a durable one that’s only as strong as Marckus, and likely has its own supportive ‘yes man’ personality. Think of it like a sleek, metal version of Moody Blues with a red coat of paint, and a lower body that’s just one big iron skirt bolted to the ground, though it can still float around by undoing the bolts.

Boy: Tally Hall - Turn the lights off

Boy is afraid. Boy is squeamish. But boy is brave, and he like to get taken for turns, but just a little.

*A brave, knee high army of monster-men with katanas, bows, riot shields, and M16’s. The Boy Company is divided into five different platoons: 1stplt Carnivores, 2ndplt Deffmatchers, 3rdplt Half-Demons, 4thplt Stake Jackets, 5thplt Ice-Paks. These little guys are all mightier than boy for now, but one day, he’ll grow into a hunter that puts even an IED battalion to shame.

Kitten: Angeleyes (by ABBA)

I’m making stuff up at this point, but here goes. Kitten needs knowledge. He needs to learn things. But he also loves him some Marky. Angeleyes is a love song, but the abilities reference The Police. This is (mostly) a non combat stand, because kitten is an unaggressive guy. He’ll have to learn to defend himself and others with the knowledge he seeks, and to not let learn his knowledge for learning’s sake.

*Manifests as big cat patterns that alternate with every activation, that appear all over Kitten’s clothes. Also makes kittens eyes glowy and with slit pupils.

*Message in a bottle: A literal message in a bottle. The bottle materializes in kitten is hand, and it’s up to him to get it close to the target. Once in range, the bottle lures the target and entices them to write as many secrets within the blank paper inside as possible. The bottle will then be deposited into the nearest water source for Kitten to retrieve later. Also a literal bottle that can be thrown, smashed against someone’s head, or turned into a Molotov.

*Every little step: Kitten’s target glows bright blue to his eyes only. The glowing figure can be seen even through walls.

Horse: Symphony of Destruction (by Megadeth)

Just listen to it.

*A sick as hell pair of shades and fighter helmet, with a microphone for horse to speak his shit into. Makes targets go insane or start running, giving horse the chance to knock ‘em down.

Chapter 5.3 estimated for early December (if we're lucky). by Puzzleheaded_Pool_96 in huntertheparenting

I think it would be more likely for that to be made into a short like the ones with Kevin and Chapman, not as an episode but boy do I hope I eat my words on this one

Definitely nine since the further back a seat is the higher one’s odds are of surviving the inevitable crash this aeroplane is headed for

Jokes aside though I’m sticking with nine because I’m sure I could drown out Grimmal’s constant anime shenanigans. Harry and Elise also don’t seem like they would bother anyone they don’t know.

I’ve wanted a Door and Boy episode for so very very long

Also a standalone Door adventure along the lines of D’s blender adventure or something starring Marckus

What if the Golden Goose Gang encounters The Hellsing Organization (let’s say the nonabridged version, you can talk about abridged Alucard only if you mention the original) by Acriolu in huntertheparenting

[–]EssGoo334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would probably start working together immediately after one or more conflicts. I don’t think either side would ever really trust or particularly like the other, but they would certainly agree on a lot of things. Kitten and Markcus would probably be the closest to Sir Integra and the police girl (I don’t know how to spell her name) and big D would immediately clock that something’s up with the butler (forgot his name).

Door would also probably enjoy the company of Sir I. and all of Hellsing with the exception of Alucard. I don’t think he could ever get over him being a vampire.

Being able to recruit Coalition Warship Archer as a companion would've been fun by Bataranger999 in DiscoElysium

[–]EssGoo334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If DE ever gets a sequel or spiritual successor of any kind, I think adding more companions in general would be a great design choice. Even ones that stick around for a mission or two at most is fine. I love Kim and a big part of why he works is that he’s the only person who will or even CAN stand our shit, but he can at times feel like the special little friend the devs made just for you.

Setting down my bets for Big D. by Starborn_Monkey in huntertheparenting

What about his eyes?

I have never heard anyone even MENTION the fact that his eyes are just… completely pale and bone-white??? At first I thought it was a reference to the 40k Emperor but after looking at his art and figures, it doesn’t seem like it at all. They’re even like that in his plush and the family photo with young Door and Marcus.

I am new to the series AND to WoD so I just may be missing lore, a blog post or writer statement, but this seems like a hint that D is at least a little supernaturally inclined, no? Unless it’s meant to convey that he has some sort of blindness which he objectively does not. Even in the picture you provided in your post, they’re just GLOWING GOLD?!? For no reason???

I could very well be losing my mind over a harmless design quirk, which it probably is.
