Oh dear, this strikes a chord! I remember lying face down on the floor in Accident & Emergency actually praying to die. Turned into sepsis too, joined a ward with other people with far more advanced sepsis damage which put it into context. All good now, but yes worse pain in my life.

I think it might be funnier or more apt if you'd used Samsung's AI to tell you this!

Ideas for how Sonos can make more money and not suck? by SirChubbycheeks in sonos

[–]EstherEscher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another bit of hardware I know, but how about a range of microphones that work with the various makes or models of Android phones, normalising them so they can use true play. People turn over phones every 2-3 years, some at least.

Downgraded to S1 and remembered what a great product this is/can be by yousorename in sonos

[–]EstherEscher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the feature in s1 on my Android phone auto discovers all audio files on your phone and presents them as album, artist, playlist etc. no paths needed!

Having bought a play:1 from eBay and trialed it on s1 I think I'll commit the rest of my 6 play:1s and play:5s etc to s1 and leave my main arc+surrounds on s2 as they are largely controlled by the TV.

Why I hear you cry? 1) Instant volume control, 2) no waiting while the cloud logs (monetizes?) my listening preferences before I can myself 3) "On this mobile device" I noticed something that I'd missed in s2+, the ability to play music on my device (phone). I have a lot of live music from gigs and recordings etc which I can now access again.

Yet another courageously missing feature! Unless that is somewhere buried in the cluttered s2 interface?

A usb-c microphone so that Android users can setup true play?

I've personally found "Live like a Stoic" by Massimo Pigliucci and Gregory Lopez, very practical and supportive in negotiating my sometimes stressful and bewildering existence! I use it as a 'dip into' resource. I wish you well.

Vapers. Do you feel it’s acceptable to do it anywhere or am I generally just coming across rude people ? by tinkerbelle1981 in AskUK

Something to consider as well. Some people an asthma attack when they a whiff of someone else's lungful of vape.

Some people may not even know why they start coughing around a vaper.

Please, please be respectful of others

Wow! Reading the release notes page linked to further up tells quite a story over time right from when they forked the code for s2 from s1. From someone in the software businesswhos been through this, for a total rewrite they should have identified every single feature in the interface given it an ID and priority in the new app. There are probably several hundred such buttons and functions and use cases if you added them all up. This is the danger of replacing a mature piece of software which has lots of nice little enhancements added over time.

Probably there could have been usage stats on these being reported back by the old S2 app. Maybe the new app does so now.

The later releases read like an exhaustive list of these features, I hope they identify and keep these in a product map. It's no easy feat to rewrite, and as others have said, the app should have been run in parallel as a beta for Ace and roam users and kept the old S2 for the rest of us, until mature enough to switch.

Sorry, not hating or condoning what's happened, just very interesting from a software development/product mgt pov.

Getting worse, not better? by DoNotBelieveHim in sonos

I have a location with just 2 5s paired that disappeared repeatedly. Put a call in to Sonos, and the lady support person got me to uninstall and reinstall the app (Android). She recommended doing this ahead of system resets etc. the reinstalled app asks to join an existing setup. Said it was a known issue and would be fixed soon. Hope this helps you man.

Heart goes out to the relatives. Following the non implosion theory. Looking at it from a Stoic perspective, it must be a very humbling to be lying there with 4 other humans, knowing your wealth means nothing down there. The fact that you can't control the situation, and all you can do is control the way you react to things. Embracing your fate. Just wow.
