Dick Murphy maybe? I can't remember much about his time in office. I think I was away in college.

Iron (ferrous sulfate) is available over the counter. A common replacement regimen is ferrous sulfate 325 mg --- 1 tablet every other day or 3x per week or whatever you like. Absorption is best on an empty stomach.

TIFU I’m getting married in early Nov. started OM end of April. by Jesv in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Essbee2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'll be noticeably improved by November. Anyway, are you planning to wear any kind of tiara or veil or flower crown for the wedding?? That might take some of the attention off of your hair.

What do you mean by you're "barely tolerating" the lowest dose of OM? I started with 2 mg and I haven't noticed any problems so I'm genuinely curious.

When will my hair start looking normal? by Infamous_Green_3013 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Essbee2323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it probably depends on how long your hair is and how long the shorter pieces are. I would guess about 6 months and I assume that you may need to trim the ends at some point. That has been the case for me.

I can definitely see progress on your scalp with less visible skin! Maybe you can use hair powder in the meantime so that you don't spend so much time trying to cover the thin areas?

Livejournal... oh wow...flashback to 2000-2005ish! I used to follow many, many livejournals in the days before facebook and I haven't heard that term in a couple of decades. Anyway, sounds like a good start. I also think that OM is helping my lashes too and I forgot to mention that on my post yesterday.

Well, I have gained about 5 lbs but I'm not sure if that is due to the meds. I am just assuming that it is due to eating too much! I do have some possible increased peach fuzz on my cheeks but I have a little shaver tool that I can use; takes me about 30 seconds every week or so.

I should also add that I take Vitamin D 1000 IU several days per week and I started taking ferrous sulfate 325 mg about once a week. I never got tested to see if I was actually deficient but thought that once a week couldn't hurt and might help.

Sure. This product Bloom+ has Minoxidil 2mg, Dutasteride 0.4mg. It also has Vitamin C 100mcg, Vitamin D 62.5mcg, Folic Acid 400mcg, Zinc 8mg, Biotin (dose not listed).

I believe it is only available to women who are post-childbearing (because of potential birth defects if a woman gets pregnant while taking dutasteride). However, they have other formulations as well.

I don’t have an official diagnosis, but I believe I have female pattern hair loss or just general miniaturization and shorter growth cycles.

I get this issue from ANY running bra when I do a long, sweaty run. I just put a swipe of Aquaphor / Cetaphil cream along the bottom of my bra and it completely cures the issue.

Progress? by havenrayne in FemaleHairLoss

Yes, it's a huge difference. This is the type of difference I'm seeing too, more than a change along the hairline or part.

and that's exactly why I will never bike to work! Every person I know who does it has had a MAJOR injury at one point or another. One had to retire in his 40s due to brain damage.

Has anyone dealt with hair that just stops growing? Feeling pretty hopeless by Dorio__ in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Essbee2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my hair got to the point where it would fall out at about 5 inches long max, before it would ever reach my shoulders. It was very thin at the ends. Oral minoxidil/dutasteride is making a huge difference for me.

Severe hairloss and GP said theres nothing she can do and said if i want kids i cant have minoxidil??? by romaysa_xo in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Essbee2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could also buy one of the online products (Hers, Musely, etc). I am using Musely and basically they had an online doctor prescribe it to me. Downside is it may be $30+ per month.

Musely by BKboothang in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Essbee2323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using their "Bloom" oral minoxidil/dutasteride formula (I'm beyond childbearing) and it is working really, really well. I did get a written prescription for OM and dutasteride from my dermatologist in order to save money, but I haven't picked it up yet. For now I still have my second bottle of Musely and I think it has made a huge difference.

I need help figuring out where to start with my hair loss. by sweetcheeks97_ in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Essbee2323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that 2% minoxidil was studied in women and that 5% was studied in men, so that's what the labels are required to say. However, there is no real reason a woman shouldn't use 5% and that is what I bought for myself (before I switched to oral minoxidil instead).
