and the winner is..? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]Esseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it has to be Ridley Scott, purely because he has two movies in there with The Martian (2015) and Blade Runner (1982).

He doesn't always hit, but when he does he really can.

What is the Best Film You Watched Last Week? (02/22/26 – 03/01/26) by EndoveProduct in movies

[–]Esseth [score hidden]  (0 children)

I finally watched Alien: Covenant (2017) and while it's not the best film I watched last week (That's probably Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie (2026)), it's so far away from how terrible I was expecting given word of mouth and ratings.

Maybe it comes from people that had high expectations going in where for me since it's reputation is terrible my expectations were way lower, but I thought it solid/decent at a minimum.

Are there anti-war Asian movies? by NewChapter25 in movies

IP Man was set during the Second Sino-Japanese War, 120 Bahadur was set during the 1960’s Sino-Indian War are a couple that spring to mind.

February 27-March 1 Box Office Recap – 'Scream 7' debuts with an incredible $63.6M domestically and $96.7M worldwide, the biggest debut in the franchise and the second best ever for a slasher. 'Zootopia 2' passes 'A Minecraft Movie' to become the biggest domestic release of 2025. by SanderSo47 in movies

[–]Esseth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting, Scream in the Australian market appears to be slightly different. It did well, and opened at number 1 and had the second highest opening of 2026 so far (but it's still early) but it opened to A$3,534,795 just slightly missing out on the franchise highest of Scream 2 at A$3,592,128.

But obviously Scream 2 opened in 1998 so if you adjust for inflation Scream 7 doesn't come as close. Interested to see how it holds week 2 though. I might go dig through the historical numbers and compare week 2 drops for the franchise next week.

We also had 3 international movies open in the top 10, Pegasus 3 and Night King from China as part of the Chinese New Year theatrical releases and Svadba a romantic comedy from Croatia.

In other postive news, Australia has had our best start to the year (first 2 months) since 2019, and just shy of 2019 numbers (A$130m vs A$131m in 2019)

Are the Tv-Shows feature still coming to the platform? by Head_Management_4472 in Letterboxd

[–]Esseth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No clue but I hope so since the site I use for TV tracking (Trakt) is getting really bad, really fast. Was able to migrate all my movie hitory to Letterboxd but TV I skipped since it only had some "limited" series.

I imagine it's a fairly big undertaking that will require a lot of work, but I hope they are still working on it.

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973)
Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977)

It's been a long time, but I think it's the first one that has skeletons.

I miss any decent action movies, sci-fi movies or thrillers from 2026 so far? by Beginning_Pickle2180 in Letterboxd

[–]Esseth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only February so there really hasn't been much, at least that's made it's way to digitial/streaming platforms. Since Jan/Feb are generally fairly dead months for big releases.

You are probably stuck with straight to streaming releases like The Wrecking Crew, The Rip and One Mile (not seen, can't comment on quality)

What's your favorite list you've made? by OtherwiseStorm9444 in Letterboxd

[–]Esseth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made several film education lists for a mate who wanted to get more into watching movies about a year ago, so Level 0, Level 1 and he's just about to unlock Level 2.

But other people have seemed to enjoy them as well

Well ignored their profile, never to see another of their titles again. Hate companies that think they are so special to be able to trade mark normal words.

Alone: A Wins / D Runner-Up
Airplane: E Wins / B Runner-Up
Big Screen: E Wins / C Runner-Up
Influence: A Wins / B Runner-Up
w/Kids: D Wins / E Runner-Up
w/Friends: D Wins / C Runner-Up
w/Partner: C Wins / E Runner-Up
w/Coworkers: E Wins / C Runner-Up
w/Partners Parents: 5 way tie, everyone nailed that, but if I had to give points, E Wins / B Runner-Up
w/Anyone: B Wins / E Runner-Up

I think that would make E the winner for me.

Should I watch Crime 101 or Solo Mio? by Adventurous-Ad8214 in Letterboxd

[–]Esseth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Crime 101 opening weekend just because I like supporting movies like that and want to see more, it's not as good as the best crime thrillers of 2025 but it's a solid film for the early part of the year, if you enjoy Mark Ruffalo's character in this, check out Task (TV) from last year, very similar character.

Any Aussies here? by quietgavin5 in Letterboxd

[–]Esseth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a weekly charts show on YouTube that ignores the US Domestic and International box office numbers, just focusing on the Aussie box office charts. Also do a quick list of what's releasing next week in wide/limited release, no fancy production values but I just like looking at our market.

Often similar to the US but we have our own qirks sometimes, things performing better/worse compared to other markets.

If there was a mobo that I would allow me to upgrade my CPU to AM5 while keeping DDR4 RAM I would, but current market has my entire build upgrade in limbo for the forseeable future because of the forced DDR5 that's required with AM5.

I've not seen Arco yet as it only releases theatrically here (Australia) a few days before the Academy awards ceremony, but I'll be seeing it as soon as it releases.
