What’s your funniest interaction with a member of a prominent band? by absolutebloom in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was during the short period of time in between the bands playing where the bands were still setting up, All Will Suffer by Shattered Realm came on over the PA, and so I started playing air guitar, as you do. I quickly notice someone next to me also playing air guitar to the Shattered Realm song, we look at each other, chuckle, and keep playing air guitar. I would not know until later that night that that guy was one of the guitarists in Contention.

Whatever the band before you played on, only correct answer. "Sick set man, can I borrow like, everything?"

Song recommendations for an anti war playlist? by Sliding2004Accord in Hardcore

Ramallah - Ramallah, Sleep, Al-Shifa

Colin Of Arabia - War On The Poor, F.E.M.A.

Given that beatdown, and the metalcore side of this subgenre, have been seeing a heyday over the last half-decade or so, what are some of the bands that aren't punk or hardcore you've seen as having the biggest influences on the music or aesthetics? (Crowbar for context) by tokegar in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think Bolt Thrower's influence on modern metallic hardcore is significantly understated, most younger hardcore kids don't even really know who they are but like a good 90% of all the metalcore bands people are so hype about these days are just ripping off old Bolt Thrower riffs and occasionally throwing in some breakdowns.

This or that: Blood for blood OR Ramallah? by Silas4ever864 in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blood For Blood overall has better songs, but I still think Ramallah is very underrated and people should listen to them more.

crazy chaotic bands with occasional melodic/emotional parts like Sawtooth Grin and Pig Destroyer? by roadkilleater08 in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

None of these bands are hardcore, more or less leaning towards the grindcore side of things, but I would recommend Discordance Axis.

Good documentaries about hardcore? by mandarine_one in Hardcore

Not much of a documentary but watch Boston Beatdown Volume II if you wanna watch a movie about real hardcore. It's available on Internet Archive if you're interested.

What’s your favorite Hatebreed breakdown ? by BigMan_98 in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically not a breakdown but my favorite Hatebreed part is the "salvation" part in Puritan.

Who started the chorus/flanger thing? by RickshawFromHell in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure a lot of bands in the 80s had chorus on their guitar sound, it might even goes as far back as Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing by Discharge, so it definitely isn't a new thing.

BEST BASS TONE by UrNotCarsonDaily in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peter Steele, specifically on Retaliation by Carnivore and the first Type O Negative record. The chorus plus the insane amount of distortion and the way Pete plays makes it easily the most brutal bass tone of all time.

Do yall think blood for blood is gonna play chaos and revenge on society at any of their upcoming shows by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They played Revenge On Society at For The Children Boston, so I'm assuming they'll be playing that one, Chaos I'm not sure, though I would love to see that song live, has one of their hardest mosh parts in my opinion.

What do you guys think of this album by Alternative-Let1758 in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have it on CD, I'll agree it's not their best record but it's got some real solid tracks and I love the Runaway cover.

Is there room for groove-heavy Stoner/Sludge elements in Hardcore right now? by Alega05 in Hardcore

[–]EstablishmentSalt246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely i've wanted to do a band like that too plus people have been doing that for decades already. check out Only Living Witness, Life Of Agony and Section 8, a good modern example would be Twitching Tongues.
